    I'm not studying anthropology as my major but I have huge passion for this field, and I think the way you present the topic is very comprehensive and interesting. Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us 🙏

    A super undervalued field in my opinion. In my anthro undergrad there was so little emphasis on linguistics, I'm finding myself building a short course of self study to fill in the gaps. Thanks for this. :)

    With this video I was thinking:
    My First language is spanish and i'm still learning english. I've noticed that some words or expressions are uniques and doesn't have a traslation in others languages. Some words only work in specif place and how the people use them.
    Idk. I just love your videos :)

      Hello! And yes this is a wonderful observation. I took spanish for many years and noticed the same thing. Thank you so much for the support-means a ton!

    How can we say that all languages are created equal? Correct me if I am wrong, in langage x because of weather conditions there exist 20 words for snow while in language y there exist 20 words for camel.

    4:44 Kinda... think about in terms of productivity or scientific classification where new models and diversity were necessary cause a single name or method wasnt doing the work. There's a tribe who only have the colors dark, red, light and green, you have some work to do guys.

    • @AliviaBrown
      @AliviaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Katie! First of all, I think it is incredible that you are getting a jump start on what you may want to major in during college. When I started I had no idea... I think my biggest suggestion is to just start taking classes and see how you feel about them and ask yourself if the topics are something you would enjoy doing down the line. I know it's simple, but I really think it's a great strategy. Good luck!

    What are the importance of linguistic anthropology

    • @AliviaBrown
      @AliviaBrown  Před rokem +2

      Linguistic anthropology is important for so many reasons but one that comes to mind is it allows us to understand how we use language and the power language can have. Language is how we communicate and position ourselves within a community and/or culture. Understanding it’s use and power is incredibly important!

    Hey random question but I came across a lecture that was listed as happening at UCLA in 2020. It was about finding indigenous people in Cuba and I'm wondering did people watch it in your class?
