It is for me one of these videos we enjoy the before/after pics! Very satisfying to watch 🤩
This PC was found by my Brother at a garage sale 2 weeks ago, without any Hard Drive or RAMs. So I didn't know if it was able to turn on... the answer at the end of the video 😉

Man, you did a great job on this PC! It looks new! For cleaning filthy fans like that one, you should try a toothbrush dipped in iso-alcohol. It works wonders, and can be reused again and again. Oh, I must also add, the sound is surreal! I used a PC with decent sound, and it was incredible! Keep up the good work French Satisfactory!
I agree, using the cotton swap near the dies with the chance of fibers getting stuck in the components made me a bit worried. You could damage things with cotton swabs if not careful. The toothbrush would have to be a soft bristle brush as well
mmmh true, toothbrush would save plenty cotton swabs and be way more efficient for that situation. I will continue to use cotton swabs to clean regular dust, but for that kind of dirty thing, will try to take another way as toothbrush first.
BTW there is 2 things with using cotton swabs I realised especially in this episode.
- 1st: Using cotton swabs for babies is usually better. they soak up alcohol more easily.
- 2nd: Buy better quality cotton swabs is also better to avoid loosing fibres.
I of course took care about these fibres, but it is also something that worried me.

Thank you very much Rubin! Using a cotton swab was for me the easiest solution. This Motherboard was too much dirty, I even was a bit confused to be honest 😅There was a sticky thing on it... 🤪 But yeah, I guess it would be better to pour more isopropyl alcohol on it and brush it that way.

Well, I can only give you how long it take me to do the shooting. And it is around 10 hours. But during this I change the camera place etc... so...

Oh my gosh that was so nasty and corroded. Emachines sounds interesting. I think that except for restoration you could also show some info on the screen on this computer, the manufacturer and specifics. However - this is yet another great restoration, really satisfying the way you cleaned this mess!
Hi Dippy! If you want more information about the specs, you can check the video description. Everything is there. But you are right, I still have to work on the ending of the videos. To be honest, I just show that the computer is still working after my cleaning process because the rest of the video take me too much time. But I will for sure improve this in the futur and take more time to think about a better ending.

For the sole fact - is the computer still working after your cleaning - I have the same fear from time to time. Though if caps are broken or something else you cannot be sure it will work

Yes, I discussed about this with @Volvo240 and @TheBlueBunnyKen, and finally start to clean it by using a soft toothbrush would be a more effective idea. If I have to face another fan as dirty as that one I will try that way.

I would add that it is a pets owner, did put the PC on the floor and this PC did smell "magic cigarettes"... Bad combo.😅

At that point, I'd just risk it and submerge the whole CPU heatsink -- fan and all -- in warm soapy water and see if I can get the fan to spin. Maybe it might help clean the heatsink somewhat?
Well I did clean the heatsink with water and soap at 18:47. My only limit with that cleaning technic is that I don't want to clean electronic parts with water. But finally immerge the motherboard completely in isopropyl alcohol would be a good solution I guess.

I mean ive been submerging fans into soapy water and every fan still worked after words! and ive been doing it for years now!
OMG it gets worse than that HP I watched? This thing burned at some point! That weird scratchy black lint? I seen that before- it's well done dust bunnies! That thing must have gotten so filthy it couldn't cool anymore, and cooked the lint to the heat sinks! They probably thought the system was dead, as it likely would start up, overheat, and shut off again. It was fine, just REAL gross and needed a scrubbing!
Side note, always loved these weird little systems. So compact, but could slip a low profile gaming card in there, and the PSU could be swapped out for a TFX unit on some of them. Also, I modded one with a Noctua cooler, a better ITX motherboard, and it ran great. IIRC the form factor of this board is UTX- I do know you can buy some online too. Also thought it'd be fun to hook a Raspberry Pi into one of these, with the power supply with it, and drive cages and a USB RAID controller to make a really low power NAS or something. They are really fun little boxes to tinker with, when they're not dangerous to handle from the life forms that might be growing in them.
😂 Yeah this PC was really dirty! Totally different than the HP video you watched. I have no clue about what happened to be honest... but looks like a weird thing fell inside or something 🤪

I confirm, this computer had the most complicated dust to remove for me. Some computers I gave them back to their owners, some I kept them in my office 😅

Zut! That was one 'orrible ordinateur! I think it was definitely a smoker's PC before, and must have been stored somewhere damp. That would darken the yellow dust to brown. The CPU is single core, there should be plenty of better CPUs available used cheap to upgrade it. E.g a Sempron X2 190, if the BIOS allows it.
Yeah, I think also cigarette could be a part of the explanation. But the mother board and the CPU fan was so sticky ... Never saw that thing.

Have you ever thought about doing quicker style videos? Like show the internals of the computer, then cut to them all on a table already dissassembled, then show each one being cleaned. Just a suggestion for a more rapid style video
Then do the full length videos as asmr
Very good question, and the answer is Yes!
In fact, this is something I'm currently working on. Finding the right format of my videos. And I'm still in a study period. As you maybe notice, the 3 last videos are > 20 min
I had in doing 2 more videos like this, and try another format for another 5 video package.
Than way, I could see what you guys are watching more, what format fit better with you etc...
So yeah, this is something I'm still working on, and it will have some changes in the incoming videos 😉

ça m'arrive aussi de récup des PC d'occas, mais en générale ils sont juste poussiéreux, un simple coup d'air comprimé et ils sont propre.
Celui de cette vidéo avait l'air d'avoir du Gras sur ces composants, a croire qu'il était stocké a coté d'une friteuse...🤣

En effet, difficile de dire ce qu'il s'est passé avec ce PC. Comme je l'ai indiqué dans la description de la vidéo, c'est mon frangin qui me l'a ramené d'un vide grenier. Il n'y avait ni disque dur, ni RAM à l'intérieur, difficile même de dire s'il s'allumait à ce moment là. D'ailleurs je n'ai pris aucun risque. Je n'ai rien testé avant nettoyage, c'était donc une grande surprise de voir qu'il à démarré correctement 😅

Gotta love sff pcs. Even if it can't do much these days, its nice to know that this little machine got the respect it deserves with a deep cleaning. Those internals were filthy! I noticed one comment noted about the lack of voice throughout. I saw there aren't subtitles either. I think a big part of ASMR videos like this is keeping only the sounds of the process itself, but perhaps subtitles could help guide viewers. Take for example the channel "Primitive Technology" The nature of it's videos makes it so he doesn't speak, which its the perfect opportunity to use subtitles to comment on the thought process and guide the viewer on specifics about the topic. Of course, this takes more time and it may not be possible to achieve with a tight schedule for uploads, but I think it makes the experience complete for viewers looking for an asmr video. Mmm not much else I can say really, I honestly have no complaints at this point, these videos are spot on. I did notice one of the mics (or maybe was one's mic enhanced audio) have a noticeable amount of background white noise which seemed to be here and there, but that is barely even worth pointing out. Great work as always, cheers!

To answer quickly about the background noise, I guess it is because I didn't close the shutters for the shooting... added to that there is work going on in my street. But this made me realise that I still have to improve some things in the sound. I still don't have the quality I would like for my videos, so I will go back to work on this.
In 2 weeks, It will be 1 year I opened this channel. It is the good moment for me to take new decisions. I have tried lot of things during this year about video editing, style etc... and I feel that I still don't have a video format I would perfectly say it is my "final style". So be sure about that improvements and updates will continue in the next uploads! I will also watch back all the previous videos, analyse what you guys loved the most, what I also love the most, and try to learn better from my experience. What you said about "guide the viewer" is one of these things I will work on also.
1 year, and still so much things to do 😅 But I think it's a good thing.

Interesting! To be honest, I had some issues to make a USB key bootable install working. I didn't have more time for this so I just used an ubuntu CD-ROM. But I will for sure change the OS later.

Well, I didn't smell anything when I opened this PC. This surprised me a lot! But I guess it is because this PC was in a basement or somewhere else for years. Because I also think it was a smoker's PC.

1 core 1thread system, but runs ubuntu 18.04 SMP linux kernel, that a fuxking stupid choice...there is no need to run SMP kernel, it's not necessary to wasting time to run racing condition prevention code, pure overhead.
Well, I only installed this OS because I didn't have time to find a way install something else. I had some issues to make a USB boot install and only had this CD available. And yeah, if I wanter to install something else, had to postpone the upload. So this is only to show that this computer is working after my cleaning session.
