  • Tiger nut carp rig. Tiger nuts are a superb bait for carp fishing and they are as easy to present as any other carp bait. This is my favourite carp rig for tiger nuts. It's a tiger nut wafter rig and it uses a 6mm esp nut drill and a cork stick to create the hook bait, an easy to tie carp rig to fish your bait on and a simple inline lead setup which are both covered in detail in separate videos at the end (or below).

    Well demonstrated as always Mark, sometimes with smaller tigers I drill 2/3 of the way into each nut and join them with a suitable length of cork (to achieve the desired effect) and then take the needle through nut/cork/nut. Tight lines.

      @MarkCarp  Před 2 lety

      thanks andy, yep, i do that for my double / snowman hookbaits, you can play about with that set up as well to get different buoyancy. The nut drill/cork gives great flexibility when it comes to presenting tigers👍

    Great video mark, I noticed the end of the rig by the swivel is slightly different from your easy to tie carp rig, is this just abit of tubing over the swivel? Also would you use putty when fishing with tigers like this ? Cheers mate

    • @MarkCarp
      @MarkCarp  Před 2 lety +1

      hi mate, well spotted, i've put a universal clip in there so i can change the rig quickly without having to tie the main line to the swivel every time, the bit of tubing you can see is 2mm silicone sleeving to cover the clip, you can get the clips and sleeving from most tackle manufacturers, the bits i've used are korda. if you've used a big enough nut you shouldn't need putty, it should just sink slowly, you'll only need putty if the bait floats and you want to fish it as a popup. if you want a slow sinker and it's floating take the cork out and trim it down and re-rig the nut, you can keep doing that until you get it sinking although most of the time it will sink slowly if you pick a big hookbait👍

    Good video, I've never use exclusively tiger nuts might give it a whirl.
    Have you ever used kryston snake skin or multi strand Mark? I know it's a bit dated but I like the idea of it...if you've got some would be a good video and interesting to see ways you could use it in today's fishing.

    • @MarkCarp
      @MarkCarp  Před 2 lety +1

      i've got them all lying round somewhere luke, back in the 90's i think everyone used kryston hooklink materials, i start off on merlin, then went to a merlin/mulitstrand combi rig, then onto silkworm which i used for years before switching to esp's sinklink (basically i followed tim paisley's hooklinks up until i went my own way with sinklink). in between times i've tried snake skin, snake bite and atomics jelewyre. i'm not overly keen on the coated stuff, i've resigned it to long range fishing because it's better for tangles but for most of my fishing i like a supple hooklength so my bait behaves more naturally👍 my coated hooklinks at the moment are esp tungsten loaded but as said, only at range, i'll cover them eventually👍 ps...the tigers are awesome mate😉

    • @carpermanluke876
      @carpermanluke876 Před 2 lety +1

      @@MarkCarp yeah I think I had some silkworm a fair few years ago and some skake skin too but wasn't old enough to understand snake skin and to tie anything with it and now I am... Just need some ideas! And I like supple too if I can get away with it... I'm always worried about supple ones tangling though unless real close range fishing as you say. I watched a video of dave Chilton earlier where he puts multi strand in the water and it looks awesome i think!... I'm thinking a 50/50 fairly long hooklink 12"plus half of which is kept costing on and the hook side half stripped so it's still got 6" of movement. And I'll defo give soley tigers a bash on the or own soon then cheers.

    • @MarkCarp
      @MarkCarp  Před 2 lety

      @@carpermanluke876 the merlin/multistrand combi rig is well worth a look luke, merlin sinks and the multistrand seperates so they can't feel it, 5-7 inches of merlin and 2-3 inches of kms was all the rage back in the day, i had some super hits of fish on the combi, you have to gel the kms to work with it and a 4 turn water knot links it to the merlin. when i switched to silkworm i found no difference in run rate so there was no point in using kms, i guess that's why it fell out of favour, that and every other company bringing out there own hooklink materials, it was availability that made me switch off silkworm, i just couldn't find it in the tackle shop anymore, it wasn't selling so they stopped stocking it in a lot of places👍

    What are tigers like in the colder months mate?

    • @MarkCarp
      @MarkCarp  Před 2 lety +1

      despite what people might tell you they still work in winter john, i'll be honest i don't use them myself at that time of year, i tend to go onto single boilies and pva bags or mesh so there's only a mouthful of bait to eat but i have caught on them right through, my sessions are only 4 or 5 hours in winter these days so going through the soaking and boiling for such a short trip isn't really worth it, if i fished longer sessions i'd carry on using them for sure👍
