Thank god for Americans choosing the cylinder de-activation methods to save fuel. Its a much better system than all the garbage electric supercars with their hybrid technology and go-fast bits to save fuel, and this thing does 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Bless America for creating true drivers cars and staying true to simplicity. We like emotional and involved driving, along with the car being as mechanical as possible, which are modern muscle cars. Oh and I don't understand why anyone would want an auto or a semi-auto (yes you dual clutch) with a proper sportscar. Fast lap times are for paid racing drivers. Speaking of paid racing drivers, or those that used to be, Brian I cannot express how beautiful your videos and reviews in general are. I really hope to see this channel grow, and of course, Its a Canadian car channel :) God bless !!

Watch my PDR lap, it's entirely in auto mode. On occasion I'm still getting paid, so I'm happy to go with that. I'd love to be a full time pro, but that'll have to be another lifetime.
Honestly at this point I am convinced a lot of the population should just stop pretending they can drive manual and just buy an auto/PDK. I am horrified by the poor habits and skill sets most manual drivers seem to have.
still dont get why some people dont think the z06 is a supercar... as you mentioned performance wise its there and not to mention the styling, price, and exclusivity is much higher then say any camaro, M3, 370z, ect.
Thanks for showing some actual street driveing. Lots of vids just on the track is cool and all, but seeing as how most of the time its gonna be on the street, its nice to see a real world scenario.

Brian Makse I like the C7's styling better than the C6. I think it looks more exotic and more appealing, overall. There's really nothing wrong with the new taillights in my view, other than the fact that I find the circular ones on the C6 better suited the old car's rear design. I didn't like the looks of the base C6 Corvette that much (although I find that the styling improved with the wider Z06 and ZR1 versions). But, Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear still did not like the ZR1's styling. To the most part the issue that bothered me with the design of the C6 generation Corvette is the absence of the rear 3/4 window. I think this thew off the design. It's a matter of personal preference or taste, I surmise! As the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Thanks for your reply.
tmat04 You got it. Styling is seriously subjective for a wide variety of reasons. I would argue that Clarkson isn't an arbiter of automotive design. I mean, he has a big audience just for all of the yelling and skids that he does. What is impressive is the C7's ability to swallow cargo. We had two camera bags and all of our rigging in the Z06, and didn't need a support car for our shoot.
Two great reviews - thanks! I love the front of the car, looks great in the dark colour. I'm not sold on the squarish rear. Would you say the competition package (or whatever the name is) makes it too harsh for public roads (after all, it is where most cars will spend their time)?

Depends on what you prefer, I suppose. The Z06 is massively impressive, but I just drove the GT-R Nismo again and that thing is pretty quick and very competent, but lots of electronics between you and the tires.
I have met plenty of people who won't even consider a single American car xD. And for the most part I even agree, but I still try to stay open minded when it comes to several American sports/sporty cars. And you would either have to be very biased or stupid to not consider a C7 corvette of any trim level if you are in market for a sports car between 70-100k dollars.

Thanks Brandon. This one is very, very cool. Agree with you on all points. It's a brilliant $100k supercar, but saddled with some cheap plastic bits. Still, it's light years ahead of the C6. As for the mid engined car, I think that's a serious rumour and I'm not buying it. Sometimes I'll hear rumours from reliable sources, but I haven't heard anything about a mid-engined car from GM, so right now I'm saying it's just a rumour.
I think we have access to it, but it will have to wait until its summer. I cant see that thing working well if at all in the snow assuming Brian would even attempt to drive it in sub zero conditions.

I liked both generations styling, but the overall styling of the C7 just tops the cake. Front quarter shots of this car just look so good. And having seen a few in person at car meets now. Pictures/video just don't do it justice.
Wow! GM out did themselves with this Z06! I was looking at a 911 Turbo S but I think I will kill 2 birds with one stone. I'll get the Z06 for myself and the Cadillac ATS V for my wife! I think that's a savings of 25k from buying the 911!

I wonder if Ford are setting the trend with the new Mustang being sold in Europe right hand side and here in the UK we may see a Vette right hand side drive? It certainly seems like the Vette is reaching the standards people have come to expect in Europe.
+Second Chance I think your assumption may be correct. GM Holden's head CEO in Australia has announced that since the demise of manufacturing of the Holden Commodore V8 by year end of 2017, they are in talks with GM Chevrolet to possibly supply a replacement "HALO" V8 performance car in the form of a RHD C7 Corvette (both the Stingray and the ZO6). If that is to be believed, we can expect a RHD Corvette sometime in 2018. I'm sure if it arrives on our shores here just like the Ford Mustang has started to arrive, England will surely be on the cards as well.
They've done over 900 laps at the 'ring with this car. First, 'ring times are irrelevant. Too many variables for it to be a measure of accurate performance. Second, in those 900+ laps, I'm guessing they didn't get near the time of the GT-R Nismo that Nissan says the car did.
I read that Jim Mero, GM's engineer hotshoe, wrecked the Z06 he was piloting on his record attempt at the 'ring. There are images of the wreck that show Mero covering up the car immediately after it happened. It was a yellow Z06 w/ Z07 and manual trans. Front end was totally wiped out. I believe that might be the true reason GM never released an official lap time. Could be wrong but seems plausible. GM has been pretty vocal about their Nurburgring lap times in the past so it was odd they didn't release a lap time for the '15 Z06.
G8GTJav The thing with the 'ring is that weather is absolutely critical for a lap time, so the stars, moon, solar system, mother nature, all have to be aligned so that conditions are ideal. With the size of the Nordschliefe, you can have all sorts of weather at different parts of the circuit at the same time.
Brian Makse Very true, weather definitely plays a role at the 'ring. Even so, GM still released the time for the Z/28 despite track conditions being very damp at one section that day. Just seems odd no track time released for the new Z06. They broke tradition.
I would like to see how this Z06 07 compares to the Mclaren 650s, ferrari 458 speciale and Porsche 911 turbo S. These vehicles are the standard in all world supercars.
its a ECU issue that cuts power during the engine brake in period. not to mention the gearing is more for track work and fuel economy. though in a 1/4 mile run, 0-60, lap times, and 60-0 braking the Z06 is faster then the viper. now in terms of top speed and which can reach it faster the viper has the edge on that. just depends what your definition of fast is... lap times, 0-60, 1/4 mile, lateral G, engine out put numbers... or roll performance and top speed.
They are both great cars and are basically a dying breed of epic cars that give drivers that emotional and mechanical connection. Lets not question laptimes and 0-60 numbers, I say keep buying these wonderful sportscars.
Brian Makse its been happening to the guys over at TheBayAreaRacing and thatracingchannel they buy brand new C7 Z06's and push them to 180+ in street racing matches. with under 2k miles on the cars.

Would you say that this car can be used as a daily? Not that one would usually use one as a daily. But not sure if its too brutal or would be worth just buying a brand new c7 or wait a few years and buy a used z06
Robert Garcia I would think it would be fine as a daily so long as you don't option the extra Z07 aero (I think its called that). Its the additional front splitter and extra tall rear lip. The trunk is massive and the adjustable dampers are bloody good.
Got a lease with Lincoln for another year.... this will be my next car... Zetto 06-07 package wide body. But I don't know if it's a comfortable fit... I'm 6'-4" tall 250lbs??? Does it have room?

Kind of funny how he says he's in the Z07 package but showing the stage 1 package when the car is shown on the track. Then he goes from driving a suede steering wheel to a leather one (5:11) then suede right after then back to a leather (5:35). But supposedly still on the track in the Z07 package. Hmmmm???? The first Z06 with the tan seats is a stage 2 (No wicker bill shown), smaller front splitter, plus also it only has the base Z06 rotors and it looked to be just the Michellin super sport tires. Video disection; CHECK.
Jason Gallegos Its a launch event. They have us driving a different car every 8 or so minutes on track and every hour on road you change. That way we are able to test out the different option packs and transmissions in all environments. We are not actively trying to lie to our audience, it just happens to be the car we are in when filming our in-car segments.

In fact we worked so hard to get great footage that we got yelled at by GM (deservedly so). Get outside and make your own Z06 video that's better than ours.

+Oscar Murillo no, I wouldn't call it unfinished and in fact I don't put much stock into anything Motor Trend has to say. None of their editors can drive so they have to hire retired racing drivers to do their testing for them. Strange. That said, there's nothing wrong with the Corvette's handling. High limits and great feedback from the chassis, steering and brakes. I don't under how somebody could complain about it, except perhaps if they don't know what they're talking about. The Viper ACR is a downright hypercar lap time killer. That thing is literally bonkers. I love it. Completely different beast than the Corvette and needs a skilled and confident driver to get 100% out of it.

I use to loath vetts in my youth, but this new Z06 C7 had completely won me over. They pretty much fixed the few very small complaints I had about the normal stingray C7 with this.

This one is a proper supercar. And a bargain one at that.

The Z07 package is for the 10% or whatever owners who track their cars. Sport Cups aren't fun on the street in the wet, bit in the dry, they're magic.

I'll take this car in manual transmission over a GTR. GTR may or not be faster but I feel like the C7 Z06 is more of a driver's car.

They keep the paddles there as the way to engage the active rev matching downshift feature. Removing them would be the first mod I would do.

I wonder if Ford are setting the trend with the new Mustang being sold in Europe right hand side and here in the UK we may see a Vette right hand side drive?
It certainly seems like the Vette is reaching the standards people have come to expect in Europe.
+Second Chance I think your assumption may be correct. GM Holden's head CEO in Australia has announced that since the demise of manufacturing of the Holden Commodore V8 by year end of 2017, they are in talks with GM Chevrolet to possibly supply a replacement "HALO" V8 performance car in the form of a RHD C7 Corvette (both the Stingray and the ZO6). If that is to be believed, we can expect a RHD Corvette sometime in 2018. I'm sure if it arrives on our shores here just like the Ford Mustang has started to arrive, England will surely be on the cards as well.

Awesome car, will someone please get this amazing super car on the Nurburgring track. I want to see some track times.
They've done over 900 laps at the 'ring with this car. First, 'ring times are irrelevant. Too many variables for it to be a measure of accurate performance. Second, in those 900+ laps, I'm guessing they didn't get near the time of the GT-R Nismo that Nissan says the car did.
I read that Jim Mero, GM's engineer hotshoe, wrecked the Z06 he was piloting on his record attempt at the 'ring. There are images of the wreck that show Mero covering up the car immediately after it happened. It was a yellow Z06 w/ Z07 and manual trans. Front end was totally wiped out. I believe that might be the true reason GM never released an official lap time. Could be wrong but seems plausible. GM has been pretty vocal about their Nurburgring lap times in the past so it was odd they didn't release a lap time for the '15 Z06.
G8GTJav The thing with the 'ring is that weather is absolutely critical for a lap time, so the stars, moon, solar system, mother nature, all have to be aligned so that conditions are ideal. With the size of the Nordschliefe, you can have all sorts of weather at different parts of the circuit at the same time.
Brian Makse Very true, weather definitely plays a role at the 'ring. Even so, GM still released the time for the Z/28 despite track conditions being very damp at one section that day. Just seems odd no track time released for the new Z06. They broke tradition.
G8GTJav Exactly. Mero's also a bit of an undisciplined shuffle-steerer, which probably doesn't help, despite his knowledge of the 'ring.
I would like to see how this Z06 07 compares to the Mclaren 650s, ferrari 458 speciale and Porsche 911 turbo S. These vehicles are the standard in all world supercars.
Turbo S is more of a hyper quick GT car. We need to wait for the 911 991 GT3 RS.
Which is faster in straight line, the SRT Viper or Corvette Z06? Cuz many people says the corvette looses power when you drive it faster.....
its a ECU issue that cuts power during the engine brake in period. not to mention the gearing is more for track work and fuel economy. though in a 1/4 mile run, 0-60, lap times, and 60-0 braking the Z06 is faster then the viper.
now in terms of top speed and which can reach it faster the viper has the edge on that.
just depends what your definition of fast is... lap times, 0-60, 1/4 mile, lateral G, engine out put numbers...
or roll performance and top speed.
They are both great cars and are basically a dying breed of epic cars that give drivers that emotional and mechanical connection. Lets not question laptimes and 0-60 numbers, I say keep buying these wonderful sportscars.
Who says it loses power? It didn't for me and I was hustling those cars.
Brian Makse its been happening to the guys over at TheBayAreaRacing and thatracingchannel they buy brand new C7 Z06's and push them to 180+ in street racing matches. with under 2k miles on the cars.

Would you say that this car can be used as a daily? Not that one would usually use one as a daily. But not sure if its too brutal or would be worth just buying a brand new c7 or wait a few years and buy a used z06
Robert Garcia I would think it would be fine as a daily so long as you don't option the extra Z07 aero (I think its called that). Its the additional front splitter and extra tall rear lip. The trunk is massive and the adjustable dampers are bloody good.

Got a lease with Lincoln for another year.... this will be my next car... Zetto 06-07 package wide body. But I don't know if it's a comfortable fit... I'm 6'-4" tall 250lbs??? Does it have room?

Kind of funny how he says he's in the Z07 package but showing the stage 1 package when the car is shown on the track. Then he goes from driving a suede steering wheel to a leather one (5:11) then suede right after then back to a leather (5:35). But supposedly still on the track in the Z07 package. Hmmmm???? The first Z06 with the tan seats is a stage 2 (No wicker bill shown), smaller front splitter, plus also it only has the base Z06 rotors and it looked to be just the Michellin super sport tires. Video disection; CHECK.
Jason Gallegos Its a launch event. They have us driving a different car every 8 or so minutes on track and every hour on road you change. That way we are able to test out the different option packs and transmissions in all environments. We are not actively trying to lie to our audience, it just happens to be the car we are in when filming our in-car segments.

Dude. We were graciously invited to the Z06 launch event. We busted our asses to put together a killer video. In fact we worked so hard to get great footage that we got yelled at by GM (deservedly so). The point is that we put together the best possible video that we can make for our viewers to enjoy without any kind of deception - and you think that this detail spotting is some kind of win? Get outside and make your own Z06 video that's better than ours.
how is the build quality fit and finish? compared to its rivals like the gtr? which would you choose?

+Oscar Murillo no, I wouldn't call it unfinished and in fact I don't put much stock into anything Motor Trend has to say. None of their editors can drive so they have to hire retired racing drivers to do their testing for them. Strange.
That said, there's nothing wrong with the Corvette's handling. High limits and great feedback from the chassis, steering and brakes. I don't under how somebody could complain about it, except perhaps if they don't know what they're talking about.
The Viper ACR is a downright hypercar lap time killer. That thing is literally bonkers. I love it. Completely different beast than the Corvette and needs a skilled and confident driver to get 100% out of it.

I use to loath vetts in my youth, but this new Z06 C7 had completely won me over. They pretty much fixed the few very small complaints I had about the normal stingray C7 with this.

G8GTJav I am not a fan of black, but I will agree its menacing at every angle. I would take it in a dark silver metallic like the one we had in the video.
