i like that you guys dont show only the paradise part of sailing, you show the hardships, the mosquitoes, the no seeums, the bad weather, the hard work involved etc. ive seen so many channels pop up then disappear after they realized the boat life isnt as glamorous as they thought.

Well Colin, it is just since a few weeks that I found your channel and I’m so impressed. I’ve really learned a lot from your videos, all the glass fiber works and even replacing core. I had no clue that you can replace balsa by honeycomb but also the mechanical sections are very well done. The clutch was an interesting one. It was my call that the very accurate clearance by grinding the nut did the trick. She will be a beautiful floating lady soon! Thanks a lot for this incredible howto series. Color matching can be tough. I've run print presses for years and deal with color matching everyday. White can be really challenging but I believe you'll be fine. Your mixing technique was spot on. Good job brother!!

I can't believe the ferocity of this storm.BBC is saying only 1 boat sunk.I think it was mush worse.It was about as bad as Irma.I lived through a Cat. 5 Hurricane & so did my home.I devised a marine rigging system to hold down my roof but it's even difficult to watch storm footage.In other news the Doomsday clock inched forward to the 100 minute mark.Colin is doing the smartest thing possible.Get out of Dodge.

Few products that might help ye , aqua shield green grease and para el ketone black bear amazing for bolt heads /nuts and stopping corrosion and water ingress much better than that tef gel stuff
Good job guys. Just a tip: Angle your underwater lights further downwards or most of the beam will internally reflect across the surface of the water. Honestly, I have mine at a shallow angle like you are doing here and they don’t work very well. It’s because the water refracts the light to a different angle I believe.

Dude, plumbers tape is risky. When it leaks, it'll keep leaking and increase over time. Old school hemp and cocking ensures a small leak seals on its own.
Landing... to put our boat on the hard for half a year or more. Panama is an option also, but my wife is from Honduras. We can drive to her family's place from Guatemala in a couple of hours. Your channel is one of the BEST!!
I wonder if after all this is it really convenient to buy a hurricane damaged cat. Consider the cost of the boat spare parts and materials. The labor if you want consider it at 0 since it will be you or at 50% if you want. Also it is all the time since you bought it until you finish that the cat can't be used that it can be one or two years. That time you can be charting it or enjoying it also another cost to add. I understand that it might be the only way to get it but just wondering.
Any second cat could have hidden problems and need to be slipped anyways, I can see what you're saying, you got all the other carry on with organisation to charter and can't be sure it'll always be booked out and time, but they obviously didn't have or want to layout $300-500k and gotta admit they've done well, they've done it well on a budget hard work but they'll be great times ahead!
We obviously get asked this a lot and my response is pretty simple. I wanted a big cat which would give me the option to do surf charters in the future, but didn't have $450,000 which is what they were worth over 2 years ago. So I did this and couldn't be happier. But no if you factor in the labor at USA prices it is 100% not a good investment. But what we have done and learnt is literally priceless.
next time do not use buna oil seals ,order the same seals in viton double lip ,viton will last 4x longer with 4 lips touching. Viton are brown in colour

love the maintenance parts. Teflon tape should be 2-1/2 wraps max. After that think about pipe dope / wrap combo.

It’s definitely tough to guess this when out of the water. We put ours in our monohull and the worked great but it was a big guess.

Just a quick Q? Why do you use PTFE gel on your bolts? Thought you were meant to use Copperslip or some other anti seize lubricant?
