Commentary driving. Helpful for learner drivers as well as experienced.

- Commentary driving is a great tool for improving your early planning and anticipation methods.
It is literally a case of saying what you see.
Talking out loud about what it is you are seeing will allow you to react and plan early based on what is considered the biggest hazard ahead of you.
Are there traffic lights coming up?
Is it that the car 6 cars ahead of you is braking?
Is it there is a roundabout coming up?
What is the bus at the bus stop just about to do?
Are those pedestrians just about to cross the road?
Is that cyclist going to carry on ahead or pull out in front of me?
Are those children going to run into the road to get their ball?
Any or all of these things as well as hundreds of others can make you drive just slightly differently to deal with the situation if you've seen it coming up, but if you don't look further ahead in the road you will miss it or not be able to plan early enough to be able to deal with it.
You have a funny way of labelling every thing ahead of you `pedestrian on the right, car on the left…’ i consider it an intelligent move as it can help one focus and plan ahead. Welldone!
Excellent driving skills, thank you ❤
Great commentary. I'm currently learning and preparing for my test and found this really helpful thank you. Subbed.
Thanks for your Comment. Just one person finding my videos useful makes it worth while making them. Good luck with your test!
You are a real gem for learner driver. Thanks for teaching free of cost. God bless u
You are very welcome Tariqali
I did commentey driving on my test . Passed with 2 minors . No mirror faults
Great job!
Thank you so much 👍👏👏👏
In Europe hand break officially is just option on trafic lights and even ,nit recomended option ...I talk about manual cars . Buses must stop with hand break, again that is completely different vehicle. But yea no hand break on trafic lights and neutral is the instructions , with going on first gear wen yellow line go on
great video this ty
very useful, thanks.
Good camera position. Thanks for guiding us.❤✅🙏
You are very welcome
You have a passenger with either a morse code machine or they have loose false teeth!
Watching your video made me have learned more than any of my driving lessons! Really appreciate it and I will do commentary driving from now on. A small question: At 19:32, could it be changing two lanes in one signal? Or have I missed something? Cheers
Hi, glad the videos are helping you. There were 2 signals used .
One was for turning left at the lights and then the other to notify I was moving to the right lane in the new road.
Just come upon your channel and this is my first comment. One thing you seem to be doing is staying in low gears when it looks like you could be changing to a higher one. It looked like you stayed in 3rd when it was a 40 mph zone, I have noticed this from other driving instructors videos. I would like to know your thoughts on fuel economy. My car gives an indication of when to change gear, I appreciate this is only an indication but I mostly change anyway. I could be in 4th in a 30mph zone and still being within the speed limit.
This is often done when traffic and other circumstances merit the flexibility of a lower gear in allowing the speed to be varied just by use of the accelerator ; this may use more fuel than driving in a higher gear , but can be appropriate to the circumstances .
Nice drive .
I first did commentary driving when I did my advanced courses with the police several decades ago ( late 1970s ) . Below is one I did for one of my car clubs a few years ago to illustrate what it's about .
I'll see if I still have any emergency response runs as well .

Here's one of my colleagues on a training run ; I'm in the passenger seat filming this

Alas no commentary on that one , but it does show response driving from an emergency drivers' point of view . I will see if I can find one with commentary .

Can you speak a bit quicker and with more background noise?
