I can see it's a labor of love when you are working on this stuff. it can be frustrating, but rewarding when you get them going. every one you fix is one that does not end up in the landfill.
Ahhh I love the thought of loading a tape and playing with the motorised panel on these. And watching the vu meters bounce. I don’t want to actually use one, however. For the reasons you’ve always outlined about tape, obviously!!
Get anything you want to keep off tape. You have been warned. They are trying to get all the original master tapes of reboot transfered and are having one hell of a time finding a working d1 machine. So far 3 were shipped from Germany which cost 15000 with shipping and none work.
Thanks Dave. That Mech sure looked like a Grossly over engineered Kit till You showed it was for 2 Tape Sizes. And even lucky to find the broken piece still in the Machine..
i just made a new 24 month electrical contract of 8,99cnt/kWh, fixed price for 2 years. That does not include the additional 2,60cnt/kWh that the grid/transfer company charges, so total price including taxes is 11,60cnt/kWh. In Finland all comsumer prices are always labelled with tax.
Kudo's for finding the Transport error on this one. I have the same machine and had a similar fault with the analog video, not showing the Tuner part. Also the Power Supply gave me a hard Time fixing it. Sadly my Firewire output is broken. This goes straight into a big IC on the digital board so no easy fix there.. Waiting to see Part2 now.!
I took a second look and will have to order a bunch of parts. As long as the firewire output works I am happy. It also records from analog. That part works.
The control s is similar to control l or lanc.. supports time code for accurate editing. Lanc also supported rc time code but it just controlled the tape transport where as s could send other commands for edit control. I never used it myself since I had moved to non linear but it would allow the remote control of the deck by computer for automated capture.
Dv, dvcam and digital 8 all use 4:1:1 color space. So 1/4 resolution on chroma. My betacam sx is 4:2:2 so double the color in each the red and blue. Digibeta, was 4:4:4.
I recently got a DSR-50 portable deck for $60 on eBay and it works great! It even has low hours which I found shocking because it had a lot of wear on it. I did notice it does take a few seconds to load up a tape and unload, should I apply some new silicone grease on the mech?
I couldn't do that. Go without heat or air conditioning for any length of time without being miserable. I have window units for A/C. I could probably do without the water heater for a period of time, and possibly the range and just eat cold foods. Interesting VTR!
I have central air. When the rates are up between 4 and 9 its set for 77f when it is the normal rate it is set for 74 and at 11 pm it drops to 71 to make sleeping easier. I have a separate wall unit in my office that I kick on for s few minutes when I am working in there editing as the computer and monitor throw a fair bit of heat. Same goes for the one in the shop. I'll run it when the rates are lower but come 4pm I will be done working. Same goes for in winter when I need heat. I will be done for the day by 4pm and off will go the heat.
A really good job on this repair. I was wondering if you could help me with an issue. I have a sony Hi8 camcorder CCD-TR918E that only seems to play tapes correctly in Video8. On pause Hi8 shows crystal clear and there's picture in fastforward etc. But for just regular playing it seems like it goe out of sync after a few seconds and then loses the signal. Video8 plays perfectly. I've tried reseating connectors and cleaning the head. Any advice? Could it be the camcorder is out of alignment enough to affect Hi8 recordings but still good enough to play video8? Although, it has the same issue playing back it owns Hi8 recordings. Many thanks inadvance. I've watched your videos for several years.
Hi8 requires much higher frequencies. When heads wear the high frequencies are the first to go. Most likely the heads are worn. Could be a circuitry failure but my bet is worn heads. Same goes for svhs. They will play a regular tape but not a svhs.
@@12voltvids Suppose the chances to repair a circuit issue are silm to non. It didnt look as thought it had much use. I have had sucess transplanting tape heads from other models, so may try that. Although, its a big job.
Hey Dave. So I have a small problem I wanted to run by you. While disassembling an old top-loader Betamax, I discovered that the cassette basket won't stay down in the locked position. I push it all the way down and it sounds like it's catching but as soon as I lift my hand it just pops right back up. Do you have any idea what's causing this?

You’re the best troubleshooter I’ve found on CZcams hands down 👍🏻

This one kept me in the tip of my chair !! Good Job Dave!!
It kept mr teetering on my chair too. 😂
Perseverance will always be rewarded, and we were rewarded !
There are some things I own where I will spend much time. Others like an old vhs or cassette deck I won't.
THIS IS THE GREAT DV/MINI DV VCR ..
Yup now to fix the analog video.
Thanks Dave.

That’s a really nice machine!
It sure is!
Yeah, fantastic deal especially when people are trying to rip people off on eBay for outrageous prices on these machines.
I paid what it was worth. 50 bucks. Next to get the analog output working.
That’s cool that it is one channel leaves the other channel open for audio like music
Has 4 audio channels if you use 12 bit 32khz mode.
That was great about Sony’s S connecter

GREATE GREAT GREAT JOB.
I think so.
Yeah, I think I noticed to dropout as well and those damn reds they sure bleed 🤣

Got one of these for $6.99 works great love the controller the drawer is a little fussy
I'd buy for 6.99
@@12voltvids I know right? I really want the DV one with the small screen built in it's a DSR model don't recall the number.

Could be a stuck or broken catch.
I own the same machine
I looked at the video board. Ugly. Needs about 100 caps on it. I put it back together. Maybe some day.
How old is that machine?
I'm going to guess 20 or so. My hdv deck is getting on too.
Can’t stand motorized doors, especially when the motor goes🤣
Ya but the look so cool.
bloody Sony and their not so life long plastic mechanisms and that's with anything they made
