3 TRAFFIC OFFENCES IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES! Why do driving lessons take longer now than they did 20 years ago? Literally, so that we can teach our students the skills to deal with this sort of behaviour that is happening on our roads on a daily basis. SO THAT WE CAN KEEP THEM SAFE! Money means nothing if a person is killed because of inexperience. Let us prepare our learners properly.

Your position in the road gives lots of information to other road users. It makes your intentions clear to others, and it will also assist in backing up a direct signal where necessary. Keep making your intentions clear and stay a safe and helpful driver.

It’s pretty easy, if you leave space for a car door to suddenly open if someone opens their car door suddenly you won’t hit it.
The speed road markings regularly don't match the speed signs in Wales, well my area at least. Quite a few that show 30 on the road, and 20 on the sign
Highly useful and valuable lessons! Thank you so much for helping us learn driving!
This is my problem
Excellent driving skills, thank you ❤

the presenter is talking to the camera for the first couple of minutes , but there is no sound until the driving starts !
Thanks Derek, I'll get this rectified
Yes indeed ; I saw two TSRM ( traffic signs and road marking ) offences where both the car and the motorcycle failed to obey the mandatory KEEP LEFT signs on the central islands ; the car may also have been speeding as well as driving without due care and attention , but the motorcyclist most certainly was speeding , given the indicated speed of the overtaken vehicle on the dash cam . Both the driver and rider put themselves in danger as they passed close to junctions on the right ; and even though emerging traffic still has a duty to check both ways , they would have been primarily at fault in any collision . it should always be remembered that , notwithstanding the islands and KEEP LEFT signage , that emergency vehicles can still pass to the right of these if the road is blocked on the left , although normally they would be on blue lights and sirens as well as proceeding with extreme caution . Always expect the unexpected . Fortunately the car in the first road on the right did appear to look both ways before emerging .
Nice drive . I first did commentary driving when I did my advanced courses with the police several decades ago ( late 1970s ) . Below is one I did for one of my car clubs a few years ago to illustrate what it's about . I'll see if I still have any emergency response runs as well . czcams.com/video/5GE9n5GIb44/video.htmlsi=D2iVMoWcNde5NeZN Here's one of my colleagues on a training run ; I'm in the passenger seat filming this czcams.com/video/BndT_1_liaE/video.htmlsi=O0OpaR8RBB2pLm6_ Alas no commentary on that one , but it does show response driving from an emergency drivers' point of view . I will see if I can find one with commentary .
Just come upon your channel and this is my first comment. One thing you seem to be doing is staying in low gears when it looks like you could be changing to a higher one. It looked like you stayed in 3rd when it was a 40 mph zone, I have noticed this from other driving instructors videos. I would like to know your thoughts on fuel economy. My car gives an indication of when to change gear, I appreciate this is only an indication but I mostly change anyway. I could be in 4th in a 30mph zone and still being within the speed limit.
This is often done when traffic and other circumstances merit the flexibility of a lower gear in allowing the speed to be varied just by use of the accelerator ; this may use more fuel than driving in a higher gear , but can be appropriate to the circumstances .
You have a passenger with either a morse code machine or they have loose false teeth!
This is hard
“Don’t be afraid of stopping” …unless you have a car behind you with better windshield wipers.
If they have "better windscreen wipers" they'll have a better chance of knowing you'd stopped. And anyone not seriously reducing their speed in those conditions possibly shouldn't be on the roads. Drive to the weather conditions
'"You can't hit anything if you're not moving!" No, but some daft tw@t can ram straight into the back of you! A good friend had her neck broken because of this.
Life Skills Driving School. Can you speak a bit quicker and with more background noise?
You could take content like this to the next level if you get a (cheap) drone or another way to get a camera high up, and show these situations from above. Then try to find an empty parking lot, and with some chalk or cones you can reconstruct the situations. Then finish it off with a commentary :D
Excellent comment, and believe me when I say this is already in the pipeline to be done 😁
In Europe hand break officially is just option on trafic lights and even ,nit recomended option ...I talk about manual cars . Buses must stop with hand break, again that is completely different vehicle. But yea no hand break on trafic lights and neutral is the instructions , with going on first gear wen yellow line go on
You have a funny way of labelling every thing ahead of you `pedestrian on the right, car on the left…’ i consider it an intelligent move as it can help one focus and plan ahead. Welldone!
I did commentey driving on my test . Passed with 2 minors . No mirror faults
Great job!
Please kindly show other menovers like this way for beginners. Tnx u
@beatriceng4923 0 秒前 I am preparing my G2 test(Toronto)!!! Turn the steering wheel fully to the right & drive until I see the corner of the parking lot in the side view mirror --> I want to ask✏ 1) When I see the corner of the parking lot in my side view mirror, and then I need to straight the steering wheel before next step (reverse), right??! 2) My foot should fully step on the brake or lightly step on it when straightening the steering wheel?
1. yes straighten or go to full lock in the opposite direction, and then remove steering as required to get you into your bay. For no.2 Be gentle with the brake, you should never need to "step" on the brake pedal unless carrying out an emergency stop.
@@lifeskillsdswhen do you use a 45 degree parking method?
@@user-sk9cf5hr2v pretty much every time i reverse bay park
It's very confusing that the camera pointing to the driver is mirrored.
A valid reply @joost719 The main purpose of the video was for watchers to listen to what was being said against what was going on outside of the car. Note to self.... reverse in car footage to avoid confusion :)
very useful, thanks.
I wonder how are there are not many likes and views on your channel. I appriciate the work - very straight forward and to the point guidance. Thanks for sharing. :)
Perhaps not shared enough or that people prefer the appalling videos mocking other drivers compared to real informative videos. Or possibly I don't pay enough to have them promoted. I dunno. Still as long as what I don't benefits some people it's all worth the time
No.
Take a closer look at the double bend sign
Well, being American the sign looks small and silly, but it also seems to be mounted the wrong way?@@lifeskillsds
That is exactly the answer, the sign is indeed reverse to what it should be showing.@@dieseldan2380
ugly houses no cycle paths
driving on the wrong side of the road must be in another that's about all that there is to see
No
There is no crosswalk, as sign is saying, if I am not mistaking?
There can be cars pulling out from the properties on the left hand side. Or that it can come cyclists from the small road (the road that blocks the vision for the driver) on the left side that doesn't check before going into the road (the road on 0:10). Or my last thought can be that there comes kids running out from one of the properties onto the road.
A well thought out answer thinking about anticipation of what other road users might do so planning ahead. Great answer but not specifically the reason of the clip on this occasion
Didn’t slow down for school zone
Close! But not quite right. You're thinking along the right lines when looking at signs
Im not from UK so no clue, but I did felt the car was very close to the curb at 0:33
Position in the road was very good although camera position can make it look differently. I will post the thing that is wrong within this clip later if no one gets the correct answer
@@lifeskillsdsPassed the pedestrian with the dog too close and/or fast perhaps? Otherwise I have no clue
@@joost00719 clearance was fine. The car was on the road pedestrian was on pavement and speed was within the limit of the road so no problems there.

Nope not in this instance, it is a clip from the UK so we drive on the left
@@lifeskillsds was sarcastic xd
@@lifeskillsdsThat was obviously a joke...
6 was harsh, because they made efforts to avoid it. 7 was not fair, the cyclist ran their ran and the person following should have increased their following distance.
7 feels really harsh. If you pause at 3:09 and look to the right you can see the red light for the cyclist which they clearly ignored...which unfortunately caused them to fail!
100% one impatient cyclist causes a learner driver their driving test pass. If only all road users did what they were meant to do, there would be a lot more passes each year and a lot less cheesed off learners.
@lifeskillsds The thing is aswell is that the driver had to stop. He either gets close to getting rear-ended or getting rear-ended, or the cycllist gets hurt
Im sorry but how do you fail these when i see people with licenses who cant even drive an R/C car
For fall 4 , the driver behind needed to fail their license as he/she didn’t clearly maintain the distance needed. This is ridiculous.
Fail no. 7 a bit harsh, the cyclist wasn’t visible until the very last second and that car was following incredibly close behind, no 2 second gap. So you’re choices are hit the cyclist or brake hard and let tge car behind you crash into the back of you?? Not sure about that one…
I can't disagree with your comment about the cyclist, it was a case of splat the cyclist order rear ended. The fail was marked for planning as the driver should have been looking out for potential cyclists/pedestrians at a crossing point. Clearly the car following was also too interested in sorting out their sun visor to be focusing correctly.
Uk driving test is absolute dog shit, always see people who can't even front bay park pass there test etc pure luck on the day
@@lifeskillsds I agree with Adam. I understand why all of these clips were failed, except for #7. The driver made the turn at a steady pace, not too quickly, and had ample time to emergency stop before hitting the cyclist. It seems to me that they handled an unexpected hazard perfectly well. The issue with the driver behind wasn't even primarily that they were too close (something the test taker could have observed in the mirror), it was that they just completely failed to react to the vehicle in front of them performing an emergency stop, so it should have no relevance to the result of the test.
@@dan_ I couldn't agree more with your comment. In my opinion the learner reacted to the immediate danger (the cyclist). The line of sight of the examiner being slightly different to that of the learner may have allowed them to see the cyclist before the driver, but that should also have been considered by the examiner. Sadly, on this occasion the examiner deemed this situation a serious fault.
For number 4 how's has he not shown lane discipline or for number 8 the other car gave way because the driver got there first I'm confused on that one
For No.4 the lane the driver should have stayed in was to the very outside of the roundabout. They approached the lights in the left approach lane, although the centre lines are very faded, you can still see the path the driver should have taken. By changing into lane 2 without checking to see there was no other vehicle alongside them caused the fail. For fail 8 the oncoming vehicle was made to slow down to allow the driver through. Lack of planning and observations to see the oncoming car with vehicles parked on your side of the road caused the fail.
Watching your video made me have learned more than any of my driving lessons! Really appreciate it and I will do commentary driving from now on. A small question: At 19:32, could it be changing two lanes in one signal? Or have I missed something? Cheers
Hi, glad the videos are helping you. There were 2 signals used . One was for turning left at the lights and then the other to notify I was moving to the right lane in the new road.
Thank you to those who have commented. The camera positions sadly don't give a true reflection of the front of the car and although it may look like the driver crossed the stop line, in fact, they didn't. To those who mentioned the change of lane. FULL MARKS! That is exactly where the serious fault originated. The driver did change lanes (mainly down to the poor visibility of the lane markings) but DID NOT check it was safe to do so hence the failure. Thanks for engaging with these videos. I'll definitely post more
i'd give 2 serious faults for this. Stopping over the line at the lights and moving lanes to the right on the roundabout, that would either go as use of mirrors change direction if they didn't look in the right mirror as they did it, or response to road markings.
The lane markings, although very faded, indicate left lane traffic should remain left, and not all of a sudden switch to the middle lane as this person did. Watch it back closely and you can just about see the lane markings. Unfortunately for the learner, it's not 100% clear from the road markings, but my take on it would simply be I'm in an inside lane, therefore I should continue on travelling in an inside lane.
yeah he stopped over the line waiting for the light
Although is that a fail??
Did not keep left.
Looks like they were caught in the so-called “dilemma zone” (in DfT manuals about road markings etc) in the first few seconds. Bearing in mind the location of cameras like that, it looked like it was a last minute sharp stop with it being stopped past the line.
Could be
