  • The nightmare of Ahsoka is finally over as we review the last episode of the season. Meanwhile, everyone's been mocking the Robin Hood retelling for "modern audiences", and Gareth Edwards' The Creator turned out to be a decent scifi movie. The funniest thing about Filoni's writing to me is that, so far, The World Between Worlds only exists as an escape hatch for his favorite OC. It's one and only narrative function has been to bail Ahsoka out of certain-death situations.

He felt so ashamed of the fact that he wasnt winning that he promised himself that he would always pretend to be winning from then on. It's a heart-breaking tale of childhood trauma. Very sad.

How I would fix the last 2 episodes of Ashoka:
Have Sabine be brought before Thrawn. Thrawn orders her execution right there and then. Balen steps in front, explains his deal to let her go to Ezra in exchange for her help. Thrawn chuckles and says very well my forces last saw Ezra alive at these coordinates and let's her go, no silly wolf thing. When Sabine finally arrives at the coordinates she discovers that Thrawns forces had tracked down and killed Ezra years prior, this would not only make Thrawn appear more competent/menacing but also cause Sabine to realize she betrayed everyone for nothing. Thrawn then takes off confirms the location of the hyperspace lane to the system from the SW Galaxy then declares "I shall now reveal the technology I acquired in this galaxy that shall help us reconquer ours." He then releases perfect cloaked asteroids at the space lane exit before hyperspace jumping.
The final episode begins with Ashoka's ship arriving and immediately hitting the cloaked asteroids taking serious damage forcing a landing on the planet where Sabine is. Que Ashoka looking for Sabine and confronting her about what she did. We then have Sabine breakdown and admit she was wrong and let her own personal feelings prevent her from doing what was right. We could (if we rewrite the rest of the show) have Ashoka's journey through line be dealing with this exact same issue and that she came to the conclusion that helps Sabine move forward in the world between worlds. The episode would then end with the two teaming up to begin fixing the ship.
The B plot with Hera would end with her being demoted back to just a grunt pilot (since that's all they know how to use her anyway) maybe throw in a line about how she needs to relearn how to follow orders and the value of the lives of her men and that hopefully she will learn starting back at the bottom.

To give some insight on Ahsoka's age:
In the Clone Wars we meet her when she's 14. The Clone Wars was a 4 year conflict, so Ahsoka ends the war at 18 years old. In Rebels when she fights Vader, that's 15 years after Revenge of the Sith so she's 33 years old. The time travel shenanigans that saved Ahsoka's life had her jump forward in time 3 years, since Ezra was 3 years older when he grabbed her in the World Between Worlds. Ahsoka takes place 10 years after Rebels, so she is 43 years old biologically but 46 years old chronologically.
In terms of the Force, it frequently allows people to pull off feats that defy the limits of their old body. Count Dooku was 82 years old when Anakin killed him, and he was doing a pretty good job of fighting Anakin despite his advanced age. Yoda was doing badass flips and twirls despite being over 900 years old. Palpatine was in his 70s and he killed 3 Jedi Masters in the blink of an eye, and he only narrowly lost to Mace Windu. Mace Windu himself was in his mid 60s when he fought Palpatine, and he defeated one of the most powerful Sith Lords ever.
Ahsoka being 46 years old (43 biologically) should be child's play for the Force. She should be just as fast and nimble as when she was in her youth given how the Force works. It would take at least until her 60s or 70s for Ahsoka to start slowing down, given how the Force allows you to overcome physical limitations.

I truly have no idea what Dave was thinking when writing Ezra. He's not even a character, may as well just be a table given that Ezra sacrificed his own future to save the galaxy from Thrawn and he's just completely ok with Sabine throwing his sacrifice away because she wants to say hi. How do you write this, honestly? Sabine has not once, but twice made horrible decisions that have led to this stupid ending; stealing the map in the first episode which allowed it to be stolen in the first place, and then again by just handing the map to Baylen instead of destroying it (WHEN SHE THINKS HE JUST KILLED ASHOKA TOO). Ezra should be horrified when he sees Sabine, terrified that somehow she's been damned to this galaxy and his sacrifice was worthless. I think the thing the director of Robyn Hood doesn’t understand is that the character of Robin Hood was a noble before Prince John started all of his bullshit. He was someone closer to John’s standing but he still saw the damage being done to those less fortunate and decided to do something about it. He didn’t need to be a hero but he chose to be a hero because it was the right thing to do against John and his unjust way of treating his subjects.

The second I heard “black bisexual woman”, I groaned and let out a mighty “oh no, here we go again…” From what you’re describing and what the trailer seems to say, it sounds like it’s so hilariously bad, but also actual torture to sit through. And “Director X” blames the negative response on racism….no, buddy, we’re just sick of classic, timeless stories being ruined just to push THE MESSAGE.
I know the Kevin Costner one had its flaws, but I’ll take that any day over this trash. Glad this new one’s getting destroyed.

The problem now is that Disney has cultivated a fanbase that only likes the mediocre, key-jangling shows as of late. Andor's low view count is evidence of that, despite it's quality. Disney either has to spend a lot of money with no guarantee of return to rebuild the Star Wars reputation, or continue making the same shitty shows for the meager returns they do get (which are rapidly diminishing). It certainly doesn't help that they've handed the IP's reins to a fan-fiction writer that can't even write halfway decent stories.

If A New Hope was made today: Falcon gets pulled into the Death Star hangar, two Stormtroopers approach. Obi-Wan force pushes them back and slashes a panel with his lightsaber. This disables the tractor beam and starts a chain reaction, because that's what he needed to happen. Obi Wan says "Run Luke, run!" as Vader stabs him through the gut. They escape on the Falcon, and Luke looks mildly sad. Then, we see Obi-Wan force-pulling himself to the Falcon, he comes into the airlock, and quips "it was only a flesh wound." Meanwhile, Vader escapes the exploding Death Star in his Tie Fighter, folds his arms smugly and says "All too easy..." as he zooms into the distance.

Funny that Disparu should mention this. George Lucas actually hired someone to keep track of the Expanded Universe, to keep everything in order, making sure everything that was added didn't break lore and continuity within the EU. The guy's name was Leland Chee aka Keeper of the Holocron. He literally had a database (the holocron) that sounded very similar to the one Disparu described Brandon Sanderson's lore-keeper having. Leland Chee kind of dropped off the internet after the buyout happened though. He's still at Lucasfilm, but I don't think he's serving in the same capacity as before.

Okay, I had a LONG discussion with my best friend about this last night. She watched the last episode then, and I didn't tell her spoilers.
I told her the rumor (about Kennedy destroying the force), that was given in episode three or four. Before Thrawn and the Night Sisters.
She absolutely lost it, especially since it was shown the pattern for this to happen. Also since all the female force users are now in a different Galaxy.
She's a huge fan of Rebels and loved Ahsoka. But over time, our discussion turned to what makes writing good and memorable. Especially since we rp often and I was telling her about Mauler’s comparison of episode five to other, better, series who handled the situation in memorable moments.
She remembered those episodes, so I simply asked her if she has a bad memory of television series, why can she remember those episodes on mere mention?
She was struck dumb by it, and she didn’t have an answer. We actually spent time from that discussing the issue with Disney and Star Wars.
I didn’t ruin it for her, but just gave her that one point that is so overlooked for her to see what I had been trying to explain to her.
Our debate changed from Thrawn being the best villain (Filoni’s version), to how Zhan made him in the beginning and how much he had changed.
It was engaging and I haven’t had a debate like that for years, all because EFAP, Drinker and Mauler helped me with the information that helped her understand.
    Thank you.
Also, even before I changed her mind, she blatantly refused to watch anything non-Force related. Even a second season of Ahsoka.

It seems to me that even I can imagine a more interesting idea for this series than what the screenwriter wrote (which is generally not difficult), even without any screenwriting skills. At the same time, I will leave, in part, those parts of the plot that Disney “dumped out”.
Imagine this plot for the series: After the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka does what we saw her doing in season 2 of The Mandalorian - she hunts former Imperial officers, tracking down and bringing to trial those who were able to escape justice from the New Republic. And sometimes Ahsoka already begins to cross the line - she kills the henchmen of these “fugitive criminals”, and maybe even kills one or two “criminals”. This makes her doubt herself and wonder if she has followed the path of her mentor. In fact, she becomes a kind of “Punisher” from the world of Star Wars, because, let me remind you, in “Rebels” she no longer completely followed the Jedi code. And now several of the "high value targets" she has captured for the Republic are talking about Thrawn's return, which will change the entire galaxy.
And Morgan Elsbeth’s interrogation leads Ahsoka to an ancient magical MacGuffin device - a map of hyperspace paths that lead to some long-lost corner of space where, as supporters of the Empire believe, Thrawn is located. Only this map is located on Mandalore, because once upon a time, during the war between the Mandalorians and the Jedi, it was captured in battle, and then hidden on Mandalore, because the possession of this map, according to the Mandalorians, could give the Jedi an advantage in the war. And so, after Ahsoka receives the map and kills the Empire's minions who were on her trail, she discovers that the map is hidden by a secret Mandalorian Cipher, which she does not know. She tries to contact the Mandalorians she knows - Bo-Katan Kryze or Din Jaren, but she is unable to contact any of them. As a result, she has to go to the only Mandalorian she still knows - Sabine Wren.
Sabine spends her time on Lothal, where she settled after the war. At the same time, despite the fact that the population honors her as a hero, the authorities of the New Republic rather treat her as a relic of the war, and also a rather unreliable element, because many Mandalorians, after the destruction of their world, became pirates, bandits and mercenaries, which is completely doesn't help their reputation. Sabine herself is lost because she doesn't feel like part of her people, her new "family" (the team from "Rebels") is scattered across the galaxy/dead/disappeared, and the New Republic doesn't need her help. She has no goal, because for a long time her goal was to overthrow the Empire, and now that this has happened, she does not know what to do. And in this state Ahsoka finds her.
And Sabine is angry at Ahsoka. We learn that after the events of Rebels ended, Ahsoka and Sabine set out to find Ezra. That they spent years searching for any clues, even skipping the end of the war with the Empire to search for their long-lost friend. But in the end, Ahsoka decided that there was no more hope and decided to search for the ex-Imperials, giving up the idea of finding Ezra and accepting that he was dead or gone forever. And Sabine could never forgive Ahsoka for this. In “my version,” Sabine, of course, was never Ahsoka’s student and is not force-sensitive at all. And now Ahsoka lures her with the idea that they can find Ezra if Sabine can decipher the map that is hidden in the codes of her people. At the same time, Ahsoka is tormented by the thought that she does not know what she wants more - to find Ezra, or to “punish” Thrawn.
Somewhere at this time, Ahsoka and Sabine are attacked by Beilan Skoll's student, Shin, with the support of assassin droids. Assoka is forced to fight several droids, and Shin, in turn, attacks Sabine, wounds her, presumably cutting off her hand, and takes the map. But Shin does not have time to kill Sabine, because Ahsoka, who is stronger than her, keeps up, and Shin has to run away.
A small digression - Balon and Sheen still pull Morgan Elsbeth out of the New Republic prison ship, they simply use the ciphers of the new Republic itself, which they received from someone “inside the system”, and, once on the ship, they obsolete the “funny cut of the crew ".
Next, Sabine remains in the medical center on Lothal, but before that she manages to pull out part of the memory from the head of one of the droids that attacked her and Ahsoka earlier. Thanks to this, they find out that the location where the droid was before Lothal is Corellia.
Knowing that Corellia is one of the main planets of the New Republic, Ahsoka contacts Hera Sendula, who is now a general of the New Republic. Together with her, they go to Corellia, where they eventually find a cell loyal to the empire, which, using the bureaucracy of the Republic, secretly produces equipment for the Imperials. At the end of this “series”, Ahsoka encounters Shin and defeats her outright, almost killing her, and if it weren’t for the ship that arrived in time and fired at Ahsoka, she would definitely have died.
Hera and Chopper manage to install a tracking device on the enemy ship (which, of course, is launched using an automatic system, and not thrown by the droid manually). Which ultimately gives them the coordinates of the planet where our “villains” are hiding.
Hera, of course, goes to the new republic to try to organize a pursuit mission, while Ahsoka goes to Sabine to take her as an ally, because now she needs everyone she can get. Let's skip the question of why she didn't go, for example, to Luke, because here we need to apply the same rule as in the early Marvel films, when some Captain America didn't call the avengers in his solo film - simply because this is his solo film.
On their way to the planet where Morgan Elsbeth is hiding, Sabine and Ahsoka learn that the New Republic Senate has not authorized a full-scale mission, but Hera promises to come up with something. Arriving at the planet, Ahsoka's ship is immediately attacked by the Eye of Sauron, a huge hyperspace accelerator. To make matters worse, their ship is damaged and they are forced to make an emergency landing on the surface. In addition, the Imperial Loyalists are jamming communications and are unable to contact their allies. But Huyang establishes that there is an Imperial outpost nearby, where Ahsoka and Sabine go in the hope of finding some way to stop the enemies.
The outpost of the Empire turns out to be ancient ruins, where Shin is already waiting for Ahsoka and Sabine. Ahsoka declares that she has already defeated her once, to which Baylan Skoll, who appears “from around the corner,” says that this time Ahsoka will not fight with her. Baylan states that Morag Elsbeth has already received everything she needs, and all that remains is to install the last hyperspace engine before sending it to the target. A duel begins, in which Baylan fights Ahsoka, and Sabine is forced to face the Shin again, although this time she has an advantage in the form of her gadgets and beskar armor.
    continuation in comments

    • @kindofilya7513
      @kindofilya7513 Před 8 měsíci +5

During the duel, Baylan constantly manipulates Ahsoka's feelings. He tells her that he followed her “crusade” across the galaxy, that she is not too different from her teacher, tells her about the fall of the Jedi Order and the misfortunes that followed the survivors. In the end, he manages to defeat Ahsoka, disarming her but not killing her. At the same time, Shin still defeats Sabine again and is about to kill her, but Beilan stops her hand by simply slowing down his student’s lightsaber using the Force. Shin is furious and even takes a step forward as if preparing to attack his teacher, while Beilan remains calm. In this scene we see the contrast between the teacher and his student.
Beilan sees Sabine's deep thoughts. He knows that years ago she lost not just a friend, but a lover, and now she yearns to have him back. He calls her with him, telling her that Thrawn will return in any case, and in Sabine he feels a kindred spirit - the one who lost everyone who was close to her, the one who was betrayed by those she trusted. And he is ready to help her. At this time, Ahsoka declares that Sabine should not be listened to, that the Empire cannot rise. However, she gives out some phrase like “Ezra’s life is not worth such sacrifices!”, which pushes Sabine away from her and forces her to accept Beilan’s offer. Enraged and unable to control herself, Ahsoka releases a wave of dark force energy, causing the ruins in which the action takes place to collapse and Ahsoka herself to fall somewhere into the darkness below.
The next episode is all about Ahsoka. She finds herself in ancient catacombs, built on one of the “places of power.” And these catacmobs act as a "place of power" on Dagobah, where Luke ended up in the original Trilogy. This is where all the same “flashbacks” with Anakin, Darth Vader and the Clone Wars take place. Only Ahsoka is tormented by what she has become. She thinks about how she followed the path of Darth Vader, and that perhaps she was always destined to follow her master's path. However, the main lesson for her in this episode, and all meetings with
Hayden Christensen - Anakin, is that she is not her teacher. And that even Darth Vader had "light" at the end. Ahsoka realizes that she should not have been the Punisher, that she has strayed too far from the path of the Jedi. In other words, she gains “inner” balance, which ultimately allows her to leave the catacombs.
In the next episode, Hera, just like in the series, begins an unauthorized mission, recruiting a small force to stop the Imperial Loyalists. Taking advantage of her role as not only a general, but also a war hero, and also giving some small speech, she leads her squad to the planet in whose orbit the “Eye of Sauron” is hovering. However, she fails to stop the space station from leaving. As a result, she meets with Ahsoka, who lies to Hera about Sabine being captured. Ahsoka uses, God forgive me, space whales to go after Elsbeth, and Hera returns to the Republic, where they are preparing to condemn her for violating a direct order.
But during this episode, Hera manages to collect evidence that one of the Senators (the same Asian senator from the series) is in fact a Loyalist of the Empire, and that it was he who covered the cell on Correllia and deliberately slowed down Hera’s mission. This, in turn, allows her to “get away with it.”
In the next episode, Morag Elsbeth, Sabine, Balon Skoll and Shin arrive on the planet to which the ancient map led. A planet appears before them, which is the embodiment of duality. Part of the planet is lush jungles and beautiful fields, while the other part is ash wastelands and lava seas. The planet is full of dangerous predators and a wide variety of natural traps. And here such things await us as fragments of the earth flying in the air, lightning striking directly from the bowels of the earth, etc. And in the midst of all this Chaos, our “villains” find Thrawn.
And Thrawn has seriously changed. He literally appears to us as a religious Zealot. He is obsessed with the idea of building an eternal, indestructible empire. He is served by the Night Mothers of Dathomir, who use their magic in favor of Thrawn. Thrawn's stormtroopers are religious fanatics, absolutely and unquestioningly loyal to Thrawn. Their armor is decorated with golden religious ornaments, ancient fetishes and strange symbols. Thrawn's officers wear gold masks and do not show their faces. In fact, we see a perverted cult growing out of the fusion of the Imperial ideology of the faith of the Witches of Dathomir.
The Imperials, loyal to Morgan Elsbeth and former officers of the Imperial Army, look at Thrawn with concern, because he is not what they expected. But they have to obey him. Thrawn, in turn, tells Morgan that the planet they find themselves on is Mortis - a place between galaxies where perhaps the Force is strongest. And that the ancient ancestors of the Dathomirians, whose descendants are the Night Witches, revealed to him a lot about the structure of the galaxy. Thrawn tells Elsbeth that she has served him well, and that they will soon return to the Galaxy, which he could not do before, since he did not know the way.
At the same time, her ship arrives in Mortis’s orbit. Space whales - pergloves - are drawn to Mortis because they are force-sensitive creatures, so Ahsoka would 100% end up in Mortis's orbit. Next, we are still waiting for the fighters to chase Ahsoka’s ship, as a result of which she has to hide on the planet.
At the same time, Thrawn releases Sabine into the wastelands of Mortis to search for Ezra. From his point of view, she will either die or finally lead him to Bridger, who has been hiding somewhere on the surface of Mortis for 10 years. At the same time, Beilan Skoll decides to leave Elsbeth. It turns out that it was Mortis who was looking for, because he was disillusioned with the path of the Jedi, and the path of the Sith was not for him. Balon wants to find a different path, something between Darkness and Light, and the best place to do this is Mortis. At the same time, he tells Shin that she remains here because the Empire is her place, since her path is the path of the dark side of the force, because she will not be able to comprehend anything else. Shin tries to attack Balon, but he easily disarms and defeats her, as Thrawn watches with a smile.
Once on the planet, Ahsoka manages to sense Sabine, whom she finds and saves from a group of humanoid predators that almost defeated her, simply by sheer numbers and physical strength. After which, Ahsoka suddenly senses the presence of Ezra, whom they go to look for. Eventually, the two heroines find Ezra in the ancient Temple on the "Light Side" of Mortis, where Ezra has been living among a primitive race of force-sensitive creatures for the past 10 years. And, Ezra is horrified. The fact that they are here on Mortis means that the way is open and that Thrawn can leave. Ezra says that Thrawn and his Night Mothers have learned secrets that must not be released into the galaxy, because if they do, something even more terrible than the Empire awaits them. However, at
this time we are waiting for a declaration of love from Sabine, which smooths out the conflict, because Ezra also retained feelings for her all these years. The heroes realize that they must stop Thrawn and prevent him from escaping.
At this time, we are also treated to scenes in which Shin, in fact, becomes a student of Morgan Elsbeth, who decides to teach her the ways of power of the Witches of Dathomir.
Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra travel to Thrawn's fortress-temple, where his Destroyer prepares to depart with the help of the Eye of Sauron. There they have to face zombie stormtroopers, revived with the help of the Witches' sorcery. Ahsoka cuts undead soldiers into pieces, and even Sabine has to use Ezra's lightsaber, which she carries with her as a reminder, because blasters are not very effective against the undead. Ezra destroys his enemies with pure force, and we see how much stronger he has become. Ezra states that this is exactly what he fears - the Empire of monsters and the dark magic that Thrawn will bring to the galaxy. At the end, Sabine and Ezra encounter Shin and defeat her, although she manages to escape while Ahsoka kills Morgan Elsbeth. But despite the strength of the heroes, Thrawn manages to escape. Although Ezra and Sabin infiltrate the Destroyer, thanks to the fact that Ahsoka, with the help of force, holds the docking ramp. But as a result of this, Ahsoka herself gets stuck on Mortis.
In the end, we still see Balon against the background of the monuments of the "Family of Force Creatures" (or whatever they are called in the canon), Ezra and Sabine arrive to Hera and the New Republic with dark Thoughts, and Ahsoka decides to explore Mortis, having studied the ways of the Force , and perhaps find something that will help them defeat Thrawn, with whom they will soon have to wage war again.

I would listen to the superchats as well. They talk abut the MCU, Star Wars, One Piece, Resident Eviil, and Saw 10. My personal favorites were "bad theater experiences" and "no decapitations for Zombie Stormtroopers.
Note for the Robyn Hood portion: Critical Drinker wasn't able to put sound up for the trailer. Take a moment to look up "Robyn Hood trailer" on youtube before they start talking about it. Should be about 1 minute long, but by god does it have a load of cringe for you. Best to have context... even if it hurts.

Speaking of censoring butts, not only did Disney censor Splash, they also changed the '94 X-Men cartoon. Jean Grey's costume was a bit too thong-like, so on D+ they changed it to give more coverage.

on that discussion about morals around 33:00, it's made even worse by the fact that in order to present their belief that doing something obviously bad is actually good, they have to perform mental
gymnastics within the writing to make sure the people (Asian general man) are portrayed the right way (according to them) to make that come off.

I always hate it when the critical voice in the story is just made "annoying" early on and everyone acts like being annoying makes them wrong. This, the SWORD guy in WandaVision being mildly smug in a meeting, etc.
It's like the Ned's girlfriend in School of Rock being 100% right to wanna throw Dewey out for never paying rent, so she's cast as Sarah Silverman being bitchy and condescending so we side against her even though she's still right.
Then I compare both these to Andor, how there's the smug intelligence bureau guy who's always talking down to Dedra in the meetings calling her unprofessional; but the boss is straightup with her "No, he's right. You _have_ no evidence. Bring me evidence, or let him do his job." . . . And rather than bitching about how all the boys are being sexist and worse at her job than she is, Dedra . . . goes and gets evidence, and when the coworker starts his shit again she calmly posits that he's the one who probably should've been on top of this rather than letting her do his job for him and acting smug to cover his own ass.
Another thing is Lucas _never_ wasted time on this.
You know who's the naysayer character in Star Wars? Han Solo.

If Disney and Lucasfilm insist on having these perfect girlbosses, the least they could do is get actresses that can sell it. As it is, we're forced to pretend that Ahsoka is not just keeping up with Anakin but besting him when she obviously isn't. Also, I wondered if there was a mandated amount of girl/girl fights they had to work in, just as KK ordered a specific number of fights between Kenobi and Anakin (2, iirc) in the Kenobi show. That could explain why they didn't make much sense, especially Ahsoka and Morgan being left alone to fight.
Re Mauler mentioning coping comments of "Wait for the next season!": yes I've seen those. I've also seen people blaming Ray Stevenson's death on why Baylan was underused, which is pretty low as well as being untrue.

Watching Rosario Dawson fight scenes is like watching a de-aged Deniro in Irishman beat someone up. Like yeah you deaged him but he still moves around like an 80 year old man. The choreography is awful. Everything looks thought out and telegraphed. It looks less like fighting and more like watching a bad dance routine.
Filoni does cartoons and it reeeeeally shows here. That means 30 min episodes that end where they started essentially. I think deeper writing eludes him.

It’s weird watching the cope about every series Filoni is over just needs like 4 years to actually get going or that he and his team need to ‘start over’ for some reason.

The entire premise of force ghosts destroys the canon of the universe.
Why didn't Anakin Skywalker appear in front of the Council and tell the exact location of the enemy forces, who they are and what to expect? Dead Jedi being able to appear anywhere, see everything going on would be unstoppable. There is literally no logical reason why the bad guys would even stand a chance.

Do you remember which ep or scene that was in? I always thought it was an application of the weird stealth potion thing. The attempted Assaj Ventress and Witches assassination attempt on Dooku was what I thought they were using, since that showed us how it was like from the witches' perspective.
That being said, the power is still dumb and inconsistent. Because there's some degree of precog with the Jedi and Sith, so having an invisible foe seems rather counter-intuitive as they clearly sense with more than just the eyes.
