Could Rodman Ever Stop Larry Bird?
well, different sport, but you know what they say... "on any given ____day..."
Im sure here and there Rodman could hold him to some un-Bird-like stats (that most other NBA players would kill for a line like that lol), but 9 times outta 10, Rodman's main weapon (besides the insane cardio and hustle lmao) is his ability to disrupt and get under guys' skin and hence out of their game.... can't do that to Bird. He'll never shut up, probably wind up rattling Rodman, and like you've said MANY times here, justly of course, not hating--- dont poke the bear.
Rodman gets more physical, or mouthy, or touchy-feely, Bird gonna find that SEVENTH gear, never mind 5th or 6th haha, and just go off for around that 60 he says haha...
Bird is one of a very select few players that when you talk about his stats in games, you really can't just go "30 pts, 11 boards, 11 dimes"....you gotta also mention steals, turnovers, shooting percent, triple slash percentage.
He aint gonna have too many 9 pt, 6 rebound, 5 assist but with 0 turnovers and 5 steal games, dont get me wrong....but when you say "Bird put in work that night, dropping 35 pts, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, to go along with 88% from the field, including 78% from 3 and only missing 1 free throw in 11 trips to line. He also had 4 steals, an impressive 0 turnovers and only 1 fould, in 44 minutes of play"
lmao...THATs HOW you get more and more young cats who dont know to keep putting respect on his name. And the crazy thing is, those kinds of games WERE NOT few and far between.
If Bird were playing today, he's be a fan-doool parlay darling, giving i'd say 4 outta 5 games 22-30 pts, 7-12 boards, 6-10 dimes, 45-50/37-41/88-91 shooting, 2-4 steals, 0-3 turnovers... it's a SHAME, no matter how poetic it was, that he and Magic both had their issues that robbed us all of another 4 or maybe 5 seasons or so of those 2 saviors if they were to stay healthy
Well... points wasn't Bird's only game which is why he is GOAT.
Who's Dennis Rodman?
@@Celtokeewho is he?
A giant flying, flaming, North Korean dictator loving POS comes to mind.
STOP? Never, nobody ever stopped Bird. Rodman was a great Defensive player/rebounder, BIRD is arguably the best top 2/3 players EVER. P.S There was 1 player Larry struggled against, that was a rookie in 1981(?) LARRY SMITH of Golden State - he was a rebounder deluxe and stopper. Bird only had to play @ GS once a year so not really much else stat-wise, but I do remember Bird having trouble w/ Smith.
Rodman is remembered as a nut job. Bird is remembered as a superstar
You misspelled “Legend.”
Bird wouldn’t have to adapt to the leagues style, they’d have to adapt to Birds style.
Today's style, other than the level of reliance on the 3, IS Bird's style to a serious degree.
Dennis Rodman and Isaiah Thomas were both jealous of Bird, and acted like small children with their silly remarks. Bird torched their asses repeatably and was the best player of the 80s hands down, and for me GOAT.
Bird was definitely great, but he's no GOAT, bro. I thunk if he hadn't run into back issues and injuries, he'd be in the conversation and definitely considered, but those injuries got him.
Agreed. Bird forgave Isaiah. But this racism still exists in the form of Kendrick Perkins on. his absurd rant on white MVPs. Nash Dirk and I think Joker. Also the idiot Gil Arenas. A Euro hater!!
@@Thomasbj1996 If Bird was Black he would be one of the GOATS!! There is no GOAT singular!
@kennyelson792 there is a GOAT (Singular). His name is Michael Jordan.
Yeah that whole GOAT convo always boils down to LeBron or Jordan with some fringe people saying Kobe or Magic and the one guy that gets left out and it’s criminal is Kareem. 6 titles (one in Milwaukee before LA 5) all time scoring leader until LeBron who never went to college broke it and had a 3 pt line which Kareem didn’t have for ten years became such a big part of the NBA and his abilities. 4 NCAA titles!! 6 X MVP 2 X finals MVP 19 X all star Rookie of the Year first year with Milwaukee they went from 27 wins to 56
2nd all time points
3rd all time Rebounds
1st in field goals made
2nd in games played
3rd in blocked shots
Jordan LeBron and Kareem were all 3 “force of nature” type players, but Kareem was sullen and felt misunderstood until well after Magic came along, but his numbers add up to at least the Michael & LeBron convo. He just wasn’t beloved until late in his career and NEVER like those guys or Kobe or Magic or Larry.
You can say stats don’t matter , but you’d just be wrong🤷♂️ Ididn’t even get into all his college records and he wasn’t allowed to play as a freshman just like ummm oh Pistol Pete??? LeBron broke Kareem’s scoring record like Caitlin Clark broke Maravich’s record😂I’m kidding the LeBron one is legit, hers is horseshit… Pete played 3 years and averaged 46 a game with no 3 pr line so gimme a break!
LeBron despite having a 3 point line, has taken 1000 more shots than Kareem and made 1006 or whatever less!!! Kareem had Magic, LeBron had D Wade and Jordan had Pippen, I’m just right and I’m saying hr isn’t in the convo because he distrusted media and people didn’t like him 🤷♂️
I don't even think about Rodman. I'll never forget Larry.
Exactly😊
Rodman was a psycho, thug whose mentality became typical of the NBA approach to basketball and eventually drove most basketball fans away from the game.
👍
Sounds about whyte! I forgot about Larry when Michael Jordan hung 63 on him and showed him what a real athlete looks like 🤣✊🏿💪🏿👑🇺🇲
Laimbeer has a certain ring to it?
I've been a Bird fan as black man since the 80s, and boy can play back in the day!
There are four or five really bad white guys from the United States that can play in any era for any NBA team and be Stars.
Larry bird, Pete maravich, Jerry west, Steve nash, and John Stockton.
Those are the five that come to mind. For centers, it's Bill Walton and nobody else. I wouldn't take Walton because he never stayed healthy, but if he could have shaken the injury bug I'd have him all day on my team
Oh man! I hated Bird and the Celtics as a white kid. I was a Dr J and Sixers fan so I had reasons.
Bird played against Black guys on the playgrounds as a teenager, because he couldn't find enough real competition.
@@craigwheeler4760 None of those 5 White guys (other than Bird) won a Chip. Walton did win 2 of them. One w/Portland against the 76er's and one with Boston (as a reserve). Maybe Jerry West finally won one, but he had Wilt on the team (in 1971-72). Wilt first won in 1967, with Philadelphia. He won 2 total.
Rodman was an excellent role player. Bird was a legend.
He made it look standard.
Rodman couldn’t carry Bird’s laundry. Thomas is a fraud.
... speaking of over rated - Thomas was always a whining, sissy, punk with a mouth bigger than his game.
It's good there are Rodman's to show us what a class player like Magic is.
Dennis Rodman is a loud mouth mouse,Larry was and is a Legend, and that is why he is known as "Larry Legend Bird."
Bird was the best player in the league. He made his entire team better. If the Celtics '87 draft pick Len Bias had not tragically died, they surely would have won more than 3 championships. Bias was #2 pick in the draft. He was a 6'8'' powerhouse on the inside. An immediate contributor kind of player...RIP Len Bias. His passing still hurts.
What could have been.
As Rick Barry said, the players of the past didn't have nutritionists, physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, etc., nor were they allowed to palm, travel, double dribble, go to the hoop unimpeded, and so forth. Thus the greats of the past would be even better in todays NBA.
Don't forget steroids, EPO, stem cells and HGH!
The thing is Bird saved Isaiah's Career. He said if Issiah said it was a joke I will take his word and that ended the controversy. Then the Celtics smoked Detroit by 38 in game 6. Bird let his play do his talking. Dennis who?
People should always put Larry Bird in the GOAT debate. Bird made happened on what he said at almost every time!
Bird was playing hurt & still dominated Rodman
"You never hear about a black player being the greatest"? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah just the white guys like MJ, Wilt, Russel, Magic Lebron. "smile"
@@chrisb7198 Yessir. Kareem and Oscar Robertson as well All deserving candidates certainly.
@@neilzinn8145 Yeah so many good "white" guys people talk about. lol
Wasn't Chamberlain and Russel Black?
@neil The word greatest has always been attached to white athletes, no matter what the white narrative is the white athletes always have to be on top.
Bird is playing today, Bird is Luca, Bird is Jokic, Bird is Sabonis (;
Those Europeans boys are better than him athletically, but Larry have a lion heart, that man was fearless…a killer.
They're not even close to Larry. If the refs called traveling and carrying, there's not one player in today's game that would average double digit points. Games would end in scores of 22-18.
@@GMP-OfficialLarry and Luka are both far better athletically than Jokic.
Larry was a great endurance athlete and he like running long distance races, including a few marathons. @@Amick44
They great players but don't disrespect bird cuz they put up 50 or won a mvp will jump you
I often wish we had a healthy prime Larry Bird playing in today's game. It would be a different league, I'm sure.
I agree! I also think him not being healthy is what stops most from putting him in the GOAT convo. That back injury and other injuries kept him from a prolonged career.
He had a broken back by 88. I believe he broke it in 86. He was absolutely incredible. Rodman wouldn't even start today.
The 80’s was the best era of the NBA. I lost interest after it got soft. Never a Celtics fan - I liked the Knicks. I was in awe of Jordan. I now hate the NBA. I detest James and all the stupid justice warriors. I went to games and saw Jordan live against the Nets and bought gear. Never ever again.
My nephew watches today's NBA, so I watched a game with him and barely recognized it compared to the 70's - 90's. How on earth could anyone think MJ, Bird, Magic, etc. couldn't play in today's league.
@@sleightofmind2016 According to some comments by Dennis or Isiah - Bill Russell or Wilt couldn't play in today's NBA. Nor could people like Dr. J, Magic, or OSCAR! I remember watching Larry at Indiana State and telling my brother (who was 10 years old - thus an Oscar Robertson fan) that i was watching the greatest BB player of all time. He said - even including Oscar? I said yes! I still think I am correct.
The appraisal I heard often from those who knew him and competed with him was the Larry played the most intelligent game in basketball: the perfect blend of skill, strategy, instinct and trash talk..
That Detroit team was one of the dirtiest in the history of the NBA.
same stuff is said about caitlan clark and for the exact same two reasons, one of which is jealousy
Absolutely !!
You know, it drives me crazy when people say that Larry didn’t play anybody in the 80s… That playoff run took him past Jordan‘s Bulls, the Bad Boy Pistons, and the Showtime Lakers. Not to mention the Bucks (who were always competitive in the East). - That’s a hell of a series!
Don't forget the sixers with Dr j, Moses, MO cheeks, Bobby Jones, and Andrew toney and the Dominique Wilkins, tree Rollins, doc rivers hawks
Larry was on a totally different basketball level than Rodman and even Thomas.
How long have u had an underdog as profile .? Do u have a tat of the shoe shine boy?
@@PA-UNDERDOG Shoe shine boy? What is that supposed to mean?
Rodman and Thomas took their racial animus public. 90% of that animus toward Bird was never made public. Caitlan soon enough is learning what Bird went through.
Bird was GREAT, Catilin will Be Great, Thomas and Rodman Won Two Championships, He Athletic, He's an Intelligent player, Heard this Quotes all my life,Am 63 Now Black Man, We Never started this Race thing America did, Let's hope Angel and Catilin do for the WNBA, what Magic and Bird TWO FRIENDS did for the NBA!!! PEACE!!
@@EarlGarrett-kl7tl: Dude, Obama re - ignited the "race thing", and the amount of young black folks who were kids/young adults when he was President is proof with their talk of repirations/white supremacy/white privelege instead of working to be the best they can be.- like MANY black folks have done.
Democrats need the race hate to perpetuate so they can get the shallow minded to vote for them.
Biden and a lot of black athletes/entertainers told you to vote for him...then on day one he reversed Trump's border policy and has brought in 8 million new illegals and given them $$$/jobs/housing over BLACK AMERICANS because they know thry can say...WHITE PRIVELEGE and a lot of black folks will still vote Democrat.
Who do you think has been telling black folks what to do and how to think, who yo hate, and running black neighborhoods - including police/courts the past 50 years..DEMOCRATS.
Bird didn't "go through" anything - he didn't allow that crap to touch him. He was above all of that.
A comment to Rodman: If, IF, a frog had pockets he would carry guns to shoot snakes. If, if, if means NOTHING.
Bird flu is incurable!
Rodman is a sad, sad, sad case!
He should never have gotten past the psyc ward.
Touché! I even love his new commercial fighting mayhem!!!! Dennis who????
Bird would average over 30 easily in todays game and triple doubles almost every night, and Rodman would be a nobody, because you can’t be a physical defender in todays game. He would be in foul trouble all the time.
Larry Bird was a type of player that knew how to not just play his position, but play the WHOLE floor with 4 other players. No other player had that ability.
For me, Bird is the GOAT 🎉
Absolutely...
Bird never forgot what Zeke said about him either
Yet he hired Isaiah to coach the pacers when larry became the GM 🙄
Todays NBA game is trash!
I've started liking it again with the play of our Indiana Pacers. The best player on the team leads in scoring and assists (oft times way more assists). I think he averaged 10 assists per game while scoring in double digits. I've actually started watching some of the games and their passing is just like in the '80's Celtics teams. They run, they play in your face defense - it's actually fun to watch.
All the greats motivated themselves with their opponents' words. Bird, Jordan, Magic. Magic is the only one who'd smile at you while dominating.
it is blasphemy to put Rodman's name next to LARRY BIRD'S.......
LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN AND THE *TRUE* GOAT!!! 🐐 ☘️
Never knew Isiah Thomas was that cheap.
Thomas was sissy playing in a man's game.
Rodman showing his ignorance! He only wished that he could play like Bird.
I think this stat says it all: Dennis Rodman's net worth $500,000; Larry Bird's net worth $75 million
Typical American comment, only thing that matters is MONEY.
@@JukkaRamo Not the "only thing that matters." Just one and in this case a big one! Rodman made $27 million in his playing career while Larry Bird made $24 million. Larry parlayed his earnings into a fortune where Dennis passed away his fortune.
Rodman is a big joke!
Bird would wipe the floor with Rodman. Rodman was just already trying to get attention because he had to have it to breathe 😂.
Larry was truly something special.
So was Pistol Pete as well.
Rodman turned into a joke of a person on and off the court and Bird will always be remembered as a class act.
i wish you would have given more context to what bird was dealing with... not only did biias die. but mchale who was having a career yr and MVP caliber yr.. was now playing on a broken foot not to mention Walton was hurt
Thanks for making this video = so needed and well done!!!
Bird’s Greatest Asset Was Always Out Thinking His Opponents, They Never Knew His Next Move. He Gave Michael Cooper One Of The Best Compliments As The Best Defensive Player Against Him.
Thank you for your commentary on LARRY.
Michael Jordan had Rodman hired to get rebounds
“If Larry Bird were playing today, he’d be riding the bench in Europe”--Dennis Rodman [Hall of Fame Forward]
No , never. Mr. Bird could attack or defend in countless dimensions while Rodman was basically a one dimensional player (rebounding)!
First vid here, Great job! That was a lot of fun to watch, Now and back in the day.
Really? Rodman said something stupid? The guy who said kim jong un was a great guy? Imagine that.
Rodman makes me laugh. He's a cuckoo bird. Bird is the Bird!!!
Isaih said that to back up his teammate. He knew it was a stupid thing to say
Last time I saw Rodman in any context was when he was on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice show. Trump gave him every break he could, but Rodman was a hot mess and he finally had to tell him, “You’re fired”.
Thomas said what he did with a roll of his eyes, he wasn't agreeing with Rodman, he was basically saying yeah right lol. Don't go by the written words of Thomas, listen to him say it and you will understand, I did.
All the great players could play in any era. Period.
Yeah if Larry were playin' today, he'd be playing in Europe for real.
HE IS 68 YEARS OLD!!
@kenD67 I don’t know what he’s doing these days, but at 68 years old he must be under a lot of stress that man looks really, really “ OLD”
And if President Trump hadn't bailed you out, you'd be playing on the prison team.
LARRY BIRD WAS AND STILL IS ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS OF ALL TIME OUR DOWN HOME BOY FROM INDIANA
The thing is this....there aren't many people that make it to the NBA without top tier athleticism, and the ones that do must have excellent basketball skills. To think that a bit more athleticism today would make someone like Bird ineffective must be the same ones that thought Dirk and Jokic weren't real MVPs.
The Joker is like a modern day Larry Bird, and look how he is dominating the league. Two MVPS would have had 3 if it wasn't for the race comments made by Perkins, so he shuts everyone up by winning a championship. Meanwhile, Embid was out in the 2nd round. Priceless.
Bird is a first ballot Hall of Famer. One of the top 10 players all time. Rodman...... not so much.
Rodman was the best rebounder,he was good offensive player in college, but his NBA coach wanted different role for him.
Rodman was just butt-hurt because he'd been tuned up by a white player for likely the first time in his life. Simple as that.
Bird was the founder of the 50-40-90 club - and its first inductee (1986-87 and 1987-88)
Bird 🐦 will be great in any era ( period ) !!
2:03
There are very few players that have ever won the MVP 3 times.
Russell did it (during a run where he won 5 of 8 and placed 2'nd 2 of the other 3).
Wilt did it (with a few 2'nds, mostly to Bill but one to Oscar).
Bird did it (and placed 2'nd the other 3 seasons out of a 6 year period).
Jordan and Magic both managed 3 out of 6 (interleaved, they had ALL of the MVPs in a 6 year period in a row).
LeBron did manage 4 out of 5.
They were just jealous and made it a WHITE thing? If they truly knew basketball, they'd give Larry Bird the respect he deserves. What? Is no other race is supposed to be better than Blacks in Basketball?
MJ
BIRD
WILT

talk, debate, argue the rest and their place.
but this is your "GOAT" list top 3, in this order.
period
No one says "rodman" without a smirk.
1:06 Larry taking the LeBron James traveling route.
Bird's game would be great in any period. He was the best clutch 3 points shooter ever. His game mirrors the Joker who is the best player in NBA at this time. There is a stigma attached to white players, can not run, can not jump or be a good ball player. Both made clutch shots regularly. Their stats speak for themselves.
The game seems very 3 pointer-centric now, so I imagine Larry would do great.
The problem with the whining Pistons is that the vast majority of the best players in NBA history have been black and deservedly so! That’s why I am so surprised at the comments and whining of Rodman (who has no right to judge other players when he was just a good defender who was nearly useless on offense).
I grew up loving the rockets and sixers but man Larry was the man.
You must of been a moses fan if you liked those two teams
Rodman shot 3s when he was with Detroit. And, his rep never took a hit. I don't remember him being sentenced to jail or prison, so how is he a criminal? Your title was as racist as what he said about Bird.
I am a Bulls fan and i hated Dennis Rodman. Untill the Bulls signed him, then i liked him overnight. His defense and rebounding helped the Bulls get a couple more rings.
WITHOUT A DOUBT BIRD AND RODMAN WOULD DOMINATE IN TODAYS GAME...NO QUESTION...NOT EVEN CLOSE.
I’m not with you on this one and I shall explain why: today’s game is so soft a player like Rodman would be in foul trouble after 5 minutez
I also disagree with you - you should be embarrassed for mentioning Rodman in the same sentence with Bird.
Larry should've won his 4th MVP in '87: that season was better than the last 3. His 4th ring, however, was lost in a bar fight in Boston in '85, after the ECFs. It's a fact that Larry wasn't the same player in the '85 finals: what isn't so well known is that he'd broken his right hand on a bouncer's head celebrating their victory over the 76ers. Had Larry been 100%, the C's probably would've beaten the Lakers and he'd have tied Magic for 4 titles when he retired. If that'd happened, there wouldn't be ANY talk of him being overrated. It's fair to say that with both LA's acquisition of Mychal Thompson and the C's loss of Bill Walton in '87, Boston didn't have enough depth and deserved to lose. But not in '85. That was their chance.
In a 1986 interview with the LATimes about the incident, Larry said, "It's not easy being Larry Bird." Look it up.
Look at the players that are talking about Bird......These were the Best at that Time...Many are HOF today... I have never heard more Respect of any Player including Jordan, Kobi, Lebron.. ect.....From othert players Must be something to this.
Rodman clearly suffers from a depressive disorder. His low self esteem makes him act out overtly in order to function. His ability to defend from the post was amazing. He knows he’s different but the Bulls kept him in line without tolerating the abusive nature he learned from Thomas. Cruelty was the point under their coach in the 80s.
Joker 🃏 about to match the three-peat MVP.
I know Dennis rodman has acted in films...well whem they make a film about the WNBA ..he could play Britney Griner...he won't need much make up.
bird was the first to average 50/40/90 he is the founding father
Bird would dominate the current NBA
Is that the game when Larry went off and scored something like 17 points in about 3 minutes ?
Rodman was so good he got beat by a regular player. Sooo what does say about his game?
I like Dennis Rodman but next to BIRD no comment
The legend took em all on. You cant become the Legend if there isn't a Rodman. Golden age of the NBA.
Bird FOUNDED the 50-40-90 Club AND achieved it twice. Rodman was a rookie who should have kept his mouth shut. Thomas should have known better. This is racist and inexcusable on every level. And Thomas wonders why no one wanted him on the 1992 Olympic Dream Team.
I guess what Rodman said back then isn’t true anymore Michael Jordan, The Goat!!! Larry bird is also up there as well!!!!
Isiah was taking the heat off a rookie onto himself. That's what a leader does. Rodman was not media savvy.
Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Kareem, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson. All of these players have been labelled as possibly the best NBA players of all time!
Dennis Rodman was a great defender and rebounder in a time when tackling was allowed on the court. Bird was a great scorer in a time when tackling was allowed.
In a softer game - Bird (like Jordan) would score MORE than they used to. I don't know if Rodman (the greatest rebounder of all time) would be able to change his game around to fit in and succeed.
Greatest TEAM player ,imagine if he was a gunner😂,60 point average
Rodman wouldn’t even make the team in Europe
Did Dennis ever hear of Wilt Chamberlain?
You can say all you want about Rodman and Thomas... but Rodman won 5 Chips and Thomas won 2 (plus the NCAA Chip as a sophomore). It was these two players... who eventually dethroned the Bird led Celtics in the following year (1988) and they won 2 in a row (1988-89 & 1989-90). It was these Detroit Pistons who made the NBA change to the non-stop crybaby action we have to watch today. There's no Defense and teams can come back from 20 points down on a weekly basis. This is just a bunch of athletic, fast, taller, 3-point shot taking specialists... who can score 100 points in only 3 quarters.
Just when I thought Rodpuller had learned something. Wrong again 😍😆
