OKC will be a lottery team for the foreseeable future with a bunch of 1st round picks they are now officially in rebuild mode.
85jmurk It has worked for them before. Before they came to Oklahoma City, they drafted KD, and started to build from there. With one of the best GMs in the NBA, I don’t see why it can’t work. Based on name alone, someone will bring in Paul, even with the burdensome contract. A team like Miami, even with Butler’s massive contract, will want CP3.
1 year in, and you’ve already tossed up a bigger brick than Russell Westbrook with that trade.

Revisiting this trade 3 years later and OKC definitely won that trade. Westbrook’s stock has been dropping lower and lower while CP3 stock is still pretty much the same which is higher than Westbrook.

Harden and Westbrook are two excelent players that people hate alot, for no reason, just because they are very good in things that they do. Everyone talking about ball hogging and lack of playmaking. Y’all just have a lack of knowledge. He averaged 10.7 assists per game with guys who bricked too much. Both of these guys have average 10 assists per game in at least 2 seasons. Both of these guys are triple double machines. They have great playmaking that can make role players on the Rockets score 10-15 points per game consistently because Houston has sharpshooters. I respect CP3 and thank him for his attempt to run for the championship, but we really needed to unload his contract

Westbrook needs to be the point guard and harden the shooting guard. It will fit much better. Russ can’t shoot. If Russ is off the ball this will not work. I’m not saying Harden needs to take a step back. He doesn’t and shouldn’t. And he should still be the superstar of this team. But he needs to play more off the ball for it to work the best. Go rockets. I like Westbrook and happy he’s on a contending team. And I’ve always been a harden fan. Hope this works out

if anything, let'see teams try to play entirely BEHIND harden, taking everything we have known about fundamental individual and team defense since the dinosaurs were around and turning it on its head, topping it off by having 2-3 other guys completely sagging off their men and just watching harden and sitting there like ambush predators ready to pounce into passing lanes. Harden will be far more free to do his thing, imo.
Cp3 played a lot of 'staggered' minutes with Harden, and I'm assuming RW and Harden will play more time together . You cannot double team Harden anymore. Already considered a 1-on-1 mount rushmore-type... this could be deadly.
And I was impressed with how good of a pick and roll player Stephen Adams developed into ... you need a brisk, athletic big man who is fleet of foot and relatively versatile and athletic to run it at an elite level. After watching them more closely, it turned out that RW ran it beautifully, and that lumbering, unwieldy, Paul-Bunyan mother fucker became adept at connecting on lobs and/or paving lanes for drivers and screening for kicks.
When God or Nature or randomness and chance or whatever else was in the process of putting Clint Capela's molecules together, his intention was to build the perfect 21st century pick-and-roll, rim-protecting/rebounding/floor-running big... and they got pretty close. Capela is going to have a lot of fun this year.
The biggest thing: RW actually plays most games. CP3 missed way too much time, and he was no longer capable of doing back-to-backs. That's a lot of money to invest in a player that is there to show off expensive suits and dress shoes on the bench.
