WOOT! MIRACLE IS MY GRAND DAUGHTER!!!! SOOOO PROUD OF HER!!!!!
She is such a wonderful young lady!
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 thank you! We are all very proud of her!
Awesome job Billy love the earth ship movement.
Appreciate it my friend!
It’s so nice to see young people who are not afraid to work hard! This is a great alternative that puts recycle repurpose reuse to work♻️
It really is my friend. Thanks so much for watching!
Earthships have some really neat concepts, primarily maximizing solar gain and storing it in a huge thermal mass while using earth tubes for ventilation as needed.
I don't think tires are the way to go for most people (it's for keeping your costs very minimal at the expense of huge amounts of labor.) I also looked into rammed earth and compressed earth blocks (CEB or PEB). I've settled on dry-stacking (and filling) cement blocks, insulation on the outside, and using a surface bonding cement/stucco to tie it together, and keeping the other concepts.
Using that along with a solar collector for hot water and radiant floor heating I'm hoping to need virtually no other heating. I'm considering earthen floors. It'll be a lot of work but probably less than I'd need to do work to pay someone else to do it after taxes.
They sure do my friend. Thanks for watching my friend!
There has to be an easier way to fill/pound those tires LOL
Very cool! I'm impressed with what they are doing and good on you for getting involved.
Thank you for the Video Billy
Of course my friend! Thanks for watching!
This is probably the best time of year for what y’all are doing there. Winter in Arizona is when y’all can work all day without killing yourself with the heat, but the season doesn’t last long. Summertime siesta is essential to survival there. I spent eight years in the Phoenix area, and for six months I pedaled a bicycle four miles to and from work in triple digits.
Good night my friend that’s pretty warm!
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 I am a has been, not a never was; I EARNED getting decrepit!
I am so excited to watch you chronicle this process!
Appreciate it my friend!
I have wanted to build an earthship for several years now, enjoying the videos.
Glad you’re enjoying these videos my friend!
Cool that you're doing this!
My folks live in a town that has one of the earlier earthships, the first in CO. When I was a little kid we went to a presentation on it, & I recently toured it when it was up for sale. I love the way they've made improvements on things like cooling using design similar to ancient Egyptian structures. Earth shelter with passive solar, in general, is a great choice when the solar orientation is available.
I totally agree my friend. Thanks for watching!
😂 coffee cup goes into the tire 😂I love it.
That’s right my friend!
There is hope for the future with ppl like that ! Love it!!!
Michael Reynolds harnessed his inspiration, insight, and knowledge and was motivated to use trash to build a structure that uses naturally occurring physical forces for light, heat and cool the structure and gather/store water. Natural Genius! Thank you.
Can’t wait to see the finished product
Me too my friend!
These young people are awesome. The older folks are too..
I agree my friend!
Very cool video!!!✌️😎👍✝️🙏🥱💤😴
Thank you so much!
I admire the concept of a home that is as bill free as it gets and accompanied with the conveniences we in this modern world are accustomed to. Why should we have to pay big brother and his big utility jerks for something I could produce myself.
When you get to the grey water filtration system, please (if you will) post detailed a detailed explanation of how it is constructed.
I really appreciate you sharing your experience building an earthship. I’ve been intrigued by them for a while, though I have not found many examples of them in rainy climates. If you are able to build a functional earthship in North Carolina, that would be some great inspiration to bring them to the east coast!
Appreciate it my friend. Stay tuned! Thanks so much for watching!
These are only good in arid areas though right?
Wouldn't the tires leach into the ground water?
Cool stuff
I would love to live in one of those.
I love earthship homes.
So do I my friend!
Loved the ladies doing a 7 minute tire poun, if I understood her correctly. Amazing. Though there are issues an earthship is definitely a community pyramid type building that will look so muchmore cheaper in 50 years!
This is awesome 👌 👏 👍
Thanks a lot my friend!
This is awesome 🤩
Thanks a lot my friend!
I thought a person getting into this type of thing would have known who Micheal Reynolds is first.
That’s quite an operation!
Well done thanks for breathing life into this awesome technology
Nice video ❤️ 👍
Appreciate it my friend!
I lived in Fort Worth during that storm. It was worse than you can imagine. No heat or water with no way to leave. The roads were total ice. While there are climates that can handle it Texas and it's fossil fuel based energy Texas is not.
Loved hearing the concept that an earth ship is similar to living in the middle of a thermos. It helped paint more of a picture of how it stays cool / warm 🙂 Great video!
Smarter, not harder…a beautiful miracle…this is awesome.
Brilliant idea,,awesome community 👏 👍 👌
Holy Cow! Is Perma Pastures doing the earth ship intern thing in New Mexico or Arizona?! I’ve been watching these videos for about 5 years now, I’m thinking about going myself.
In Arizona my friend!
That’s crazy. Does the tires leak any poison into the earth? This is absolutely amazing
From what I've read - it's uncertain, but probably nothing significant. These are old, used tires. You do everything you can to keep moisture away from the walls and foundation, so they should be very stable and there's no water movement to carry anything around. And since they're old there shouldn't be much off-gassing either.
@@oldmcdonaldshomestead Part of the point is finding a place for the tires instead of dumping them into the ocean / burying / burning them but ok
@@oldmcdonaldshomestead oh ok. Yeah I have some tires and wanted to see if I was going to use them or just trash them. Thank you
@@geoffxander7970 thank you ☺️
@@tomatito3824 sweet 😋 thank you
Alexander from Oaktown haha!
I did research on this method decades ago. Although the end result can be amazing, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
You would think after the decades of experience in building these structures, there would be a less time consuming way to pound the tires.
This is great, how did you find this event, opportunity.?
How does the earthship keep you out of the wars & other issue's going on around us, as the one lady was saying? 🤔
It's interesting & look fwd to seeing as much as possible from now to completion. Maybe build a barn or shed next.
But yeah .. the questions been asked ... rubber wears out, chemicals that are in the tires, leach first. What makes this a safe option to build with vs straw bales, sandbags or something similar?
Its much easier and faster packing the dirt if you cut the sidewall out. This method is insanely time consuming doing it by hand without a pneumatic tamper. Its a fine way to buukd though if you have free labor.
How long would something like that take for the average person to build?
Would using a hesco barrier with compact dirt be a good alternative or do the tires provide better structural support?
Shit that’s a lot of resources cool project tho
czcams.com/video/yB8NcasZN-c/video.html
It seems that if the top sidewall was cut out, like in this video, time an effort would be significantly improved!
Very interesting...I like reusing items to make things. A sustainable building is great. Do people use tires in all climates or just arid ones? I wonder how the last guy thinks projects work in solar if not with some type of profit making? Here in coastal NC we have put in 1,000's of acres of solar farms. Not sure they are so good... They take up land that was used for farming and the migratory waterfowl like swans don't use the areas any more.
I’ve seen builds that they fill the tires with dirt and now I see rocks in this video. Is it possible to fill them with sand instead ?
Do you know if there has been any studies with using tires and the chemicals leaching to the ground? It's awesome to recycle, but that would be a big concern for me.
Good point! Never thought of it!
Most of their off gassing is done right after they’re made and since we get them used it’s really not that bad, plus they need light and air to do so and they’re completely buried in the end
HAVE SEEN MANY VIDEOS WITH TIRES BUT THEY NEVER SHOW THE FINISH PRODUCT....
So when are you building yours! I'll come help pound some tires
how do they put a roof on an earth s hip?
I’m not sure my friend, but I will know how at the end of this!
Any conversations about the amount of topsoil erosion for soybeans vs. grass fed beef?🤧😝
If you don't have a pick handy, you can just pry it open with a level. 🤫😋
On a serious note, tho. It looks like they ram the bottom row with gravel, then all the others (?) with dirt? I see they put cardboard in the bottom, what keeps that from busting out while ramming?
So that’s who broke and bent my level…
Hey does anyone have Sabrina’s contact. I would like to talk to her about earthship from an architectural perspective. I have a few ideas would appreciate her feedback having worked on one.
I admire their work ethic, but I can't see the logic in spending years to build your house. Regarding no construction background, for centuries homes were build by people with no construction background. Its not rocket surgery. Plumb, Level, and square.
99% of these young people will never build an earthship of their own, but the experience teaches them how much work goes into things they never thought about AND teaches them a new respect for "dirty construction workers". (My buddies and I were once talked down to at McDonald's because we were so dirty. It had been a rough day.)
I hope everyone learns what they came there to learn.
Just a thought from a dumbassed welder... Why not cut out 1/2 or 1/3 of the sidewall on the TOP. Keep the "full sidewall"part facing the builder and have the cut out part be in the wall? Wouldn't that potentially help tie the wall together better and still have the "full tire" look and function on the outside of the wall?
Or.... Cut out the sidewall 100% on the top like you do for 'farm roads". It would fill and pound easier/faster and still be structurally sound..
Man, leave it to the greenies to slow the process down even more to build a house.
Are tired absolutely necessary?? Concrete? Or is mentioning this like insulting vegans lol
No construction background??? That's a lie, someone or multiple people there seem like they know what they're doing in terms of foundation etc.. because if that were true I would just throw them all down and cement them.. they're using levels and construction tools... Great way to mislead
The earth ship movement has been around for about five decades. It is, in theory, a very good idea. The only issue is, land. The majority of these communities are in areas that aren’t conducive to a larger carrying capacity. In other words, all of the resources that are grown will not sustain a larger population. Another land issue. If private citizens don’t own it than the government does. And even if you own the land the governments have their arbitrary regulations. Some states have homestead rights. But the choosing is slim, and usually contested for the choicest lots. Finally, there aren’t many people that live this life long-term. So the ambassador populace is nearly non existent. If a celebrity would get on board than it would take off. But even these “green” celebrities are just corporate shills. Like greta thunberg.
Dennis Weaver, a celebrity from the 50's onward, was the first to build an Earthship in CO. He even went on the road to educate & encourage. His place is still there. Historic & lovely. So celebrity status has already been tried. Codes are a challenge in most places. Radon needs to be mitigated for in many Western areas.
@@asktheanimals see reference: “… from the 50’s…”

Celebrity chain-establishment: non existent.
Would be nice if there were more. And I still don’t understand the radon testing. Radon is everywhere. Could be a money grab. Could be legit. But so far there isn’t a house built, on land purchased, that has been halted due to radon. At least that I know of in my neck of the woods.
About every 20 years great ideas like this resurface. The drivers that make the idea attractive come and go. The off grid community and nomad community has exploded in the last 20 years. The early vision Mike had was far out but now its more and more familiar. Ideas of solar power and devices geared to it has expanded. Solar mass isa being employed much morepossible widely than ever before.
So easentially the world isa catching up to a visionay idea.
@Misdemeanor Thoughts , one more thought: I know a couple who got cancer, then discovered radon in their well water. It's something to be taken seriously.
@@asktheanimals hell. Breathing gives you cancer now days 😄
