    We've been making these for years and we always use a car valve stem and drill a hole through a regular soda bottle in and then fill them to about 90PSI and have never had a problem with one failing.. You have four out of six of these things that are failing but yet you said you trust these more than doing the homemade drill a hole in a soda bottle technique but I trust the homemade way way better than this ..

    Transporting an overpressurized soda bottle in a vehicle would be dangerous to your hearing if it let go inside with the windows closed. Only pressurize them at time of use for safety. The noise they make depends on how the bottle ruptures. Some are very loud, others not. Smaller bottles are much less likely to work well. The DIY caps seem to be stronger than these particular commercial units.

    if done correctly the diy way is the strongest and can be the cheapest of all the options, but it's more work and has to be done correctly. it needs to be said that even though done correctly the diy way is stronger, all the methods, including the store bought ones, do have risk.
    Number 1 rule, without exception under no circumstances do you ever fill, handle or allow another person to be in the immediate area of a pressurized soda bottle without enclosed ear protection, the $4 WESTERN SAFETY Ear Muffs from harbor freight are fine, just NO EAR PLUGS, it needs to be protection that cups over ears to block the pressure wave should the bottle burst. I can confirm first hand, anyone in the vicinity without ear protection when a pressurized bottle bursts will suffer busted ear drums, trust me, i know first hand what happens and how many years it takes to fully heal, if they heal.......

However the homemade ones that you're afraid to do it yourself work better than what you got there long as you're using the right bottle cuz I've used some thin bottles and blew them up trying to air him up however the homemade ones I do believe are better than that Chinese crap.

    I've been using the tire valve stem and pop bottles for a while now. I got the idea from The King of Random: czcams.com/video/7rDRFFSUrPI/video.html I found the water bottles would fail at 60 psi, so switched to pop bottles, which I can pump up to 100 psi. I have discovered that the lower velocity rounds, and even air rifle pellets worked better. I did shoot them with my .223, and it just punched holes through them without any explosion. The best reaction yet is fill it 3/4 full of water and use a hollow point. The only problem is finding the darn caps and valve stems after the blast;). And at $.15 per stem from my neighbor's tire shop, it's far cheaper than any commercial product I've seen.

    Willing to bet that the original bottle lids are stronger. Also I wouldn't waste time drilling and inserting some kind of valve...id just put a small chip of dry ice in it and screw the original lid back on. You'll figure out about how much it takes real quick... Maybe even measure it.

    • @m.s.l.7746
      @m.s.l.7746 Před 7 lety

      Michael Bell yes, but it's usually made to explode all by itself by adding too much ice and a little water, then throwing it and getting away from it until It blows. sometimes when you don't put enough dry ice, it requires quite a bit of encouragement to blow, such as shooting it.
      I would put a very small amount of dry ice in them and set them up out in your yard/range to let the ice evaporate and pressurize the plastic cylinder. But, start out small and work your way up if you plan on letting it completely evaporate inside and sit. Since too much will rupture the bottle automatically.
      safest way would be...
      make them up at the range or desired place of use and put them down range before they get pressurized... Then always shoot before approaching until you figure out how much it takes. Keep track of about how much goes into each bottle at first, so you can judge by the reaction when shoot if there was enough pressure... And if the bottle starts swelling up or ruptures, then your putting too much.
      Little more experimenting up front, but once you figure out the amount of ice to use (minus a little to be safe) then you have a lifetime of fun without all the headache of modifying them.

      @m.s.l.7746 Před 7 lety

      D Sloop as long as your not using them on public property, or pestering people / using them in a irresponsible manner then it should be fine. (kinda like shooting firearms)

    thunder caps are a waste of money, you can do the same thing for free only way better. motorcycle tubes have threaded valve stems, i go get the trashed tubes from the dumpster at the local motorcycle shop, i cut the valve stem out of the tube and cut out 2 small circular gaskets out of the remaining tube carcass, drill a small hole in the bottle cap, push the threaded valve stem through with one of the gaskets, slide the other gasket down the stem with a washer followed by threading the nut you removed from the stem in the beginning back down the valve stem and tighten with a wrench to seal it all. I usually run between 90-100 psi in the bottles but even at that pressure getting them to actually explode is hit or miss. if you want them to explode every time you have to prep the bottle but DO NOT prep with the bottle under full pressure. put about 10 psi in the bottle then with a razor knife make light crisscrossing score marks up and down the smooth part of the bottle, you just want to score the surface layer of the plastic, once your done go fill to pressure and when you hit it with a flat or round nose pellet is will explode at a level equal to a .45 or shotgun shot so it will hurt your ears pretty bad if you are too close. and you need to tether the bottle or you wont find your valve afterwords and if you wrap the cap tightly with electrical tape you will get 4-5 explosions out of it but if you don't use tape then be prepared to make a new pressure cap after every shot because the cap will blow to pieces if you're running the pressure i do......
    ps. for some visual to go with the boom put 1 cup of corn starch, talcum powder, or powdered chalk in the bottle before you pressurize is, flour and other powders are to heavy to look realistic, those 3 will vaporize and go up like smoke when the bottle explodes.....

      doing this creates hydrogen gas, while the bottle will pop just like pressurized air, if there happens to be any flames, sparks, static electricity present you will have an actual explosion. also, I'm not sure what the auto ignition parameters would be for pressurizing hydrogen gas in a bottle that already has oxygen in it. just be careful and maybe just stick with baking soda and vinegar.
