Lyrics:
Verse:
Is it fate?
if it’s not easy, it must not be
At that age
I cherished the flowers beneath my feet
But then something must have changed in me,
I used to feel so light
Now I’ll try,
I just want time
Pre-Chorus:
Wait again,
I will be much better then
Holding on, I said:
“I will be much better, then”
Chorus:
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Verse:
Are you close?
Shouldn’t it come to you naturally?
And everyone knows:
You’re losing your gift, and it’s plain to see
But then something must have changed in me,
I don’t fear it anymore
Now I’m sure
I’m sure
Bridge:
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Pre-Chorus:
Wait again, I will be much better then
And suddenly, I’ve restored your faith in me
Chorus:
Look at the sky
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good, oh
Something good
Outro:
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good
Something good
Look at the sky, I’m still here
I’ll be alive next year
I can make something good
Something good

I think we can all agree: he made something good.
More than good, this shit is godly... man...
Aah I see what you did there
He is the good
You mean he made *Something Comforting* ?

"I'll be alive next year." I wasn't so sure about it last year. But here I am.
I seriously don't understand why every third person in this god forsaken world seems to be depressed or is dying or some shit like I get it your life sucked but why mention it here?
@@hatschitv9924 And this, folks, is why nobody wants to talk about depression. Because all our mental health does not fckn matter.
@@hatschitv9924 the fact you invested time writing that says a lot about yourself.
@@hatschitv9924 some people experience different things, take them differently and express them differently. They use the internet as a form of anonymous therapy. To not be judged of their experiences but rather just have an outlet to express their feelings. Some people dont have access to therapy or those around them that could possibly act as such. There's no point in being cold as you are when someone is just expressing themself. You dont lile it or it upsets you move on. It just a few sentences on a comment thread on youtube. No need to be toxic.
@@hatschitv9924 Because, we have nobody else to talk to dimwit.
I know it sounds stupid to base your hope on a song and that many people don’t get it, but I’ve been in a downward slump for nearly 2 years. I dropped out of university, have severe anxiety and depression, gave up on all my hobbies and just isolated myself. My mother pulled me out of the darkness before I could do something stupid, I’m applying to a teaching degree, got my license, and saving up for an apartment. This song is something I use as my background to hopefully reach that bright future. One where I’m alive next year, making something good, one where I will be much better in, maybe even return my mom’s faith in me. I get really anxious thinking about the future and what I need to do to succeed but this song gives me hope in a way, it’s an anthem I’m screaming in myself, that I can make something good out of this life.
My goal is to be off the antidepressants by the next two years, and with this music I’m gonna fast track it.
thanks for sharing your story, I sure hope you will do well
I feel you brother.
From someone who knows how hard is to struggle with depression, I know how deep it hits when we decide to say "I'll be alive next year".
i promise you'll get there, mark my words
I wish you the best in all of your endeavors! Stay strong 💪you can do it
Yeah man I dropped out of university due to depression, went to a community college, now I'm back in university. Some people think taking music seriously is silly, but Porter just knows how to make it something positive.
So is nobody else gonna talk about how our boy's went from using vocaloid to sing the lyrics, singing them himself but pitching them up, to finally using his regular voice in songs? I love this.
I remember Shelter, my favorite small clip (I forgot how to call it)
Shelter is an Anime music video (AMV). It is a collaboration with A-1 Pictures for the music video
He has sung for a long time, in worlds he use Avanna vocal because he need represents the "robot" in the story telling, but he sing to in sad machine, he was the representation of the "human". he make the backing vocals for Clarity by Zedd, this is not the first time he sing in songs.
@@geder188 wait, he's the backing vocal for Clarity?
@@FireWyvern870 Yes, he was the co-producer of that song, if you search it he appears like secondary producer, Matthew Koma wrote the lyrics, foxes makes the interpretation, and bum... all happened.
"I cherished the flowers beneath my feet" that line really speaks to me for some reason
its the small acts of kindness and guidance that go unnoticed but can make all the difference
Its innocence, when were little we dont know anything.... We see the sky, the flowers, the world itself as a blessing. But as the time goes on we forget about how beautiful this world is, and suddenly everything turns gray and empty.... But we can still change that... a flower is something that worth cherishing even if a flower just a simple existence. 😊
"I'm still here" and "I'll be alive next year" really touches my soul. Especially at the end, that's the part that always makes me shed some tears.

Tbh, if you look at it on a universal scale, the chances of us being alive were almost none but here we are as humans, in a universe that's basically a void of silence, we have emotions in this world. With life being such a rare occurance itself, Porter is able to bring more soul into it with the music, imagine how many people would have their day made by this song. People say how we're too small and insignificant to the universe but if you change your perspective, is anyone else in the universe able to look at the sky? None that we know of. It's beautiful how Porter can inspire so many lives, something so rare and special. Thank you for everything Porter.
I love that you made an inspirational comment that has merit; that's a really interesting way of looking at this song.

Porter's music on Worlds stopped me from killing myself when I was a teenager and showed me how to handle my own mental illness better. Showed me how much beauty there is in the world and in myself.
Nurture, more specifically, this song, shows me why I'm so incredibly grateful I decided to stay all those years ago.

Please stay with us, your poetry skills are too good...
This might get lost in the flood of comments, but I have to say that this song just made me heal a massive part of my childhood trauma and connect with it on a whole different level.
I used to live out in the country, in a tiny house on a wheat field that grew flowers. It had an unhindered view of the sky and I walked that field every single day. I was home schooled, and a Jehovah's Witness (grew up in the religion) so I had no outside friends my age, and the ones I did have were turning into assholes quickly. We were below the poverty line, so we never went out anywhere asides from essentials and the meetings. I was a single child, and my mother had clinical depression, and my dad had bipolar. My whole home life was shaky, and I had nowhere to go.
But outside.
I looked up to the sky every day of my life under that roof, the blooming fields in front of me and the vast sky above. I would listen to music and draw in the sun. It was my home, my safe place, and in a sense, my friend. Watching the sky every single day, seeing a never ending pallet and vibrancy. Looking to the sky means so much more to me than I think he realized when he wrote this song.
Thank you for this, from the bottom of my heart.
I love that everyone who loves this song has a unique story about why they love it and what it means to them, ranging from "I just like it" to a deeply personal and moving story like yours. I'm glad you shared this.

the same here...
enjoy ! it's been 3 years for me and I love it even more than when I discovered it because his music follows you, wherever you go
I discovered his stuff years ago, but it didn't really interest me. The album art on his "Worlds" intrigued me. I looked into it again and am so glad I did! And I actually prefer this video to the original.
I think this song reminds us of the cheerfulness, optimisim and forward-orientation of our younger, more innocent selves. And how (since let's be honest, none of us leave life without at least a couple of scars) the struggles of life that we endure through living cause us to grow with this mindset of captivation - we can feel much less hopeful, much less optomistic, much less that playful, adventurous spirit that once had bright visions for the world. For those of us who are in a state of little to no hope, where we feel like our lives don't have meaning and that something is wrong with us and therefore think we can't be better, this song tries to be a "mantra", as Porter Robinson wrote in the description, that there is good reason to hope, and that you are still that beautiful vessel of creation and are capable of more things than you deem yourself to be capable of.
Thank you for the beautiful song, Porter :)
I saw it more as that like unsettling relief and exhaustion after leaving a depression state, like its still lingering but you finally have something of purpose or at the very least something to try and are clearly not at rock bottom anymore mentally
It's so pleasant to see Porter Robinson's style change over the years.

The overall visual design for Nurture with this juxtaposition of digital shapes and beautiful nature scenery is one of the coolest aesthetics I've ever seen. Porter this album is beautiful both sonically and visually, I absolutely cannot wait to hear the full thing.
Imagine what the liveshow is gonna be like though with this aesthetic though. Cannot wait for April 23rd
For me, It's a comment on how something (an emotion, a revelation, empathy) can be produced from artifical means and still have as much meaning as something that was produced organically. Just think of how electronic music is often considered "unnatural" or "less than" because it's not made with physical instruments and yet so many people feel seen and understood by the genre.
@@Aadams2424 Spot-on. Just because something is artificially produced doesn't it make it any less organic. There is still an element of the creator's soul poured into the process and outcome. With EDM, since so many sounds are produced and tweaked to such detail I believe it's one of the most revealing genres.
April can't come fast enough to listen through all of Nurture.
@@Shosui 😊🙏🏻❤
@@Shosui Absolutely. Electronic music has so much potential for conveying emotion. Owl City was one of the first artists I know of that took advantage of that. His music would often convey complex human emotion in a very artificial genre, and it captivated me. Porter is taking this concept to new levels by actively clashing nature and artificiality together to evoke strong emotions and convey meaningful messages about life. I don’t think a single artist has made me feel anywhere near this much in just 4 songs.
I am so not ready for all 14 songs, but boy do I look forward to them.

This entire album is a fucking gift to humanity
I had a very bad trauma in my memories that I don't want to speak but it's the reasons that I'm been so depress for like five years now. Since then I can't even cry anymore even how sad the situation is. My other emotions are gone and it's replace by sadness, It's look like I'm happy but deep down a smiley mask is only sadness that I can't explain to anyone. But what can I do, I always smile with my friends and my family but no one know how I am inside of the one who smile all the time to hide how broken he was. I told you I'm just a smiling walking corpse. When in front of other I always be lively but when I'm alone I always depress af.

Remember that when you feel as if nobody cares? That if you're always going to be alone?
Always look to the sky. And then remember your friends will always be there.
"I'm still here."
You're never truly alone.
This song is a masterpiece. He teases us with hints of the instrumental melody at the end of each chorus. Then in the final chorus he gives us the full melody, but it's over a driving beat that begs for stability.
It's not until 4:19 after the final chorus that we FINALLY get what we want musically: the full melody, with full supporting instrumentation, over the stable familiar beat. And the rapid, beautiful visuals enhance the feeling of finally reaching that place of wonder and opportunity - "I can make something good".
I cried. This song is a masterpiece. It's just so rare to see this type of delayed gratification executed so masterfully.
In a weird way, the delayed gratification kind of reminds me of the second drop on Fellow Feeling when we finally get the full everything :)
He does this quite a lot actually, really love when he did it in divinity. great technique!
I think you've hit on precisely what I felt like was missing from Porter's original secret sky preview-- the variation and buildup really help cement the melody as something special, whereas in the preview version it feels like the gratification was almost given to us too easily because the first and second halves of the song used to be a lot more similar. And as you said, Porter handles this back-and-forth teasing with absolute mastery.
I was waiting the whole time for the final drop and I got so many chills over my body when it finally came
When he said "ill be alive next year" something in me snapped. Ive been so down on myself. Thanks for giving me something to listen to
I have a special connection to this song through a moped I bought. It was my first big purchase I made with my own money and on my own. The title was not in his name and being a dumb high schooler, I didn't even think about checking that. So he technically had no legal ownership of the bike or the right to sell it to me. It would have been completely fine if he didn't sign his name in the seller spot with the signature of the title holder as well. The DMV said I was out of luck and long story short the guy I bought it from was uncooperative and I was broken. This song helped me calm down while there is my first big purchase that I have no actual way of using. Then a bunch of things start to go wrong with it mechanically wise. My dad helps me find a potential loophole through the DMV of Vermont and I now have a renewed hope. Again, playing this song, I began to fix up the moped. I made that thing as good as new, at least mechanically. And what do you know the Vermont registration came in the mail not to long after! I was over the moon. My moped was now legal to go on the road and no cop could say otherwise. This song was what helped me through every stage of this nightmare. Buying, breaking, registering, and repairing. It will always be the song of my moped. Its a little 1980 Honda Express in Banana Yellow if anyone is wondering. In conclusion, check titles, screw you Dan, and this song is a banger.

Congrats on getting your moped fixed! I’m so proud of you!
Have to say, i thought the music was late or advanced and my laptop was being buggy- but no,
it was just Porter Robinson being Porter Robinson, the mad man.
Nurture is about to be the best album of the year
@AP Carlos 10000vr He was gonna release it last year but he took most of the year to add some stuff and refine the album to the quality it’s gonna be released in April
@AP Carlos 10000vr Nurture's gonna be 14 tracks. Then yea, we've got a lot of tracks coming on april
“Ill be alive next year” Really hits hard for people especially when we are going through hard times,,

This song makes me promise to myself.
Next year. I'll be alive until next year.
''And suddenly, I've restored your faith in me'' Porter, nobody has ever lost it in you my guy :) You're an incredible artist, a gem among them, truly. Every song you create makes people better, make their day, save their lives or simply made them remember something nice. I'll always listen to your music, and I'm sure so will many. Please remain yourself, and you'll be surrounded by us who will love you unconditionally.
"I will be much better then. and suddenly, I've restored your faith in me."
holy shit
Haha
ITS HERE MY DEPRESSION IS CURED
Porter Robinson deserves every award imaginable for the masterpieces he keeps releasing. Genuine, vulnerable, moving, inspiring work
It's amazing how everyone has their own stories of overcoming obstacles and is listening to the same song
“I’m still here and I’ll be alive next year.” really hits me because I’ve definitely had those intrusive thoughts about me being better off dead and having a song to uplift me really helps and motivates me.
"I'll be alive next year"
I had planned to end my life before 2021 started. This song gives me so much hope things will be okay if I keep holding on. I hope everyone who feels the same can keep holding on.
Stay strong! Things will get better!
You got this bb!!! And thank you!
Ending life is not the option... it's never the option...eat sleep and jerk i mean work...
Hang in there love 💕

I used to be a fan but after hearing this I'm a whole air conditioner.

This is the worse joke I've ever read, I snorted I love you for it
I would like to have a permission slip that signs ownership of this joke to me for a single day to annoy my best friend

“look at the sky I’m still here, I’ll be alive next year..” every time I cry. I know it’s coming..it’s just the emotional impact. Someone having to say that.
Porter's music has this strange healing effect that I personally can't find other musicians being able to reproduce.
Each release from Nurture has had me in tears with their vulnerability and beauty.
Thank you for healing everything, Porter.🕊️
The sky’s looking awfully blurry while listening to this song

Why is rain falling while the sky is clear?
It's a terrible day for rain.

i gotta admit, i like how his style changes from album to album, worlds will always be my favorite, but nurture is great, and it wouldnt have been if it was a worlds , i like how he doesnt stay the same
Me and my family have been through a rough patch. One of my immediate family members died in the beginning of 2020. We have moved to two houses under one year. My dog recently went missing but the overwhelming support from my best friend has helped me so much. He has always had my back no matter what and keeps me motivated to continue the fight. Travis , if you see this thank you so much.
You can hear how much he has perfected his art in this song, this is the pinnacle of music and I'm not changing my mind.
You need to cut back on the drugs. This ain’t that great, it’s just ok, especially compared to his earlier tracks.
@@criticalma5547 well certainly the ones earlier were more lyrics oriented but I prefer this as a music oriented song

One of the best animated films of all time. It was an utter travesty that it never even got nominated for an Oscar.

I SECOND THIS
Ya’ll, I’m literally crying reading these comments about your lives 🥺 I first got into Porter with Language, as many did, then Worlds came out and I was hooked. I think he definitely hit on something rare and universally human that few musicians ever manage. Now for my own story.
My mom died when I was 13, my dad got remarried a year later and both our families moved from small towns to this huge area. I’ve struggled for years to make sense of my life, wondering who I’m striving to make proud anymore, whether all my efforts with writing novels and making electronic music will lead anywhere. I miss the closeness I used to have with my dad. I wasted my 20’s looking for love, going from toxic guy to toxic guy, looking for something pure and true and honest. I suffer from depression, I’ve been used by people, I’m 34 and it feels like my life is going nowhere a lot of times. I dragged myself out of alcoholism last year and no longer drink following a DUI and horrible experiences with anxiety, but I paid everything off, I got a promotion at work, things started looking up. Then COVID hit, and I feel more alone and isolated now than ever. I think a lot of us do. But in that, I did cut off a person who drained my spirit for four long years, and I feel more free, started writing again and doing things for myself. I met someone who loves me and makes me happy, but he’s in another state so it’s still a struggle. Can’t wait to meet him this year hopefully and make epic music together. Life is a battle, no doubt. But Porter’s music has gotten me through so much, and continues to influence my own. 💚
I wish you all the best, and please continue looking to the sky and saying “I’m still here”. 💚🙌
For some reason this song reminds me of the first time I listened to shelter.
this could be the most important album ever produced in electronic music. it has so many important lessons for artists from an an artist who fought and defeated failure. the muses didn't leave, you are not worthless, your ideas are worth time, you deserve rest, food, love and friends even tho you didn't write a masterpiece today. and most importantly, you'll be alive next year too.
well said!
This is the direction I would love to see electronic music head in. The popular electronic music of the EDM era is good, but this is on another level. It has a renewed, raw, honest feeling to it. It’s rough around the edges, but not in an unfinished sort of sense, but rather a very intentional, stylistic sense that really evokes deep emotion. This album is set to be massively influential with its very meaningful lyrics, brilliant melodies, and perfect balance between perfection and imperfection.
Thank you, this is inspiring, especially for me as an artist who goes through thought rollercoasters. Always going to love Porter Robinson's inspiring music.

This appeared during the last minutes of the Secret Sky Set. "I'll be alive next year", are the words I remembered while listening to those last minutes of the set. I kept repeating and repeating that in my head whenever I think of dying. I can happily say, I'm alive this year and I survived my depression last year. Hopefully, this year is gonna be great. Thanks Porter for always making these great songs.
Okay hyunsuk's recommendation is a banger i love this song 💜💜💜💜
Big Thx Choi Hyunsuk Treasure to recommended this amazing song💙
You've spoken so much about how you feel you could never create anything as good as Worlds and how Nurture has been your journey to discovering you can. That this song is about accepting you can make something good. Only a small number of us are artistic creators like you, but I think most of us are creators in something - creating content for work, creating a new day, creating a new life with someone. Whatever it is we're creating, it's so easy to fall into "this isn't good enough, why even bother." You have such a gift for taking such a simple sentiment "I can make something good," adding only a few repetitive lyrics, and making music that matches that feeling. The sadness wrapped in optimism.
I don't think I've ever heard an artist who so clearly captures that feeling again and again. I feel like I'm going to need to block out a week for the Nurture release.
Thank you for accurately depicting what so many of us wanted to say but simply didn't know how to.
Brilliant comment right there.
I'm not crying, you're crying.
😭♥️
Yes I am, but so are you
"Wait again, I will be much better then..."
"I'm still here, I'll be alive next year, I can make something good."
You don't have to wait for everything to be okay. You don't have to wait to help yourself all the ways you can, and you don't have to wait until you're ready to do amazing things, because then you never will. You'll never be ready... Or maybe, you already are.
When I first heard this song, I thought it is "I can make something good, im something good" and even if thats not how the song actually goes, im happy my brain decided to tell me that I'm good, too
Porter's music is just so unique and inspiring, it cannot be compared to any other artist, he'd just created and developed his own amazing style
It's genuine. He's not trying to sell you something... he's making the music he wants to and thinks he should
"but then, something must have changed in me , i don't fear it anymore"
This bring joy to my soul thanks porter ♡
Porter, you probably won’t see this, but thank you for this song. I’ve listened to it so many dozens of times and it’s hard to estimate how much it’s helped me over the last year. Every time I’m feeling cornered by life this song reminds me that I’ll make it through okay. And as a creative person who constantly falls short of my own expectations, I needed to hear that “I can make something good” line.
Your music is one of the best things that’s happened to me recently, so thank you.
