    I’ve been a pilot for 63 years-I “preflight” everything, including my trike. So far, no surprises in the last three years. I’m a little late to the trike party, had a major accident on a recumbent bike,seven days in the hospital. My wife suggested that 😢I needed three wheels at my age.

      Well Scot, it's never to late to go to 3 wheels :) ICE Trikes has a good Pre-Ride check list www.icetrikes.co/support/kite-check

    I always wear my helmet. A few weeks ago I was visiting Wenatchee Washington and riding the Apple Loop when it got very windy and a tree branch fell on my head. I got a headache and a dent in my helmet, but I could continue my ride since my car was on the other side of the river.
    I store my trike in my car. I’m weird that way. It’s always in there unless I’m riding it or fixing it. I just replaced two spokes on one wheel. It may have been because of excessive cornering, or maybe tree roots. I’m not sure. I have 34 spare spokes that I have to resist bringing with me on rides now

      I remember when I use to ride mountain bikes, I'd always get smacked by a tree limb. Glad it does not happen as much anymore on my trike :)

    Always wear a helmet. I was hit by a car on an E-scooter. I knew that thing was more dangerous than the bike so I'd taken to wearing a motorcycle jacket as well as a solid helmet. That gear saved my life. Helmet took a good wack, arm got run over, I walked out of the ER 2 hours later with some deep tissue bruises and a forehead laceration from my glasses breaking. The EMT's were surprised how well geared I was but told me afterward that they've had to try to scoop grey matter back into skulls to transport accident victims without a helmet before.
    Never assume you cant hit your head just because your in a lower and more stable position. Even if its less likely you can still tip a trike and anyone can have a runin with a reckless driver.

    My Trike sits in the living room smack dab in the middle. Of course I do not have furniture so I just toss a cushion on the seat and watch that movie! Time for a ride? Just roll out the front door!

    Thanks for the video. What do people do who can't phone a friend with a truck or rack? Is there roadside service for trikes?

      AAA has coverage for minor repairs but not for transporting the trike.

    #10: Water. In a bottle cage or in a pack. Get tired of just water: Gatoraid or something similar.

      I know its probably a bad idea, but I'll sometimes put iced coffee in my bottle for my morning ride. 🙂

    I wear a helmet all the time, let’s face it if the guy in the F-350 hits you, you’re a goner. I’m more worried about tripping getting on/off the trike and hitting the ground or a curb.

      I can't walk through my kitchen without stubbing my toe. I might have to start wearing my helmet there as well 😂

    I've been riding a two wheeled recumbent since 91, with out any kind of thing to hold my foot on the pedal, with out a problem. If I where to get something, it would be old fashioned Toe Clips. Yep, I also wear a helmet.

    • @LaidBackCycles
      @LaidBackCycles  Před měsícem +1

      With trikes being lower, you have to worry about foot suck (leg/ankle/foot going under the crossmember). Foot retention becomes a priority for safety at that point.

      @@LaidBackCycles I ride a two wheeled recumbent, and I had to learn not to put a foot down, when making a sharp turn. As for a trike. I've ridden a few in my day. Never needed to be clipped to the pedal. But that could just be me.

      @84bmw325e Před měsícem

      I like my clips, I push and pull (not pulling hard) on my pedals. I find doing it this way I am less tired after my ride and a little bit faster because I am not trying to always pushing on both pedals to keep my foot from falling off.

    Shokz bone-conducting headphones.

    Listening to music or books while riding? Try bone-conduction headphones that keep your ears open to hear everything around you but still let you listen to music or a book. I use the Shokz OpenMove headphones and have found them to be excellent when riding. Disclosure: I have no affiliation with Shoks.
