    This is exactly what I wanted (needed) to hear! I have X wing 1.0 with a few extra ships for both Rebel and Empire/First Order. I was considering spending the $150 or so to get the new core set and both up grade sets. For a casual player though like myself, Nahh..... I’ll save my money and get the new Mansions of Madness expansion 😁. I’ll continue to play 1.0. Thanks!!!

    After listening to your Whitney song, I don't believe you're quite ready for your Las Vegas Impersonator lounge show guy act yet. XD

    The key thing 2.0 addresses is the major power creep that has come in over the years. I stopped playing XW a year ago because it had become unbalanced. 2.0 fixes that to a large degree. If you have a large collection (especially of only a single faction) you can get away with a single upgrade kit, download the rules and proxy a few cards/tokens. In casual play it works.

    Glad to hear someone addressing X-Wing 2.0 for those, like me, who are X-Wing curious. Thank you. I have been interested in X-Wing for a while, as I started to get more interested in gaming as my son has become older and interested in playing things beyond Sorry and Monopoly, but I held off on X-Wing because I read about 2.0 arriving. Glad I waited -- my son will be getting this for his birthday this month, and then as he gets older, we can add more ships in this revised system. We will likely remain casual players, and not go whole hog on scores of ships. But would you recommend his starting out with two core sets? Also, have you hear any rumours of an Armada 2.0? I am interested in Armada, but would hate to start down that path and find out it was being overhauled as well.

      Happy to help. If you're going to jump into the game, I would absolutely start with two core sets. Not only do you get three more ships, but you also get more tokens, and you each get a range ruler and movement templates. It will take some organization of your ship cards, as you can only have one unique ship card per game (you can't have two Luke Skywalkers in a game, for instance). Between Armada and X-Wing, I really prefer Armada. It's much more strategic and has much more depth. It sounds like X-Wing would be a better fit for a young son, however. Regarding Armada 2.0- we didn't know about X-Wing 2.0 until we did. Fantasy Flight Games is famous for keeping tight lipped about their products until they reveal it, so it's unlikely you'd hear any rumors about it before it they announced it. X-Wing came out in 2012, and Armada came out in 2015, however. Unless X-Wing 2.0 takes off in a big way, I don't expect they'll do something similar with Armada. Right now it's too early to tell.

      Thanks for this -- all very helpful! And I am delighted you have managed to continue your reviews while working toward your Ph.D. My son and I are both big fans.

    Spend more money to continue playing what is essentially the same game - "Let the anger flow through you".

      Indeed.

      Well, its a revised and "new" edition of the same game. This is true for many games, especially in video games where people shell out full price EVERY YEAR for what is "essentially the same game". They did it alrite, stepping on the least amount of toes.
      I cannot think of any better alternative for how FFG could transition into a new edition with a game as component heavy as X-wing.

    What was this video about? I learned nothing about 2.0 other than some of the cards are different sizes.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 5 lety +1

      That was the point- there really is not much difference between the two.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer Say it aint so. I put another $100 into converting just my Imperial ships and the new core set. I also sold all my Rebel ships. There is no "learning to play" videos out there that I can find. Can I just go to my local shop with my app constructed 200 point squad and play?

      @@tbga1970 I feel you, man. I'm sure FFG will come up with some fun new stuff for this game, but going off the core game- it just doesn't play all that different.
