Today we challenge ourselves to find all Sydney Cheap Food to see what $20 food can we get in Hurstville. Hurstville is a suburb in Southern Sydney, 16 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD about 35mins by train. Hurstville has the biggest Chinese Australian residents which makes an awesome area filled with Chinese food restaurants from dumplings, Chinese BBQ meats, noodles to Cantonese or Hong Kong food as well.
We tried one of the best banh mi (pork rolls) in Sydney from Kings Hot Bread that has been in the business over 20 years! Pineapple bread from Bakery King and Cake Shop that only costs $1.50. One of the best soy sauce chicken we've ever tried from Golden Sun BBQ, it seems like local Chinese restaurant loved by locals. To close off, refreshing passion fruit slushie from Kurimu x Hokkaido and steamed dumplings from 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle Shop.
If you are planning to move, travel or visit Sydney on budget, hope this video will help you!
Watch till the end to see whether we nailed this $20 food challenge. If you love this kind of food challenge, let us know in the comment which Sydney suburb should we do next?

Love the challenge videos! It is super cool to find out what your budget can get you. Such a huge and delicious looking sandwich! Love any coconut flavored dessert but pineapple bread is looking really good too! Dumplings are my favorite among everything you had!
The food looks really yummy! 💕I enjoyed the trip with you! 💕😊
You guys are so awesome. The Sydney food explorer, you guys just know where to find good foods 😋😋😋
Everything looks very delicious 🤤🤤
Love your video ❤❤❤
Enjoyed watching this video👍
You guys did a great job with this challenge! Some legit food options here and can tell you weren't trying to jam something in just because it's cheap.

I am loving the $20 challenges ..The Banh mi was nice and I agree the dumpling 🥟 dough is better when it’s thinner ,The bbq was a great price and looked so yummy ..I think your should do a video on the best Chinese BBQ places ..great video ..x🥰❤️💕
That sounds like great idea irena!! Thanks always for the support🙏🏼🙏🏼
Nice to see Kurimu expanded to Sydney too 😁 Love their choux pastry.
$5 for a quarter chicken right? Looks super juicy, so worth the price 👍🏻
The banh mi looks amazing! For the price, it looks so worth it 👍🏻
$1.5 pineapple bun is a steal 👌🏻
Great video guys!
Thanks always justin🙏🏼😊
Another great food content guys oh G banh mi again...banh mi is always been my favorite vietnamese food and the bakery has so much pastry to choose wow and the roast chicken looks really² good i wanna have some😋
Thanks so much selwen!!🙏🏼Hehe yeah almost every suburb in sydney now got one banh mi place😂
Good old Hurstville,I recall many years before Club Central it was Catholic Club with $1 meals with dessert and used to go to end of day special in food court, not sure if dumpling place still open in outdoor area near cinema,I think you got good deals and looking forward for Lakemba Ramadan to come back this year, Hurstville bused to have more choices in past,Thanks
Legit review they always hit in Hurstville
Great video guys. Confirm that Golden Sun BBQ is excellent, it's certainly my favourite.
Next time try Roast Goose at Taste of Shunde. It's the best..!
Wooottt OK thank you for the recommendation!!🙏🏼
Nick must really love banh mi 😂 please do one more banh mi episode 🙏 it is the best 👌 top 100 banh mi in Australia 🇦🇺 that bakery looks really authentic to Hong Kong. That's often how they look like there too. Mmmm roast duck and dumplings looked bomb need some of that for lunch 🤤
Great video guys. I see Helmi loves the mushroom heads :)
Goodbye toad 🤣
@@nickandhelmi from Mario Kart :)
@@danielfife713 haha yes
Milk tea would go great with that bun indeed. The bbq place looks like a good choice. That chicken looks amazing.
Great video guys !
I regularly go to Hurstville for dinner...but I must say that I think it's not as good as it used to be. A few of my favourite eateries have closed recently, probably due to the pandemic.
I always go to the Kings hot bread bakery for a Banh mi.
Prefer Mr Chao for BBQ duck and pork. There is also a BBQ shop in the train station food court, that isn't too bad.
I go to the Meridian club for a combo Chow mein.
The Good Kitchen does one of the best Shan tun chickens...but it's not cheap.
Love the sausage buns at Diamond bakery.
There is also "Extra Crispy Chicken" down the end of Forrest Rd near the post office. I tried it once, and it's quite good.
Lastly, if you're in Westfield's around 4.30/5.00p.m, the food courts start selling cheap food...Thai, Chinese, rolls, Pides etc.
Yesterday I went to Cabramatta to eat.
Stay well guy's !
👍🇦🇺
Jim.
love this Jim!! We always love to hear local recommendations hehe🙏Okay Mr Chao sounds like really good BBQ place so we definitely trying it. Hope you enjoyed Cabra and stay well too :)
The birthplace of architect yao
My favourite spot in Hurstville is Dumpling King restaurant. They have a hand made noodles with garlic and chili which is amazing.
Yay! A $20 food challenge!!
Starting with a Bahn mi is the best way to start. Why you can't eat liver, Helmi?
We are missing the rain guys, summer has arrived and we are burning lol
I used to buy banh mi from Kings when I lived in Hurstville. I miss it so much!
Love that you've finally highlighted Hurstville.
Cant wait to go back and do another full episode Lin, so much good food in Hurstville
everywhere happens to be taken
Great Vid Nickand Helmi
I with you, the Westfield car park is a nightmare mare .
The place with the duck in the windows has a great sweet and Sour Pork ready cooked.
The banh mi from King's Hot Bread looks really good - even if there isn't a bunch of pate. The bread is crucial and looks like they nailed it!
Ooooh Kurimu and Hokkaido cheese tarts! They are opening a store in westfields parramatta…so keen for it!
I saw it!! Should try the choux pastry from Kurimu then cheese tarts from Hokkaido haha😊 BTW we wanna do the Ramadan Night Market next week!! :D
Great job with this $20 challenge! So much options for little money. Chicken and Char Siu all day 😋
Thank you 🤗
Love that roast duck! Nice video😄
It looks like roast duck but actually soy chicken hehe
@@nickandhelmi Really?! Thank you for letting me know. I was in the middle of something while watching it the 1st time. I’m watching it again without distraction this time 😃
Great video guys, could you do an episode for ramadan markets in Lakemba? Looking forward for your next video
Hehehe YES next week episode❤️🔥
Thanks for this wonderful video.
thanks so much Yasin :D
@@nickandhelmi 🙂
I love watching people eat that's the only thing I don't have a problem with
Yay! Finally you tried King's Hot Bread! Joseph here! The Westfield cleaner guy who asked for a selfie. 🤣😅 Hope you guys are well!
heyyy joseph tagged you in IG post, we'll try more restaurants as u recommend too, thank you so much🙏🏼 also thanks for taking time to take picture with us hahaa.. we felt like celebrity!😂🙈
Hello, Maria and Jon here - your loyal viewers! We are hoping that you guys could do a little bit of exploring up at Carlingford Court. They’ve got a Jiggly Cake shop with amazing Jiggly Cheesecakes worth a mention, not to mention other eateries.
Keep up the good work and interesting videos. See you next time…
Hey guys have you tried "Golden Sands Restaurant" in Hurstville its the best dumplings and yum cha in Hurstville!
I recommend Diamond Bakery particularly for their sesame or peanut nuomici plus a variety of more unique pastries like maltose/wintermelon pastries and the mooncakes. Also Spice Temple for their Sichuan dishes - twice cooked pork, stir fried beef with chili, stir fried chicken with eggplant and dry fried spicy intestines
soo after we walked down after Bakery King, we saw the Diamond Bakery! Okay will try this next time for sure :D Gosh sichuan dishes, perfect for this weather too. Thank you so much for the recommendation🙏
Find that Hong Kong tea, Helmi, we believe in you!!!
Pork is delish but duck is just as good for us. Yes, you are missing the steamy rice, agree. but look at that chicken, Nick!!
Brain freeze is the worst!
We love dumplings, can you find them for under $5? That is good! We recently had dumplings and also found them a bit dry. Totally hear you.
You guys did great with your spending. Glad you found your car too. 😂
The banh mi looks so delicious and so cheap too! Even on the cheapest option they don't skimp out on the filling
If you're back in Hurstville try Thai Thae just north of Westfield, they do the best Thai food in the area 😋
I usually go to Hurstville for malatang so great to see other great options. My next advise would be Eastwood :P
We love Ewoo, so definitely on our list🙌🏻 Carpark in Eastwood is also nightmare, we got booked by ranger once coz over only by 10mins!😑
Burwood
Yes. You went to the best BBQ shop. Always long queue on special days. Especially on Chinese New Year , there would be at least 30+ people in the queue.
Did you seriously walk into every shop here
@@MitchellBPYao I live in the area for 20 years. I know the shops well.
Hi Nick and Helmi I thoroughly enjoy your vlog. Please try Tornados Smokehouse in Concord on majors bay road.Chef Barzan smokes and rubs all his meats with tender loving care. His ribs are even better than anything I have had in the USA.The onion rings and buffalo wings are amazing too.
Ohh thank you for the recommendation Aiman🙌🏻 We havent explore Concord too, so thanks a lot🙏🏼
Hi Nick and Helmi,
Please also try The Savoury Dining on concord road which is an all you can eat Vietnamese tapas. The manager there is Ben.
My other recommendation is Threeonenine also on concord road which is a French Asian fusion restaurant owned by chef Graham.Keep up the good work.
$5 for chicken!! yesss!! how did i miss this place in my last trip to Sydney.
Love love these $20 challenges!
Thanks so much Laura🤗🥰
considering the size, the pineapple bread was a good choice we think...hehe. The 5 dollars only chicken ! yes we agree with Nick! the rice will complete the meal. But still it looks amazing! Oh wow the pork dumpling ! yeah we also like juicy one but the meat looks legit!
Agreed about the car parking haha
Right?! We thought our car was stolen and ended up walking through entire car park floor to realise it's the wrong floor 😂😂
The hand pulled noodle at lanzhou is one of the best in Sydney
I think the soft serve machine they use is the same brand as McDonald's. Always broken. 🤣
So delicious mouth watering recipe 🎁 stay connected with stay bless
Yeah, the Westfield car park can be confusing. Just catch the train next time.
That's such a tough challenge when you're exploring a place almost from scratch with only $20. Banh mi looks bomb.
hey love your vids! what's your guys backgrounds?
Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼 we are Indonesians 😊
that look Chinese
You guys didn’t get the chicken crunchies from King’s hot bread. It’s super cheap and delicious. Also you forgot to check the train station. They have a lot cheap eats there. Mr Chao’s have better soya sauce chicken but Golden Sun does better crispy pork belly.
Ohhh next time thanks mooksy for the recommendation 🙌🏻😋
Haha I too thought that the pineapple bun had pineapple in it at first
Should try the $2.60 chicken pie at delight dimsim next time
最愛法國麵包
I'd realize I don't really know my suburb that well at all after watching this and been a local of it
If you’re in Hurstville again. Try the pork bun @ Big Bun for $2. Good snack
Hello Nick how r u? Long time not see u , Do u remember me who want to be ur second wife 🤣 lol 😆 happy new years u both too and hope ur family always happy 2022 💞💞
Hahah hey 😂
Usually with duck you hardly get any meat too. It's mostly skin and bone. 😂
good video
Thanks joseph😊
Best BBQ Hurstville has to be Mr Chao, for taste but Golden Sun for Healthiness
Thank you!! We'll try Mr Chao next time 😁
Agreed....Mr Chao is the best.
There used to be one at Marrickville years ago.
I’m local and Mr Chao is the best Chinese bbq in Hurstville 😂
There's two
It is true the Westfield carpark is revolting
okay not just me HAHA
I WOULD LOVE TO MEET U GUYS ONE DAY
i WOULD BE SHAKING
we are everywhere HAHA, you'll definitely will see us in one of the restaurants somewhere 😝 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Relly enjoyed your video. . .
Wish to make one video together
Thank you!!
i actually got the whole soy chicken today, but the bones too bloody for me and leaked everywhere
ohh no, when we got the soy chicken it wasn't bloody just kinda like red-ish bone marrow. should try the char siu & pork crackling too yum :D
@@nickandhelmi I started with the free range chicken there, I also get crispy pork from the BBQ shop up in the station.
I normally go Hurstville for YumCha at Golden Sands, or food at The Good Kitchen
Weedborn has some very useful CBD stuff with all the supplementation I need.
Char siu is my fav roll from Kings. The meat is sliced so thin and so delicious! now $8
I remember going there on coaching for lunch than sat at those seats
That $5 soy sauce chicken looks like a gem!
Cant wait to go back
