S4:E3 We discuss the difference between Kit car, Replica car, Recreation car, Tribute car and Clone car.
We see these names often, but can sometimes be confusing. Lets break it down:
1) Replica: A car made to copy the original using a donor car (another platform other than the original)
2) Tribute car: It's an original car, but met to copy one particualr or a series of cars in history. For instance one particualr race car.
3) Clone: An original car, but dressed up to look like the higher more desirable trim level of that model.
4) Recreation: Much like a replica, but built from the ground up, it does not use a donor car to build off of.
5) Kit car: A car you buy in parts and build yourself. It could be a replica, but not necessarily.

Awesome video! This needs to be shared. Great lesson!
Thank you, Walter!
Excellent vid Gaston & Renzo. Love the closeups of the cars. Sound and cinematography are on point (I'm taking notes).
Thank you!
I guess another good "synonym" for "RE-CREATED" could be "RE-INTERPRETED", as in a "RE-INTETPRETED VERSION OF TRANS-AM OR CHEVY CHEVELLE, CUDA Etc, etc. Using the old body style with modern materials and amenities and perhaps more finely crafted interiors than the original car with perhaps , modern engines
Another well edited informative video. You guys are killing it keep up the great work 👌🏽 Please make a vid on the Alfa GTA!!!
Thank you and noted!
A James Bond Lotus Esprit? Parked in the corner? By the way, is there a term for the hot rod with the lowered roof and the big wing? Cheers and best wishes from Taiwan
I can see how that makes sense. It's actually a Lamborghini Diablo. I think you are referring to a Rat Rod. Thank you!
I am looking into a 1965 Shelby GT350. What should I be looking for in terms of accuracy or at a minimum must have features/characteristics?
1st thing is authenticating it’s the real deal. 2nd, it will depend on what you’re looking for in a car. Driver, show car, preservation car? Depending on what you want will determine the characteristics you need to look for.
good informative vid ..
> Lotus Esprit >)
BTW > What's the best Shelby Cobra > REPLICA, KIT, RECREATION, TRIBUTE, CLONE ? best ballance > price to power to quality .. (.. Kirkham , Superformance .. ? > ..)
Thank you!
Is it possible to have an audi r8 with a honda civic engine and runs very well?
We have a 72 cutlass supreme that we've added the 442 bumper, tail lights, rear trunk spoiler, W30 hood ( scooped) and 442 badging...front grill is cutlass supreme... not sure how to classify this car...running into some disgruntled purists, as we've " mistakenly" called it at 442 tribute...any suggestion?
We think it encompasses the best features from both.
I really appreciate you putting this together however i’m still confused about something - what is the difference between a replica and a clone?
Seems to me if the definition of a replica is there is a “ donor car” then the Giulia GTA is a replica because the Giulia GT was the doner.
Conversely you said the Giulia GTA wasn’t a replica because it was “a real alpha”, so by that logic shouldn’t the SS 100 be a clone rather than a replica since it’s built on a 1960 Jaguar? (I’m assuming SS and Jaguar to be the same company because they were the same corporation with a name change in 1945 and Jaguar currently lists it’s founding year as 1922.)
What am I missing?
Ah never mind I just saw in the video description you answer this question. Would have been good to add that in the video if possible 👍🏻
👍👍
What about continuation cars?
I know this video is older, but I wonder, what do you call a car which has a donor chassis, but entirely changed otherwise (including custom axles and all the mechanisms attached), mechanically and the whole body? Is that even legal to do?
what is the car left of the alfa? 3:58
A 1952 C52 1900 Disco Volante Fianchi Stretti- we did a whole episode on it. Look back in our channel.
Gaston Rossato I meant that car left of that disco volante, at 3:54, in the garage, the one with two colors
i should have given a more accurate time sorry.
Nice, haha ;)
Thank you
Do Tribute cars hold their value like many classic cars do?
If done properly there will alway be someone willing to pay for it. Never worth as much as the real thing of course, but more than your average sub trim level car
What is a Singer Porsche?!
diablo
Yes, you're good!
Lotus
I can see how that makes sense. It's actually a Lamborghini Diablo. Cheers.
Lamborghini Countach.
Close! It's a Diablo
