It's a good idea to video the examinator while you take the test, as if you get one gay like i did , that will fail you for no reason , then you will have a video and dispute this . Don't tell him about it tho.

All things considered, he kept the car well under control while in the intimidating presence of Nigel. Must be a shock to go from car rides with Richard, to them with such an intimidating fellow.

@@user-kv3ut1rj2k depending on the area mate i never left gear 1 up to 3, but best i can say is just mirrors, mirrors and mirrors. especially when overtaking just remember on turns and starting off and blind spots.
Richard, I can't stop watching your videos despite the fact that I am in Canada. My goodness, you're I think the best instructor putting out videos on youtube, and I've watched hundreds of them. I think the reason for that is that you focus on logical and spatial awareness, not just silly "reference points" on every occasion, and you cover some topics like tight spaces and anticipation better than most people out there. I look up to you and aspire to be a driver like you.

23:06, I had this exact situation, examiner asked me what I'd normally be doing. I chose to have a nice chat and it helped my nerves to be honest, on a test that I was not confident at all on being my third test and I had made a LOT of serious faults in the hour before. I went on to pass with no faults somehow.
I've been following your channel for almost 3 years. Let that young man represent how followers like me feel about you and the way you teach. He seems comfortable, excited and confident to be under your wing. You are very polite and gentle sir. I only wish i was local in europe to you.
When you fast forward the video it looks like you're doing street racing with your students. Definitely a must have skill for new drivers

Passed test first time this morning (w) wet lap ;). But just wanted to come back and say a big thank you for your videos, I used a number of CZcams Channels in preparation for the test but yours is by far the best out there. You truly take time to think about the thought process of a leaner. Advice for other with and upcoming test.
- you won’t always be confident before your test but you can still be ready!
- when doing emergency stop be carful not to increase speed over the speed limit before being told to stop.
- nothing wrong with a little nerves to keep you focused.

Failed 2 tests with stupid things due to nerves, got my 3rd one tomorrow at 9am and I'm very nervous again (i hope the roads are empty). Binging these videos for last minute revision and tips haha! Thanks for the videos:)

I passed a few months ago but my advice is if you're unsure when to move at busy junctions and roundabouts don't risk it, wait until you're a little more confident.
DON'T OVERTHINK, try to keep your head empty and just focus on the road.
Drive safely but not slowly.
Be aware of all your surroundings. Check your mirrors every time you turn into a new road, change lanes, etc.
STAY HYDRATED, Chew gum if it helps. Drinking cool water made me feel less hot and anxious when the stress got to my head lol
I know you are super busy, but I would really love to do a mock test with you - your videos are the absolute best and are a go to for confidence

I can see why he got the speed serious fault. The tree on the left was covering the sign, but on the otherside of the road was a small national speed limit sign. Was quite unlucky I felt. Interesting videos on your channel Richard, as I'm 2nd driving lesson down. Watching the mock tests videos in learning absolutely loads. Great stuff! 👏
These videos have been helping a lot recently my test is soon and I’ve been doing well but this is a just tips and things that could be useful which trust they are
I would love to see more content like this. I'm german and have to admit that the practical driving test in Germany seems easier for me. I didn't have to hill starts, and have to stop so often, and move back to traffic. They checked my parking, emergancy brake, city driving, and motorway skills, that's it.
Watching this having passed last Wednesday, First time with 9 Minors. These videos really helped!! Especially the roundabout ones!!

Totally sympathise with the parallel park nerves there! I've also got the methods of reverse into a bay and parallel park mixed up in my head, if I'm *thinking about it too hard* instead of yknow, doing as I was taught! It feels like the most difficult manoeuvre to master.
16:40 "In a quarter mile at the roundabout take the second exit..." The TomTom used on test tells you "Go right at the roundabout", "Go left at the roundabout" or "Cross the roundabout" which lets you know whether it is a right or left turn or straight ahead, followed by the exit number. The second exit we hear on the video could be straight ahead or a right turn. The TomTom SatNav used on test simplifies correct lane selection with the direction and exit number. You may also look at the map etc. on the unit for very short information gathering.
This is a nice bit of a quick overview, failed two tests so far with 1 minor 1 serious each time. Got another test tomorrow 7AM let's pray we get it this time haha

It may just be a camera thing, but at that speed and it being a brick wall, I daresay some examiners would happily mark that as a serious fault. My examiner brought up a driving fault where I was a little too close to the hedges and said it could well be a major had I been going faster. Having said that, really solid driving by Harvey and helpful commentary from you!
Have you considered filming a mock test with an experienced driver or a former pupil? I feel like that would give some good learning points there too (and help keep us "experienced" drivers humble!).
It could possibly be a serious fault, comes down to the individual examiner. I may do that in the future.
That hill start compared to the one I'm currently practising on, is like a straight road 😂

Well done Harvey, you've got the makings of a good driver. But mind those walls, they can be very unforgiving! Richard, just a wee suggestion, you could get a couple of toy cars to help to explain what can happen when they're manoeuvring too close to other vehicles.
22:08 When he emerged from the side road and pulled out in front of a car I think he was positioned too far back to make the decision to move sensibly as he could not could not see sufficiently far down the road. Peeping and creeping until he got the full view was required in my opinion. This is best done when it is clear from the left as it gives vehicles from the right an option to go wide and around you if absolutely necessary .

When peeping and creeping if that car from the right has to move over into the right lane due to you being over the giveway line is that a driving fault??
@@adamek9750 When emerging from a side road where it is not easy to see sometimes the length of your bonnet is such that you cannot effectively see until the front of your car is sticking out into the main road. In this scenario you must not just shove the front out into the main road and then stop. You should stop short of the give way line then edge forward as in peeping and creeping. If you choose to do so when no traffic is coming from the left (which is easier to see as it is on the far side of the road) then if traffic is coming from the right but it is not possible to see it until your front is sticking out slightly the traffic can move wide to pass you. If you move out when traffic is coming from the left and a car comes from the right there might not be enough space for both cars and your front. It's a force majeure, you cannot sit at the junction forever saying I can't see properly.. If it is a fault you have sixteen available. If cars come from both directions and one is forced to do a rapid stop it will be dangerous or serious.
His Nigel act makes for a dry and slightly intimidating examiner. Props to the student. So brave to do a mock test on camera. Hope he passed his reall tests

Kind of nice that the UK allows using GPS during tests. Sweden doesn't; the examiner gives a destination, and the aspirant has to keep a sharp eye out for signboards, to navigate to the goal.
You always need to signal… doesn’t matter if “no one is around.”
Just for comparison, here in Serbia, you must engage your turn signals if you are passing parked cars or actually obstacles on the road, whether you are crossing on the opposing lane or not. It's a minor mark.
Speed limits, as a new driver, you get a 2 years of "beginners" drivers licence where you have a different set of rules, one of them being your speed limit is 10% less than the one set.
Also the parking tests are done on a polygon, also 24/7 blinking stop lights when you are doing any kind of parking.
Also the polygon test contains a rapid speed gain in 1st gear to 30kmph then gently slowing down without locking up, then you have going 1st to second gear and gently slowing down in front of a target point (getting close to it as much as possible). Then you have to go slalom in reverse avoiding the cones. Then goes the parrarel and normal parking -> then goes the driving through the city.
That's quite different to the UK.
