  • Crispy, crunchy breadcrumbs that are oil-free, grain-free, gluten-free, vegan, and plant-based. This is not a joke. This is exactly what you get when you make Chickpea Crumbs! It may seem weird to make breadcrumbs out of a can of chickpeas, but once you've tried them, you'll be a believer like me!

    How long did you leave the crumbs in the second time you put them in the oven? And how long did you let them sit in the oven after you turned it off?

    You actually don't need to toss the aquafaba if you're not using it right away. You can freeze it in an ice cube tray.

    Tinned chickpeas, food process to coarse texture, oven 325oF for 15 minutes, pulse again, oven again. But if you need a lesson on how to open a can, watch the video.

    Do you have a video on how you made the onion rings with the chickpea crumbs?

    I made a casserole this weekend with a chickpea topping. The chickpeas ended up kind of mushy and a weird waxy texture. I’m going to make these chickpea crumbs to put on top next time. Thanks for the video.

    Did you know that Aquafaba can be beaten like egg whites to make meringue because of the protein content, just FYI

    how crazy... I've been using the can opener wrong all my life?! LOL I will definitely practice opening the can the way you showed. Thanks for the recipe/method... do you rinse off the chickpeas or just leave the aquafaba on them?

    • @PassthePlants
      @PassthePlants  Před 5 lety

      I just leave the aquafaba on them, it doesn't hurt anything, and saves me a rinse. :) For the record, I'm on the fence about which way to use the can opener. Both methods have pluses and minuses for me. :)

    The canned are pre cooked right? And soaked from dried are raw still.

    • @PassthePlants
      @PassthePlants  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes, that's correct. But soaked from dried will still end up cooked in the end. :)

    Does the aquafaba not give you bad gas like other bean liquids?

    • @PassthePlants
      @PassthePlants  Před 5 lety +1

      I haven't experienced that, but everyone has different reactions. If you're not able to tolerate aquafaba, plant milk or water with ground flax seed will work out great!

  • @philipspencer3672

    If you're using the crumb to coat other foods like you would with panko how do you get it to stick to the food without using flour and egg which is traditionally used when coating food with panko?

    • @PassthePlants
      @PassthePlants  Před 5 lety +1

      Good question! I use either flour or cornstarch for the dry coating, then dip into a mixture of water/ground flax seed for the "egg", and the either repeat that to make it extra coated, or dip into the chickpea crumbs. It works great!

    😆 at the can opening hack. Maybe it's an American thing your only figuring how to open the can correctly.
