What has worked for me if any situation arises like this is to agree with the caller to pay, only by check, and ask for a mailing address. They will either try arguing with you about the payment method, or just hang up cause they think you're trying to locate them for prosecution.

The "fake bill" scam isn't limited to cruise lines. I have gotten fake bills from Best Buy, Mcafee, Paypal, and others which looked authentic on first inspection. The usual rule of calling the company using a phone number off the company website identified these fake bills for what they were. Tip: If you call a phone number to check a bill and immediately get a real person, be suspicious.

  • @crystalglass1358

IMPORTANT!!! Hi Don! Not only should you check with your travel agency or the cruise line (and not the number the scammer provides you) if you suspect you've been targeted with one of these scams, wait at least 1/2 an hour to call or call back on a different phone. Scammers are employing a new technology as of late. When you hang up to call a different number to verify, they don't disconnect on the other end for 15 minutes or more. Whatever number you call, you'll hear a ring tone and someone will answer but they'll still be on the other end and may even get a different person to answer so it seems legit. This has also been happening with bank and credit card company scams so beware! Also, the fact that these scammers have your info means your cruise company's database has been hacked and ALL the info they have on you has been compromised. This is very serious!

If you owed additional money, the cruise line would simply charge your credit card of record. If they communicate by any other secondary means, it's a scam. Just ignore.

I’d laugh in their face and tell them to tell Debbie at the collection agency that Robert said “Hi and how are the kids?” 😂 Collection agencies stopped scaring me by the time I was 20 years old. So threatening me with reporting me to one carries about as much weight as saying they will report me to a stuffed animal. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Something similar is happening with airlines, especially the big ones. It operates as follows: they pay to get their websites on top of the search results. Customers think they are on the airline website, and contact the scam call center instead. They get every information they need from the caller to evade the security verification from the airline, request the service on behalf of the customer using their own form of payment, and then charge the caller's real card way more than what the service actually costs. They even send a fake receipt or invoice. Make sure you access the actual airline website.

And That's what the agency did! If it was not from Princess's inside job, then how did the agency get all that infos!!!! Cruise lines have safety measures in place to stop people from getting off the ship with an unpaid bill. Or running up a huge bill and not paying it. Always assume a call or email like this is a scam and call the cruise line directly to verify.

  • @MichelleAlexandria-EM
    @MichelleAlexandria-EM Před 6 měsíci +8

Well, my trip is over, I don't care if I suddenly "owe" more money. They should have got it before I was on the ship. And these companies have your credit card info on file, they will automatically charge your card if you owe anyway.

Like you said, if you owe the ship money, they will charge whatever you have on your account whether it is a debit or credit card. Before you get off the ship, print out your invoice next to customer service. With Princess, I was watching our account on the Medallion app. We never go over what we have for OBC so the likelihood of that happening to us is nil. I always love it when a get OBC refunded to me even though it takes a long time to get it.

Your video put me on alert because I just got off the Wonder of the Seas a week ago and I just got a call from Royal Caribbean. I was going to hear them out because I thought it would be fun to listen to the scammer but surprisingly it was actual Royal Caribbean following up on the survey. I was disappointed, surprised and happy all at the same time. I was very surprised and happy that Royal does read the surveys and you can make a difference (or be heard). Just be aware, it may sometimes be the cruise line on the phone (but always be cautious). Thanks for the video!

They obviously work for the cruise line…there is no way that someone could get all that personal information otherwise. I won about 7 jackpots on Carnival Glory in July and by September someone had used my name and SSN to get a loan. I always wondered if it could be a Carnival worker…usually they give you your winnings form (for the IRS) before you debark but this cruise they said it would be emailed but eventually it was mailed almost a month later. I thought it was weird.

Appears that cruise line databases are being hacked. Isn't there a legal requirement for cruise companies to notify their customers? Or does that depend on what flag the ship carries vs the location of company headquarters? Customers should be notified!! If you’re on board already it’s a scam. If you owe a penny, you’re not getting on.

Somehow the wrong people are getting their grubby paws on the cruise rosters. Inside? A computer leak? Whatever just as Don said, you aren’t getting off that ship until you’re paid up! Getting off the Carnival Celebration after a b2b2b and they dragged me back to pay up getting off the ship after the 3rd leg of it. I was told by customer service that my info was going to be submitted for the 3rd cruise but it wasn’t. We went all week, the entire time without getting flagged anywhere on the ship until we were disembarking. I had no clue until then thst they did not have my cc info, besides being shocked and embarrassed I was a bit pi$$ed that they did not attempt to contact me at the very start of that 3rd week of the 3 cruises. So if you get a notice post cruise you are getting scammed!

Like others, I'm confused as to how these scammers know what cruise you recently were on. Seems like an inside job to me.

It's not necessarily an employee. It's most likely a dadt breach.

No way would you ever board a cruise if it wasn't fully paid for before boarding or disembarkment from your cruise.
Don, your advice is exactly what I would do. I go direct to the company. Someone tried scamming me on a booking overseas that was fully paid for before leaving home. My Travel Agent had warned me it may happen, so I think it may have been a fairly common scam at the time except it was back in 1979 in Penang. The driver attempting to say I had only paid for the tour, not for him as our driver. Needless to say, thanks to being pre-warned it made it easy to send him packing with nothing. Mind Imwas travelling with my mother and sh wasn't happy that I refused to pay the man. I final got my point over to her, that he was trying to scam us. If I was wrong, where were the Police.

If you get a phone call or a letter or an email saying you still owe money from your cruise, I’m going to guess that you belong to one or more cruising Facebook groups. You know all those warnings about not posting your cruise details on Facebook? Not only is doing that an open invitation for thieves to break into your home while you’re away, you also risk being targeted in the “you still owe us money” scam.
It doesn’t matter if the Facebook group is private, scammers join those groups all the time - I see it every day. I’ve seen people post questions in these groups to get help with something, and they provide their cruise details or include a screenshot of them. Folks, nobody in those groups need the cruise voyage number or dates, your address or booking number, so DO NOT provide that. If you’re going to post a screenshot, black out your name and address (physical and email), and most importantly, the voyage and booking numbers! THAT’S what scammers are looking for. They don’t need anything from the cruise lines to scam people!
