    Fun fact about the R-73M, the AAM-3 we have in game should actually have very similar performance to it, even without the thrust vectoring it has similar offboresight capabilities and range.
    Edit: Also on the aam-5B, the reason the seeker has better flare resistence is due to it having a dual band IIR seeker, which is as far as i know the only IR missile currently to exist that has one, so its flare resistence wouldnt just be a bit higher, it should in theory be almost completely unflareable, the only way to do so with any hope of success would be to have your engine off for prolong periods of time, however even then, the missile can actually be guided in via datalink, sure its not as accurate, but it is possible (japan's native datalink is significantly better then the US datalink 15)

    • @Will_Is_Awesome
      @Will_Is_Awesome  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Yeah I at least new about the range of the AAM-3, mostly due to its low drag and it has pretty good energy retention

    • @user-Xx0xxxxx
      @user-Xx0xxxxx Před 3 měsíci +5

      @@Will_Is_Awesome honestly its energy retention in turns should be a fair bit lower then it is in game, due to it pulling more AoA in turns then is modeled in game, so it really only competes in either range or offboresight, not both at the same time

    • @KozenX
      @KozenX Před 3 měsíci

      @@user-Xx0xxxxxrange and the capability to maneuver is mostly separately designed by Gaijin in game and while they do have to do a lot with the how much range a missile can pull, it still depends on the scenario the missile is launched.
      Overall though the booster range and thrust are also designed separately and also have to do with the maximum range and effects how much range the missile will have depending on the scenario it is launched. There are a lot of parameters that have to do with the modeling of these missiles but AoA doesn’t follow dictate the range in which these missiles will have.

    • @KozenX
      @KozenX Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@user-Xx0xxxxxalso in mention to the R-73M to the AAM-3 the key difference with the thrust vectoring is that it can pull its maneuverability almost instantaneously off the rail vs having to accumulate wing/fin AoA from gaining speed.
      In stark contrast you have the R-73/M simply turning its motor nozzles in the direction it’s wishing to maneuver to, it don’t need fin authority and speed to maneuver more because it’s simply being thrusted in its proper vector.
      The AAM-3 can’t adjust its nozzle so in order to achieve the desired maneuverability compared to the R-73, it needs to achieve a certain speed and then have it’s fin AoA at maximum plane, this takes distance and while it “can” possibly have similar maneuverability due to speculation, there is just such a big difference in capability in having thrust vectoring or not.

    • @user-Xx0xxxxx
      @user-Xx0xxxxx Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@KozenX I mean yeah it won't pull as hard off the rail, but the AAM-3 is actually a bit special compared to basically any missile that came before it, so when i said it has high AOA, i mean like, really high, like it turns the entire missile to face the direction it wants to turn, instead of applying a force to change it's direction and having it face in the direction of travel, this means it honestly performs closer to a thrust vectoring missile then not, outside of the like sub 150 meter range, but like... most missiles IRL have an arming distance longer then that so that doesn't matter, but gaijin doesn't really care about arming distance except when they do

    Dont forget the iris-t has been touted to shoot down other a2a missiles, and is one of the few missiles to use a 128x4 fpa scanned by 60 degrees, giving it virtually unparalleled resistance against lasers and spectral flares, since the seeker blocks out the interference from flare blinding!

    Some of your info was slightly off. The MICA IR has a reduced from the MICA EM because of the thermal imager having a curved nose instead of the EM's cone which results in higher drag and a range of 60km rather than 80. The IRIS-T has G pull estimates everywhere but the only reliable number is about 60G. As for the 9X it doesnt have lofting in its software but can be manually lofted by the pilot using the LOAL on the blk2.

    • @Will_Is_Awesome
      @Will_Is_Awesome  Před 3 měsíci +4

      From what I’ve been able to find the 9X Block 2 had a software upgrade in 2017 that gave it lofting. Didn’t know about the IRIS-T but the only sources I found were saying 100G, but we’ll never really know I guess

    • @KozenX
      @KozenX Před 3 měsíci +3

      Most sources don’t really throw out the right information, most is speculation or rough estimates from the brochures the manufacturers have released.
      For the most part the manufacturers give out information of the capabilities and some specifics like 360 degree attack/launch capabilities and maximum range. For MICAs the range is 60-80km due to altitude, the IRs and EMs having different cones doesn’t really change much in range due to drag but frontal drag coefficient but this doesn’t take away much and only comes into larger effect until the missiles in maneuvering heavily.
      As for the IRIS-Ts overload limit, there is no reliable number, there’s only ever been articles in mention of IRIS-Ts full specifications but these are just speculation, even most articles don’t mention the specific G limitations of the missile and just mention that it has 360 degree of launch capability.

      I figured that the figure of 100g was a way too high. What changed in engineering for missiles that for around 50 years had a max g pull of around 40-50g to suddenly get double that ? Sounds like a lot of marketing fluff to me...

      Problem is you can't realistically do that, see, as Will said, those missiles use infrared imaging sensors, pretty much like modern anti tank fire and forget missiles they lock on to the shape of the target, not the strongest heat signature, therefore flares are out of the question when it comes to countermeasures, modern day approach consist of either jamming the wez (weapon engagement zone aka being too far or too close to your opponent) or beat the missile cinematically.
      TL:DR your countermeasure in future top tier matches should be to fly good and fire first :/

    • @KozenX
      @KozenX Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@Certified_MoaiGamingthe thing is there is also IR jamming equipment and the new found capabilities of Fox-3s, if Gaijin makes these missiles all essentially strong where you don’t wish to get close to the enemy’s side or position badly then that isn’t a bad thing.
      Positioning will be more important and Fox-3s can still have a place if multipathing isn’t implemented into their parameters and you will definitely not wish to get hit by those then. Overall keeping distance and taking map authority when possible may slowly become the main objective of the match.
