  • This video shows you how to remove the air dam on a 2015-2020
    Chevy Colorado. You do not need to remove the entire front fascia or cut anything. This is 100% bolt on/off, and can be returned to stock at any time.
    Only simple tools are needed. A T-15 Torx socket and a 10mm socket.

    If I ever want to remove mine I'll just let my wife drive it for 1/2 a day....that air dam will end up in a ditch or a parking lot or a median somewhere and my wife will have no idea what happened

    Just removed from my 2021 Z71 this past weekend and boy oh boy is it easier than the 2015-2020 models. Literally just get under there and unscrew about 10 or so 8mm screws and pop it off. All the bolt heads face down towards the floor instead of up towards the engine too.

    After watching this and reading the comments, I removed mine pretty easily. I have a 2016 Z71 Duramax, not sure if there are differences between years/trim levels.
    What I did differently:
    1) don't remove the 7mm bolt (makes reassembly easier).
    2) used a right angle ratcheting screwdriver, and it is very easy to remove.
    3) started at one end and went across to the other end, no need to work from outside in, the center screws were actually the easiest to remove.
    4) moved the nut clips to the bumper cover so it can easily be reinstalled from below. Two screws will not fit because they interfere with the plastic fender liner bracket things - I believe it was the second screw from each end of the air dam. I'll probably leave it off, but it's nice to have options.

I know working on truck is a guy thing; I respect that for sure. I have no where to really work on my truck. Plus it is and new under warranty. This time if something went wrong it’s on them and I’m covered. On the Colorado it was on page 218 or so; funny they say to take it off but make it a nightmare to do. I find it strange how the screws are face down on the Colorado but my sierra which is the same year has the screws easily accessible as they are inverted. Except the last 1 on either side in the wheel well which are still very easy

      @fondupot  Před 6 lety

      Craig Quann i know right. I had a 2014 sierra and I also removed the air dam. Don't get me wrong it's still pretty easy on the coly.

    You really don't need to remove that plastic peace from the wheel well if you just remove the three screws that are holding it to the front bumper it lifts up enough to remove the screws from the air dam. Good video though! And all it would have taken to make this easy would be for chevy to install the screws head side down...

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 6 lety +1

      Maybe. I found it easier to remove that piece to get better access. Overall it's still not difficult to remove as it is. Never understood the hate and complaints this drew from so many people. It's only slightly inconvenient.

    • @MattyKnox
      @MattyKnox Před 5 lety +1

      Correct. I did it both ways and I will say it's much easier with the plastic peice removed. Faster too.

    What you are removing is so that the air hits the radiator more and the car does not overheat.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 měsíci

      My truck has never overheated since removing this. It’s just for aerodynamics for fuel economy. And I didn’t notice much change there either.

  • @19mick89
    @19mick89 Před 2 lety +1

    They really kind of screw you with that don't they... All they would have to do is turn those metal clips over and run the bolts in from the bottom up with just a little bit of loctite then you can take it off and put it back on in 5 minutes

    • @fondupot

      Interesting. I monitored mine for a while after and never noticed a difference in temps. Have you ever done a trans fluid and filter service? I’d recommend it be done every 50k miles on an 8 speed.

  • @MattyKnox

    It's not difficult to remove the air damn. Yes, would be nice if the bolt heads faced down but oh well. Job is even easier with a helper to push where you need it to give yourself a little extra space. Easy day.

    My air dam removed itself on a water bar on a national forest back road. What a horrible engineering design by GM. You would think someone in the office while designing an off road vehicle would have questioned the clearance of a Toyota Corolla on this truck. And those 2 ply exploding tires were a really well thought out standard feature also. GM engineers must be pointy-headed snowflakes.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 2 lety

      It’s meant to be ripped off easily for the exact reason you experienced. The manual also says to remove it for off-road activities. The air dam is meant for use on the highway.

      @@fondupot the funny part is that I've never seen one on the road with the air dam still attached. GM should have thought it out better. Government regulations to make sure they got that extra one mpg.

      Shows what you know. I bought a '15 Colorado with a whopping 14,000 miles on it a few weeks ago. My wife and I signed the papers, and headed for our favorite snowy-day trail. Off road 45 minutes after we signed the papers. The Z71 includes a rear locker and is definitely a capable off-road package.
