    Due to risk of damage, myself wouldn't install the crank seals until the crank was pressed in and the cases mated.

      That's a really good point and great idea. I'm just so used to my kawis which have to be installed from the inside , so I always do them early. Thanks for the tip!

    How long do you recommend freezing the bearings for and do you freeze the crank ??

  • @VonDoodle42
    @VonDoodle42 Před 5 lety +14

    Hammering the crank into its bearings will ruin the cranks true!!

      @garonburwell9008 Před 3 lety +1

      that's the difference between pros and amateurs. also there's alot better ways to install a seal than at 5:10 or so. your engine is always treated better than this at our shop guaranteed.

      Beating on that crank isn't doing you any favors. You can knock one out of true in two ways.

    Got another question the bearing oil seal do you pack any kind of grease in them?

    • @mxgryan
      @mxgryan  Před 4 lety +1

      I never have, no. I do lightly coal the seal on the inside and outside edges before install, but thats been it.

  • @EuroTrashTV.

    About how long did the whole process take? Like taking everything off and back together

    • @mxgryan
      @mxgryan  Před 3 lety +2

      A decently experienced mechanic with no distractions could do this in a half day.
      If you're a normal guy that doesn't do it often taking your time, set aside a weekend for good measure.

    Hi I’m rebuilding a yz250, I replaced the bearings along with the bearing cap/seals and the crank as well. When I went to put the casing back together, it didn’t want to fully seet down. I ended up getting it about a quarter inch away from being fully flush but it won’t go the rest of the way down. When i tried putting a few screws in the block and lightly torquing them down to see if it would help, it caused the crank to freeze up and also made no difference in the gap in the block. Any ideas?

    • @TylerRothwell
      @TylerRothwell Před rokem

      The cases should not be bolted to close, that will cause tension in the crankcase and everything will freeze up, make sure the cases fully seat before torque is applied by bolts

      I like one minute with regular propane. MAP is nice, but most only have a propane set up. You want to get the area about 250-300 F. Lick your finger and quickly touch the area. When it sizzles you're probably good.

    Takes alot more than that to hurt a bearing. As long as youbdont bash the living shit out of the boss part "the middle" its fine.

      Agreed, if the tapping is on the outer race or both, its usually okay. Additionally, I'm not hitting that hard but the audio from the video makes it seem that way. This bike still runs.
