Anna May Wong again portrays a woman of poise and dignity, and quiet power.
This episode caught my eye because I am Filipino, born, raised, and still living in Manila. I’m well aware the scenes were mostly shot in a set but I do appreciate the establishing shot at the 7:47 mark of the Pasig river and the buildings lining one of the banks. The prominent FGU Business Group sign stood atop an actual structure, the Filipinas Insurance Company Building in Plaza Moraga, Manila in the 1950s.
Since you are Filipino, I was wondering if you can trace a 1957 film that I have been desperately looking for. It's called "Sweethearts" 1957 and starred Shirley Gorospe, Lisa Gaye and Zaldy Zshornack, who was a very popular actor during the 50's. No one seems to have any knowledge of this rare movie. It was a Filipino film shot in the USA in 1957 utilizing the popular services of Rock 'N Roll Queen, LISA GAYE. If you use the Google search engine, you can spot a page advertisement of this rare Filipino musical. Thank you for any answer you can give me.

What I know about this episode is that it comes from the collection of Anna May Wong. Wasn't she the actress who had a prominent role in the Lana Turner-Anthony Quinn starer "Portrait in black". I am also assuming that this episode is from the series: Adventures in Paradise, with Gardner McKay in the lead role. The quality of the episode is fairly good, given that most of the episodes from this series is terrible. I did buy a commercial set just for the episode " Wild Mangoes" that guest starred my top fave, LISA GAYE, but the quality of this episode was deplorable. I notice Julie London is a guest in this episode. Once a very beautiful woman during the 40's and 50's [The Red House, The girl can't help it, Night of the quarter moon], here she is looking rather thin and wan.
Your assumptions are correct. I have yet to see Portrait in Black, but just now I’m starting King of Chinatown. One of the only movies where she isn’t forced to play an evil Oriental woman, and gets to have a love interest, with an Asian man of course.
Julie London was the ne plus ultra of torch singers back in the day. I don’t think she was ever really robust, but I’m not sure that your opinion is wrong or not.
