What's the Best Parker-Style G2 Refill? Pen Refill Roundup for the Best EDC Ink

  • Looking for the best refill for your pen? Does it use the popular Parker G2 style refill? I had the same issue so I did this review roundup. I looked at:
    Parker G2 refill: don't buy!
    Parker Quink Gel: amzn.to/2sCyhNu
    Visconti Capless refill: amzn.to/2C2b6jH
    Schmidt EasyFlow 9000: amzn.to/2HoPnBL
    Moleskine G2 refill: amzn.to/2sCyGiY
    Levenger G2 refill: don't buy
    Rotring G2 refill: not in video but don't buy
    My favorite is the EasyFlow 9000. It just feels great and is fun to use. My second favorite is the Moleskine, because it lets out a lot of ink and is super smooth. The Visconti is not bad at all, but it's a lot more expensive than the others and harder to find.
    The EasyFlow 9000 is my favorite EDC pen ink right now. It fits a lot of pens, it's reliable, and it works on a wide number of surfaces. It's not as universal as a Sharpie or some others, but it gets the job done.
    Yes, I missed the popular Parker QuinkFlow and Itoya Gel 0.7mm refill. That's my bad. Also missed the Monteblanc, Monteverde, but those tend to be pretty expensive so I'll follow up with them if there is sufficient interest.

    Thanks for watching? Thanks for making!
    I have some Parker Jotters and, as common they may be, I like 'em.
    Only the writing with probably the standard Parker G2 fill is not that smooth (even more when compared to fountain pens).
    Glad to hear that there are good alternatives.

    The new Parker Ballpoint pen refill is also known as Quinkflow.
    According to Parker it is,
    The familiar Parker ballpoint refill shape, as fitted to virtually every Parker ballpoint ever made, with super-smooth, super-fast-drying hybrid ink. These refills are noticeably smoother than standard Parker ballpoint refills and give denser, more vivid colour.

    Great Video. Thank you. I went away from the Parker G2's many years ago. I love the pen bodies but the standard refills start out writing nicely but quickly the ink starts to fade and as you say require a lot of friction to write with. Makes writing with them very unpleasant.

    I've got two favourite G2 style refills: Senator ballpoint and Schneider Slider ballpoint. I've seen you mention the Schneider Slider in another video but never the Senator.
    I have been using Senator refills for 35 years. When I was a teenager I went into a shop and tried all the ballpoint refills and I liked Senator the best and stuck to it. It is quite crisp and reliable, although also a bit scratchy, which I personally like, but some people don't.

    I used to actually refill de original G2 cartridge with fountain pen ink. Ones the gel it´s empty, I push to the end the silicon that keep the gel ink and pull out the roller ball cap. Just need to fill with a syringe, and recaped it. Some movement. And, that´s all.
    Used to remain juicer and bigger size around 1mm. Like a broad fountain pen. You can use your prefer fointain pen in it.

    Funny, out of all the very many pens and brands and ink types I've tried, the medium tip Parker QuinkFlow is my favorite. The smudging is minimal, the extra pressure over a gel refill is just right, so it's just right between scratching the paper and the weightless feel of gel.

    I find that Parker Quinkflow medium tip refills straight up die after a while (about a month) of not using them. The same type of refills from other brands can be revived in a sense by licking your finger and moistening the nib, then using it on some paper, but that specific type of Parker just starts to act like it's got very little ink and will never perform like it should.

    • @cytherians
      @cytherians Před 9 měsíci

      I really don't trust these claims of refills being "capless." Sure, they'll work for a fair amount of time like that, but the air exposure will accelerate drying out. For capless ballpoint pens, I put a "nose condom" on it--a vinyl rubber cover. You can buy a whole set of different sizes and experiment to find which ones suit your various pens. It'll extend the refill life. On pens you seldom use? Just fold some clear tape over the tip.

    • @RetroOnSpeedDial
      @RetroOnSpeedDial Před 9 měsíci

      @@cytherians no ballpoint I've owned has had an airtight cap. Ballpoints are self sealing because of that ball. As long as you store it vertically with the point facing down or at least on its side it should be good. I've had 60 year old ink inserts come back to life after just licking my finger and using some thicker typewriter paper

    • @cytherians
      @cytherians Před 9 měsíci

      @@RetroOnSpeedDial I think it also depends upon the composition of the ink. I've had plenty of older refills (20+ years) that were stored sideways or tip down and wouldn't write reliably. I could flick my wrist while holding one and get enough ink for a few letters, then it would fade out again. I've seen clear tube refills that look nearly full simply not write.

The Kaweco gel g2 ceramic roller is better, very saturated black like from a fountain pen (looks almost like my Lamy Vista with Pelican brilliant black) but a single refill kosts over 10 euros wtf. this one came in my used Sport AL, dont know if it is standard, wont buy it for that price even if its nice. In my Rotring 600 i still have a Schneider Slider 755 xbs, very smooth and thick line, but also greyish color like a cheapo throw away ballpoint.

    Just checked and Levenger is actually in biz and several of their G2 refills are rebranded Schmidt p900 and p9000 (easy flow) models; pricing is funny because 2 are a$8 or 9 but six are $15, if I read it right. Also wondering why you like Schmidt Easy Flow vs. Schneider Sliders. Finally, wondering if you or any viewers have checked out the Caron Dache Swiss Roll pen refills? Only does in medium point but I got one and it's relatively smooth for a 1.0 medium (I prefer 1.2 bolds like the Foray Advanced Ink/Zebra flight or the 1.0 Jetstream... thanks!

      Lefty underwriter here. If you tend to overwrite then you might want to try either fast drying gel like the Ohto Flash Dry Gel refill, or a ballpoint cartridge as usually ballpoint refills use oil-based ink which dry instantly.

      In my experience, Itoya and Ohto needlepoint gel share the no.3 spot. Pierre Cardin’s gel refills are much more fluid and take the no. 2 spot. Schneider Gelion is at a whole another plateau : buttery smooth and the only gel that will write on every surface-including coated paper like sticky notes. (Haven’t tried the uni jet steam 600). Not a single Parker “ballpoint” refill satisfy me. Stabilo is pretty good but not fluid enough.

    @williamneal9076 Před 3 měsíci

    Seems it depends on the writer, the pen, and then the refill. Uniball has a great Parker Type. Ohto as well. It's all depending on what you need then. I'm a linxhinder, but write like a Right handed person. I dislike any refill that skips and or blobs. Most do. And a few crap out early like the Schmidt Easy Flow. Monteverde has a nice Broad point in its Soft Roll P15. And who in the WORLD made all of us have to call the Parker a G-2? Shame on them. That refill not only doesn't work very well, but Pilot's pen by that name STINKS! Skippy super viscous junk.

      That's a Rotring 600 Ballpoint pen.
