About The Daily Show:
Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. The Daily Show redefined the late night show category on TV and, with an audience of over 51M across social media platforms, has become a launching pad for some of the biggest stars in entertainment.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central.
Am a 67 year old boomer and Jon and the Daily Show are the best of what Cable TV has to offer for the last 25 years
Isn't Oliver still cable too?
I am a 75 year old and I fully agree.
Trevor Noah now has "What's next?" podcast. Well traveled, multilingual and extremely eloquent, his observations are still available.
I think Jon Stewart & John Oliver are more or less on par from different perspectives. Both Brilliant
I am 3 years old and want my mommy
In 1998 when Jon came to the Daily Show, I was 14 years old. You'll think this is terrible, Jon, but frankly, you helped raise me. You kept me sane through seeing what was happening in the world, and helped me learn how to react and handle tragedy with common sense and action, and that we absolutely should never stop demanding better from our leaders. It means SO MUCH to me that you're back, even if it's just Mondays.

Unfortunately, it is now easier in the USA to have a positive effect by remaining outside the Machine and to keep throwing wrenches into its works. That is what Jon does.

Just like Trevor with "between the scenes". I like it as well.
Check out Jon's podcast. It comes out once a week and he has unscripted conversations with some pretty interesting and intelligent people. It's free on Spotify and probably the other streaming services.
"Action cures anxiety." Got it.
Yep
It definitely does, but laziness is the killer of action.
Jon Stewart is just so connected to the ground it’s calming to see. I think we’re all happy he’s back. It’s what the world needed ✌️💯
He was too ambiguous about it. Anxiety felt in times we are actually safe is often due to reliving past trauma or imagining future trauma that stops us from being present in our lives, and recognizing our personal choices and determining how to keep ourselves safe and thriving. Takeing action is something that can only be done in the present moment, and so by design it's a product of staying present and situational-self aware and recognizing how to improve our lives and those around us. Over time, this does contribute to reducing anxiety in my experience, and through my education background BA in psychology.
It's a great motivator too.
Jon’s return to The Daily Show continues to be the best thing on Late Night, maybe all of TV. Action is the antidote to anxiety is so wise.Kurt Vonnegut was beyond visionary
"Optimistic cynical humanism." that is totally Jon's brand and why i love him. Gotta dig out my Vonnegut and put it where my kids can reach!
Heinlein and Vonnegut taught me more about life than I can ever quantify.

Thank ya kindly
Love Jon Stewart for his incredible work and tireless dedication to his beliefs
Vonnegut is the most beautiful person to put pen to paper and his soul taps out so understandably to tell the people the most important philosophical truths of our time
Both do it with the most delicious humor I for which I am forever famished
My favorite ever was when Vonnegut reveals himself to his sad, recurring character Kilgore Trout. Vonnegut tells him that he is setting him free, in much the same way that Leo Tolstoy freed his serfs, and that the rest of his life will be much happier: his work will be republished by reputable publishers, and his ideas will become very influential, leading to him winning the Nobel Prize for medicine.
I would say Terry Pratchett books, for the same reasons he gave for Kurt Vonnegut, but I also agree with his choice of Vonnegut❤
@fjonaford8956 OH man, Sir Terry blows me over. Just finished Small Gods. I've never read Vonnegut - maybe I should try him next!
"We always think that the world is at it's worst in the moment that we're in it, but you have to remain optimistic, because the images that they present to us are to heighten your fear"
I couldn't think of anything else I agree with more than that sentence. Real.
Jon Stewart is the uncle I always wish I had.
Words of wisdom - with humour! - no one would ever accept from their dad.

I just quote: "Remain optimistic -
Trust your discomfort, because you clearly feel it. But discomfort is a wonderful motivator. It's sort of the difference between stress and anxiety.
And if you feel anxiety it will lessen as you take action, small actions, like a little bit every day."
I love this quote because it’s true. If we could only get the youth of today, facing so much adversity on so many levels, to believe in the power they have to lesson their own anxiety plus that of others.
So vote for Pres. Harris!

Lol. Right, Jon stewert not pointing out just how Un democratic it is to oust biden and anoint a historicaly unpopular politician as the dem. Nominee is the last bastion of truth and reality.
Love that he went to Vonnegut as his favourite author., I’m one year younger than Jon, and he described Vonnegut's outlook, philosophy and sense of humour perfectly. Jon is the best commentator of our day.
A youngster asked me why I had so many books. I had to explain that before the internet, if you needed the answer to anything, it was either the library or the books on your shelves that had the answer.
Don’t just sit there. DO SOMETHING. Discomfort is a terrific motivator. And I know that the kids are alright.
do something , start eat salads and stand on a treadmill. Maybe ?
Do something, and don't get caught up in silver bullets. If you're only ever voting in presidential elections and skipping everything else between you as a citizen and that office, of course you're gonna feel distracted by how perfectly a candidate matches your opinions. You aren't going to get one perfect candidate to make your vote feel so effective that you can go back to ignoring politics for another four years. You've gotta make the most effective choice for yourself at every level and help push the whole machine into a direction you'll feel better about.
Every time I see someone talk about third party candidates and getting really defensive about the symbolism of their vote, these are people who don't participate in any of the other election cycles. They're only thinking in terms of the one big play and their dissatisfaction with the plays available to them. You'll feel that a lot less when you realize government is bigger than just the white house.
And one thing is for absolute certain: no PRESIDENT is going to make ranked choice or approval voting happen on their own. That's going to happen at the representative level if it ever happens at all. You want a third party vote to be more than a protest nobody cares about? Start at the bottom, not the top.

Jon, Thank you so much for making kids feel heard and protected. Its scary for all of us, but sometimes kids don't tell us how afraid they really are. Some of them have parents who are in a cult, and this has to be difficult, and confusing for them. You are a beautiful human ❤🤍💙
he makes kids feel heard and RESPECTED. so many young people are lacking respect from their parents, grandparents, and other adults in their community. children are a reflection of how they were raised, if you don't feel the kids around you are worth your respect, what does that say about how you raised them?
Scary. Scarry is something VERY different 😉

Jon gives the best realistic advice. What I mean is it’s thoughtful and honest. After Trump won in 2016, in so many words Jon comforted me. He said democracy and our history wasn’t easy. He also said in so many words that OUR story wasn’t over, that we need to keep working hard for the future we want. I’ve never forgotten that, and we need this reminder.
4:44 I loved Vonnegut as a kid and was stoked to meet him in college when he spoke on campus. Always clever, often wry, and very endearing, in person and in print.
Kurt Vonnegut is a legend. One of the greatest American writers we've ever had. He's like the Mark Twain of the 20th century. RIP.
I'm a 60 yr old woman. I'm ashamed to say that I went through my life, not exercising my right to vote. I felt the same way a lot of these young people feel. I wasn't happy with the candidates, so I didn't vote. Then 2016 happened. Please, please, please, don't let Trump back in office. It's would be a catastrophic mistake! Get out.. vote blue! Do it for all of us! 🇺🇲💙
I have Allways voted . If u don't vote then u deserve what u get that u don't like
Nice to know Jon Stewart was/is a Vonnegut fan. Vonnegut was one of the truly great.
Dear 18-25 year olds:
Your vote does matter, so use it.
My vote (50+) only echoes in the ears of the politicians.
Your vote (and voice) scares them and moves them into action.
You are strong.
Be bold.
You are so right!! Their votes matter the most right now.
Actualy the 50+ is the biggest voting group and single handedly decided elections. So make sure you and YOUR friends vote too.
Nancy and Mitch being moved into action is something I'd love to see, and yet am equally horrified to think of.
ALL our votes matter. What Jon was saying was that our eyes on ads don't matter as we get older, but our VOTES still do. Once you've made that vote, no one knows if it's from an 18 yr old or an 80 yr old. GO VOTE, EVERYONE.
This isn’t the only video I’ve seen of Jon answering a similar question. I love that he never tires (or never seems to) of guiding young people. Motivating them to vote, or take action. While at the same time, he’s not taking up too much space in the discourse.
In the early 1990s, I used to pass by people on campus in Madison, Wisconsin putting up fake shanty towns to dramatize the racist apartheid in South Africa. I read about boycotts, divestment strategies, famous artists boycotting South Africa. And I cynically wondered if any of that would make any difference. And it did!! It took decades of pressure from outside countries to help the anti-apartheid fighters to end arpartheid in Africa, but their activism definitely worked.
We had to be present - in the moment - in the place. We had to write in newspapers. We had contact our congressmen and women (few they were) We had to get on the ground and talk to people. Today these people can get on their phone. They get a voice we never felt like we had. And we should do every thing in our power to encourage them to fight for what they believe in. 👊
@@kjpcgaming9296 Thank you for all the work you did. You made a difference in the world and helped end so much suffering. In terms of youth energy, I have done other activism, and it was definitely easier when I was young and could easily visit a congressperson's office, or participate in a protest rally. And as a former sociology professor, I just really enjoy hearing how college age students see their world and their place and role in society.

0:23 She's 22, she don't what Thunderdome is 😂
Or that life isn't fair, or that sometimes you have to deal with the lesser of two evils. She was apparently too young to remember the Eternal Waking Nightmare that the Trump administration was, otherwise she wouldn't have asked such a dumb question.
You play the cards that you are dealt. Is Harris my #1 choice? Nope. Someone like Ike would be my #1 choice, and he's not showing up any time soon. Life isn't Burger King: You don't always get it your way. Too much coddling and too many participation trophies have insulated the young from that fact.
That is exactly what popped into my head. She for sure searched it
Wonderful advice that most if not all people need to hear, Thanks Jon
Very rarely you get the candidate you want. Sometimes the choice comes down to 'not great', and the 'end of democracy'.
shouldn't be that way though, and it doesn't have to
Most times.
Harris is so much better than “not great”. Maybe she’s no Obama, but neither was Biden. Biden did great, but he is certainly past his time. He is no longer great, but has a wonderful legacy. This rallying around Harris is fantastic.
Tweedledum or Tweedledee as they were saying 56 years ago.
Tweedledee or tweedledom, which is the least offensive one
1. Stop waiting for society to solve your problems. 2. Vote instead of sitting out, even if the candidate isn't perfect-no one ever is. 3. Understand that being heard doesn't always mean getting your way. 4. Accept that your generation isn't facing more challenges than those before you; every generation encounters difficulties, but the goal is to overcome them. 5. Empower yourself by refusing to play the victim.
We have to play the long game. Just keep voting for progressive candidates that believe in women's rights, protecting the environment and supporting the working class.
"We have to play the long game."

No Mike, it's not enough. It's a long game that's lasted for generations already and it keeps walking backwards.
We have to demand better now, and constantly, and angrily, before it's too late. Then when they say no, we have to make them say yes. There is no room for the long game anymore. These freaks want to rule the ashes so long as they get to rule something.

The best advice I ever received was from my father.......Never speak on a subject you don't know, just listen and learn, then do your research before you speak on the subject.
It's amazing how prevalent the opposite has become. And they call this the "information age." Why do we think we must form an opinion on every issue, nearly all of which we have but the barest of information?
Didn't Oscar Wilde say: "If people only spoke about topics of which they have knowledge, a lot of dinner parties would be very silent".

As an older person, I understand the perspective I didn't have at 22. When I was 22, I didn't understand the power of my youth. The reality is that generational wars are BS. "Slaughterhouse-Five, or, The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death is a 1969 semi-autobiographic science fiction-infused anti-war novel by Kurt Vonnegut." It is some times banned, ergo it is worthy of one's attention and time to not just read, but study.

I’m hooked on this show, I’m 55 genX and across the pond in the uk , I wish we had shows and hosts like this…. All youth generations are voiceless but not powerless. As a teenager of the 80s and in my early 20s in the 90s we raged against the machine as did the generations before us in the 60s and 70s , the end of the 90s the youth (and many others) were rallying against globalisation, the imf, world bank and WTO …. Then the world changed and led us on a dark path to where we now find ourselves …. I think and hope things are changing, slowly. What is happening in your country with the Democratic Party has reinstated some hope as I watch the tables turning on trump and co from across the pond . If and when trump and his cronies are resigned to the history books along with his cardboard cut outs in various countries, like mine, we can all return to some sense of normality and security and the youth will again , hopefully rally against the status quo to ensure progress and change …. I don’t believe GenZ are any different from the generations that went before them what is different is the divide our societies have endured as genz came of age
Amen!
After Biden dropped out, young people have an excellent choice to have optimism for their future. YES! Vonnegut was also my favorite author. Still is! He and Douglas Adams. Kurt posed one of my favorite questions. Do I have a life worth living? He posited many do not! I feel my life's work as a therapist and helping people through trauma has led me to believe I do indeed have a life worth living.... Hope I'm right about that!

I will have to reread my Kurt Vonnegut books! I think that Ursula Le Guin stood out to me more, especially when I reread her work in my 30s.

@@JaniceLHzWay back in 1996, LeGuin was the guest of honor at the feminist science fiction convention WISCON. I asked her if she really meant democratic socialism and not anarchism in the book The DisPossessed. She replied that, no, she really meant anarchism! I love the book, but don't know much about the theoretical basis of the links of small collectives that she describes. The Wizard of Earthsea is also wonderful, and great for questions of identity and quests for self understanding.
To all the newer generations use the tools you have today to build the world you want.
This has to be a weekly thing on CZcams!!!!
It’s great to see that Jon Stewart is great at properly answering ad hoc (so it seemed to me ! ) Q’s from the young studio audience. I like him even more ! Respect !!
Kurt Vonnegut is THE BEST! I'm so glad I read his books in my teens, it helped shape my world :)
Same!
Perception is reality folks. It’s quite amazing how neighbors can think we live in vastly different worlds because they watch different networks.
Kurt Vonnegut is so amazing and appropriate as a recommendation
Our world needs more Kurt Vonnegut. Those books changed my life as a teenager too.
He is so right about Kurt Vonnegut
Thanks Jon. I had a conversation with Kurt in his kitchen back in the 70s. A humanist all the way. 🕺🏼❤️❤️✌🏼
Kurt Vonnegut raised me as well. I live by his wisdom.
"A little experience often upsets a lot of theory." I understand why people in their 20s are disillusioned. My generation was too back in the late 60s and 70s. But don't ever give up your power at the ballot box! Democracy is not a spectator sport. Complacency and being a low-information voter are the enemies of democracy. Vote 💙🗳️ 🇺🇲
3:30 - So it goes...
As someone who had to share their own parents with others (high profile / worked a lot) can't thank his family enough for sharing him. We all need dad Jon Stewart.
We love us some Jon Stewart!
We are extremely fortunate to have voices of truth like Jon Stewart!
How lucky are we to get this kind of advice / musings from Jon and in the past, from Trevor!? Along with Craig Ferguson, those were / have been 3 of the wisest men in show business.
I keep thinking of Jon's interview with George Carlin (easy to find on here) where Jon is a lot younger. And while a lot of it is George's time to display his wisdom, he pretty quickly says something like "And I can see you're going to do many great things, too." Greatness recognized right there.
