  • Local Kalamazoo author and Professor of Comparative Religion at Western Michigan University, Brian C. Wilson discusses his recent book, "Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and the Religion of Biologic Living." From 1876 to 1943, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg presided over the Battle Creek Sanitarium, an institution which was one of the largest and best known health and wellness facilities in the United States-"a combination nineteenth-century European health spa and a twentieth-century Mayo Clinic." In his talk, Professor Wilson traces this fascinating history, emphasizing the role Dr. Kellogg's developing religious views played in the rise and fall of the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Presented Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Kalamazoo Public Library. kpl.gov

You should also consider Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of Osteopathy, when mentioning 1900's treatments that were not allopathic in origin.

A very interesting video. Seven Day Adventists are among the longest living people in the world, certainly Kellogg's belief in high fiber vegan diets and clean living speaks to his authority. Eugenics is a difficult subject for many but its apparent that we are faced with an idiocracy in the USA. It seems even the most simple task is beyond the grasp of too many people.

"Seven Day Adventists are among the longest living people in the world"
Seventh day adventists are very good at pushing this untrue myth...

If you are in or near Kalamazoo, then you are near Battle Creek. I recommend you go there to the "Adventist Village" , take a tour and buy some books at the book store they have. Don't go on a Sabbath afternoon for the tour, because the store will be closed.

WorldChangers MinistryInternational Ouch!! ;) Posting these sound bites is hardly the place to lay out the research, don't you think? For instance, William Miller was raised from about 4 years old in Low Hampton New York. Married Lucy and moved to her hometown in Vermont (about 4 miles away) and after the war of 1812, the battle of Plattsburg especially in 1814, he moves back to Low Hampton New York and by 1818, the Deist is converted to Christianity by a number of experiences, lastly while reading a sermon in the church he attended with his mother. That was 1816. By 1818 he had interpreted Daniel 8:14 and its 2300 days to the cleansing of the sanctuary to be the cleansing of the earth by fire at the second coming of Jesus, hence; in or about 1843 the end of the world would come. In the 1845 Albany conference, the Millerites, called Adventists, met and would later organize into two groups. The Evangelical Adventists and the Advent Christian Church. A small group, not part of the Albany conference, would by 1846 accept the Sabbath and by 1860 organize into the Seventh-day Adventist Church, now the largest body of Adventist believers (over 18 million). The Evangelical Adventist are defunct by the turn of the century, circa 1904 and the Advent Christians Church is rather small today at over 25,000, even a bit smaller than they were in 1925. The Millerite remarks can be found in The Midnight Cry, F.D. Nichol 1944 and William Miller: The Rise of Adventism by George Knight 2010, and other sources as well.

WorldChangers MinistryInternational Oh, and FYI. I am not just critical of the guy. I am excited he is speaking on this. I just wish he had he history together better. Just so you know. I am very well informed on this history, including teaching it, so much so, with little or no notes.

Medically speaking he was a genius. People should read his books. They are not holistic health they are medical and very complex

Às a direct decendent of Dr. Kelloggs "kids" I find it very offence to be censored for trying to speak out! THE REAL "TRUTH" will eventually come out! They can't stand , any opposition to their beliefs!
