Never has one man put so much effort into judging the colour of shades of green paint.
Bravo.
Haha never has one person been more crazy haha
I found that the Nostalgia '94 range from WarColours has a great Goblin Green!
That is my favourite
Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for more OG warhammer content👍
This is a great series. It is really interesting to see how some of the paint manufacturers must have done similar research to match up to the original or the french era Goblin Greens, and while some are closer than others, none of them are so far off that it would probably be a bother until your buddy with real original color put his bases next to yours. Tip of the hat to the good fellows who donated the older variants!
I feel your pain. That original pot of green is almost gone (got it in 1996) and I cannot for the life of me find a replacement in the GW lineup. My solution was Vallejo Model Color German Cammo Bright Green 080.
How close is it?

Excellent video man
Excellent summary to this brief series; the added comparison to the OG is invaluable. Nostalgia 88 seems like a great choice for my Battle Masters bases!
Awesome video and super helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this. This is one of the most comprehensive goblin comparisons I've come across.
Glad it was helpful!
To my eyes it looks sort of like this;
Coat d'arms Goblin Green = OG Goblin Green
Nostalgia 88 = Hexpot Goblin Green
Warboss Green = French Hexpot Goblin Green
Would you agree that's a decent enough assessment? Obviously it's pretty hard to compare this sort of stuff through a camera!
I actually think I would agree with this!
First comment 😊 . I really appreciate your video ☺️. Classic color!
Army Painter's Mouldy Clothes is close to OG GG...
i have been using vallejo model colour intermediate green. not perfect but i love the colour! i use it on my sylvaneth bases and the rims of my tzeentch stuff!
I want to do my Beast Snagga's and eventually the rest of my Orks in the retro goblin green bases and green felt from back in the day (00-03 for myself). This video was very helpful!!
Glad it was of help to you!
I saw a video on Eons of Battle that uses P3 Wurm Green and it looks so good!
I keep hearing about different paints so there may be a part 4 haha thanks for the info
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming I’m personally going to check out the liquitex lime green gouache too. Ultimately I don’t care if it is slightly too bright or too bold - it can be authentic to the period without being entirely accurate. The problem with most paints now is that they are diluted with white or black pigments and their pigment density is low. If an artist paint like a liquitex guilloche is actually too bold then maybe it would have been a more impressive thing to use in 1993 than goblin green in the first place, never mind 2023.
Yeah I've used P3 Wurm Green and it looks good.
I'm glad that you enjoyed making these videos. Now can you do the same for Crimson Gore? I really miss the early hex pot version.
Haha another paint quest!
Now do bilious green 😅
I do want to cover a few other classic colours
i dont know if you care much after so much testing but ive read on embscomputerart (huge blog article on the original citadel paint range on there) that apparently the original goblin green is just a single pigment Chromium Oxide Green (or PG17). I might pick up a bottle of Liquitex soft body acrylics of that out of curiosity soon, but i have no way to compare to the original.
Brilliant thanks and yep I still care haha. I will look into this
This is intriguing but going by the swatches on the Liquitex site it would seem closer to light emerald green than chromium oxide green.
I wonder if any of the new Fanatic range of paints come close to yhe original goblin green?
Part four? Haha
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming definitely 😁
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming Also theres the reformulated Vallejo Game Color & Vallejo Model Color so I'd say a 4th chapter is due! :D
@@lectric oh my. OK I'd better start buying them for the video!
well done for ending this saga, at least until another modern contender turns up.
So this series could be like the Friday 13th movie series? It goes on after the final chapter? Haha
Alright I feel like Im losing my mind here.
I bought N88 goblin green and it looks NOTHING like yours. Your goblin green is more pale, more unsaturated, while mine is more 'actually green'. And now Im not sure if it has to do with your camera, or I got a bad batch.
It’s his camera making it look pale and less green. If you look at the thumbnail for the video it’s closer to the real life colours.
I’ve got some old bases I painted with hex pot goblin green in the mid 90’s, looks a lot greener than this video recording.
Waiting for some N88 to be delivered myself. I’ve got some coat d’arms already and it is slightly more saturated and warmer compared to my original bases, still very close though
Got my pot of N88 today and it is definitely a lot greener and more saturated compared to my original hex pot goblin green.
If I were you I’d get some of the coat d’arms paint, it’s almost an exact match, definitely a lot closer than n88.
@@clarkey7760 Thank you for the update! Sorry I didnt reply earlier, youtube didnt notify my of your comment, thank you very much. I'll give the Coat d'Arms a try!
How is it still smooth? After a while Citadel gets chunkier than a depressed chick at a cake convention
WHich citedal paint? THe originals? They were better back then. The newer Warboss Green is pretty much on the way out now as yep modern Citadel paints bite the big one haha
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming I got some brand new ones that didn't last very long and all my bugmans glow are chunked up. Vallejos paint night kits paints don't last but a year of your lucky. I got some tyrant skull dry from 2008 and it's chunkier and actually becomes dry🤣 I mean they're still usable but gotta be thinned out a lil. have u messed with any of the army painter speed paints yet?
