- In this video I go through how to change the oil on a 2021 F150 2.7 liter ecoboost. I have 6000 miles and my Oil life on the computer is around 38%. This process is pretty much identical to my older 2017 F150 2.7 liter ecoboost and should be the same process for 2015 through 2021 F150s with this engine. Below are the tools/supplies I used in this video.
Oil Filter: FL 2062-A (o-rings come with this and are better than the pink originals)
Oil: 6 qtz Motorcraft 5W-30 (took all 6 qtz to get in hatch marks)
Oil drain pan
8mm Socket
1 1/16 or 27 MM Socket
Black gloves
Pick for the o-rings (harbor freight)
Funnel
Rags
Total cost for oil and filters was $55 from the dealer, but Walmart will have these for cheaper. - Zábava
Gave you a thumbs up for draining the oil without making a mess. I installed the Ronin drain plug on my Mustang GT 5.0 with its plastic oil pan.
Fantastic video! Very informative and I like that you made sure to include the small steps too (ie how to open the hood, reset the oil life etc)
Great Tip on pulling the drain plug out slowly Thanks!
Nice video Dan! Excellent instructions thanks.
Just watched your video and subscribed. Enjoyed how you came across with everything!! I have a 21 f150 too.
Great video! Thanks for the thorough tutorial.
Also did the Ronin on my 2020 2.7 Ecoboost.Big improvement over the plastic plug
Turbos need oil and filters change 3k to 4k miles. According to my technical high school auto instructors. 7k to 10k will wear the engine out early.
Thank you for the video Sr.
Good job !! 💪🏻💪🏻
Very helpful, thanks!
Thanks a lot man. Great video!
You bet! Thanks for the comment and have an awesome day!
Thanks Dan!!!
Thank you sir ❤️
Hello Dan. Thank you so much for all the information. I bought a brand new 2016 XL, 2.7 Ecoboost then, and I traded for a 2021 STX, 2.7 Ecoboost in October of 2021. For the years I owned the 2016, I changed the oil and filter myself. It's good to know that in changing oil and filter will be the same in my 2021. I kept two filters on hand and a spare housing just in case of unexpected problems. As of now I have a FL 2062-A and a FL 2062. I wonder if I can use the FL 2062 in my new truck? Thank you in advance, and I'm much appreciative for your instructions.
Yes you can, however the 2062 has been discontinued and replaced by the 2062-a
I use channel lock when I drain the oil
Have you looked at the Ronin drain plug for this engine? It seems to be a solid design and a huge improvement over the yellow one from the factory, but it is expensive. I change my oil frequently because I drive a lot, so it might be worth it.
Yes I have looked into that and it looks sweet, but yes expensive. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome video thanks for sharing. You mentioned you bought the oil change kit from the dealership can purchase the oil filter any other place? Thanks again
Walmart usually carries the filter but it depends on which Walmart you go to in my experience. Thanks for the comment and view and make the day great!
Great Video. Can you post more videos on regular maintenance for this truck. I just brought this truck and I want to keep it in good condition. Thanks just subscribe.
I appreciate the comment and as I do maintenance on this truck I will post a video. Top two things that I always get with the f150s are Husky wheel well liners and rubber mats as they have always worked great.
I was waffling between the 2.7 and the Coyote on a 22 but this has firmed up my go with the coyote approach. I am not big on the plastic oil pan or drain plug and they made the pan metal again on the Coyote with normal spin on metal oil filters. And I hope the new piston rings solves the oil use problem with the Coyote. Good video on the oil change BTW.
The coyote has a plastic oil pan and drain plug too I had 2 5.0 go with the 2.7 you won't regret it
I'm pretty sure all F150 engines have plastic oil pan. I've decided to go with the 2.7 when I order my XLT supercab later this year. It's a better built, less complex engine than the 5.0 and has similar performance, better fuel economy. This is the most reliable engine available in the F150, based on warranty claim numbers.
@@dlg5485 I had 2 5.0 a 2012 and a 2018 they are phenomenal engines but I just recently purchased a 2021 with the 2.7 and it's absolutely amazing I actually prefer the 2.7 over any engine options they have but they are all good
I wouldn’t base the purchase of a truck on an oil change🙄. I’ve heard so much good about the 2.7 , I went out and bought one, Love it!
@@anthonys7534 it's an amazing engine
Does this work on a 2022 f150 2.7 ?
I've always noticed when I put six quarts in that it is slightly over. That has always bothered me .I don't know why Ford recommends 6 quarts
Yup I have noticed that too if you don't get all the oil drained out 6qt will be too much.
Here in Mexico the dealer always puts 7 quarts! They get mad when I tell them to drain 1 quart.
Is your truck lifted? Mine is stock, I think I can fit under mine but not sure lol. Great video!
Nope not lifted and bone stock! Thanks for the view and the comment. Have a great one!
@@BigbeardMN Awesome, I am going to try to get under it today! Thanks!
It's 24 Nm (~17 ft-lbs.) not 24 in-lbs.
I recommend 3k oci
Should the O ring be replaced on the oil pan screw ?
Ford recommends it but if visually it looks good I re-use it.
How’s the oil plug holding up?
No issues to date
Love my eco boosts but would never ever run synthetic blend is any vehicle I own. Spend the extra few bucks and get full synthetic. Blend is mostly crap conventional. Especially turbo charged engines
You mean it's not mandatory to splash your hands, face, tools, and floor with oil when it gushes out?!?
what about the 3.5?
I have never done a 3.5 but the process and order of things would be the same but with different capacity and filter potentially
THOW AIR DAM AWAY
Semi synthetic???
Why not full synthetic? And motor craft is just name you pay for.and Napa gold filters are just as good if not better
Pretty sure you are supposed to change the O-ring on the drain plug as well...
I bet it’s fine if you don’t every oil change but eventually you can push the tab on the plug up or down and you’ll know if it’s bad if oil seeps through
You should replace it entirely once a year. I bought a 3 pack off Amazon for like $10 and when I put a new one in it was not wiggly at all. It was nice and tight. The old plug that had over a year on it was very loose…
With ecoboost engines oil change intervals need to be under 5000 miles closer to 3000 miles because it being turbo charge.
Per. Ford boss me CZcams channel.
He will tell you why
I change mine every 1000mi .
