I think he already displays some hints of subjective personality and sentient consciousness even before that. Maybe the upgrade improved those traits more, but they were definitely there. For example, the fact he recovered and attached himself the N7 armor plate from Sheppard for no apparent "logical" reason other than for simple admiration. Even if Sheppard asks him why he did it in ME 2 he isn't able to give him an explanation.
3 years ago ... i remember saying goodbye to them all on earth before the .(..crap ending) final battle that was a gut wrencher.. there are a small amount of games where you leave something of yourself there .. this is one of them
"We are your salvation". "You're killing everyone in the galaxy to save us?" You know, that exchange would have made more sense if the original plot twist occurred rather than what Mac Walters approved. Drew Karpyshyn's concept, while not perfect, had the markings of a good plot twist.
@@greenhat8978 Dark Energy was slowly ripping the universe apart. Haestrom's sun had aged prematurely because of this. Organic civilizations were accelerating this destabilization. The Reapers were harvesting civilizations to use their combined knowledge and the reapers to try and find a solution. In the end you had to choose whether to let the Reapers complete their harvest and let them continue in their plan to save the universe, or whether you destroyed them and faced the problem on your own.
And now I remember why I love this series despite the ending. It's not the ending that counts, it's the journey to get there, and holy shit what a journey that was
One of the best and most epic parts of the series in all senses IMO. It is sad how the endings rendered it basically meaningless when it actually disproves one of the Reaper's most firm assertions (that synthetic and organics will never be able to peacefully coexist).
I don't know why awesomeness makes me laugh, but damn. I chuckle whenever the most extreme measures are taken to kill something. Example: Aiming the guns of an entire fleet on a single Reaper, all at once. Repeatedly.
Though given that's what it normally takes t kill one anyway...I mean, look at Sovereign. Shrugs off everything the turians, Destiny Ascension, and Fifth Fleet can hit it with, then its shields go down partway through the battle. Then the entire fleet hits it with everything they have left and its hull alone still takes possibly hundreds of shots like a champ until the Normandy's shot finally destroys it.
I always loved how each reaper is intelligent, made them more spooky really, each one being completely self-aware of what they're doing made them more menacing imo
I present to you: The Dumbest God Machine ever! (Let's expose my one weakness to kill a target I apparently can't hit with that weapon, when I could easily step on it!)
My dearly departed best friend Jeff was a US Army vet who fought in the Vietnam War. Before he passed, he would often tell me of his personal experiences as well as notable reports of the actions of fellow soldiers in the battlefield.... One such soldier was cut off from his unit by surrounding Viet Cong forces. Under enemy fire & equipped w/ little more than his field radio, this lone soldier contacted ground fire support, requested an artillery strike, gave his position as the target & added, "Fire for effect -- repeat, *fire for effect*." Basically, he told the US artillery, "Throw EVERYTHING you've got at me!" Incredibly, the artillery strike inflicted devastating damage to the enemy BUT managed to miss our balls-to-the-wall trooper ... for which he received a medal for bravery under extreme fire.
God damn I just realized watching this again. THE REAPER HINTS AT THE ACTUAL ORIGINALLY INTENDED PURPOSE OF THE REAPERS! "We represent order, you represent chaos" The original intended purpose of the reapers has a big hint drop in the ME2 recruitment mission of Tali where that star is dying way sooner than it should from dark energy destabilizing it, causing it to age faster. The original purpose of the reapers is to harvest FTL civilization because the use of Mass Effect technology accelerates the rate of entropy in the universe, effectively shortening it's lifespan before all stars are gone. Entropy is chaos. The Reapers impose order to prevent that chaos. While also assimilating the knowledge of civilizations hoping to finally find a solution to the problem posed by Mass Effect tech accelerating entropy. I think either EA thought that was way too smart of an ending for people to understand or some other stupid shit happened.
There have never been greater characters in a videogame. Telling the Catalyst to fuck off since you've freed the geth and made them allies... organics and synthetics fighting the reapers side by side... priceless....
i never saw what tali did in the other instance until a friend told me then i watched it on youtube whenever i see that friend my first thought is .... you killed tali how could you
Tali is probably my favorite female character. She's like a little amish girl that you get to watch grow up and develop. Something of a kid sister character that matures over the course of the three games. Plus, she fights with a shotgun, which makes her infinitely fascinating.
One question, does Legion still live on as a back-up copy somewhere on the Geth systems? If so, Legion's immortal, and his sacrifice has meant nothing, as Legion can just cheat death and return to the fold by re-downloading into his body. Or maybe I'm just being a hopeful idiot who is completely wrong.
I don't think so, because he says Direct Personality dissemination required, which I think means he de-constructs his own personality to help all Geth.
The scene does VERY little to explain exactly what & why things happen this way, but as intelligent people we can make intelligent guesses.... At some point, the collective intelligence network that comprised Legion had finally "crystalized" into a fully conscious individual (thanx to the Reaper upgrade code, presumably) -- by which time Legion had discovered (or was about to realize) that simply uploading the Reaper code to the Geth Consensus wasn't going to work after all. Somehow, Legion formulated an alternative solution: by "injecting" all its programs & data directly into the Consensus ("direct dissemination") it could "infect" the entire Geth network w/ the Reaper code ... but to do so Legion would have to deliberately dissolve its own "neural net" so that its component programs could set about installing the Reaper upgrades across the entire Consensus like a viral contagion, & that would mean giving up its newly-found existence as a self-aware entity. Its 1183 programs would continue to exist as members of the vast Consensus, but not as "Legion" -- that entity would be gone forever. Knowing that, Legion chose its people's future over its own individual preservation -- but it also recognized the impact such a final decision would have on its organic comrades.... "Shepard Commander, I must go to them. I'm ... I'm sorry. It's the only way." 😦😥😪♥️ [Note: I understand that there R plenty of fans of Legion who saw its "death" as a meaningless sacrifice; under the comment section of Jaguar550's "Legion: All Scenes from ME2 / ME3" video here on CZcams I posted an alternate, expanded version of the Geth-Quarian Peace Solution ending in which Legion sacrifices itself for a completely different reason (posted as a reply under "'I must go to them' -- wells me up with emotion every time") that might work better for those fans of our favorite Geth bro.]

Yes, and there's things you must do: 1. During Tali's loyalty mission, you must both prevent her exile AND keep the Quarians from learning about Rael's experiments. This requires a very high Paragon score. 2. During Legion's loyalty mission, rewrite the rebel Geth instead of destroying them. 3. After Legion's loyalty mission, he and Tali will argue. You need to select the blue Paragon option. 4. Complete both Rannoch side missions before Priority: Rannoch. (save Korris and shut down the Geth server) 5. Have a VERY high Paragon or Renegade score.
Bioware's superior writing was sorely missed in M3 ending.. just added 3 varying colors. Probably the largest pile of shit in gameending history of epic gameseries.

You shouldn't compare Andromeda to ME3. It's basically the ME1 of a new trilogy.
