@@disruptapps M1 zoning in Colorado.
@@disruptapps M1 in Colorado is the most free zoning there is, you can dig, blow up, build up, pretty much whatever. M1 Is for mining.
This is amazing and clever. Love it!
Thanks for the techniques.🎉
People should know that Michael Reynolds had to fight the system every step of the way throughout the development of the earthships.
He went to Washington to allow free citizens to experiment on these technologies in certain areas.
He went to places that had been destroyed by natural disasters and taught thousands how to build homes using materials that were native to the area.
He's provided the world with the answer to an enormous problem.
And he's a really cool guy.
lol ya sure. hes left piles of tires everywhere.
@@anatta467
Oh, you mean the tires that would have been piled in a dump anyway or burned with toxic results. Those tires?
Government there, wouldn’t even allow him to build homes that were off grid.
Reason- if you build a home with out electricity or water hookup ,its designated as uninhabitable!
You won’t be able to get a certificate of occupancy!
He was in court constantly...
Government doesn’t want you free from it.
And yet people have found solutions to all those problems and build earthships all over anyway. @@jamiemorgan4146
@@jamiemorgan4146 The Amish live with no electricity or running water. Not even a building permit. It's seen as a violation of their religious beliefs for the government to impose an ordinance or code on them or their buildings, plus none of them live in towns really. Given that Amish carpentry, woodworking, and workmanship are far higher than any code would impose anyway, I guess no one sees it as an issue.
Fastinating to listen to him explain everything. I've been to a few of these homes, they are amazing. We really should be building a lot more homes this way.
@Betty Van White
Thant is awesome that you have been in a few of these homes, and YES, they are amazing!
It would be great if more homes were built this way.
That is one of the reasons we area investing in the time, energy & money it takes to produce professional videos like this one.
Bringing awareness to these alternative, sustainable building models will increase the number of people who actually put this knowledge into practice.

Decade ago I shared this with wealthy people and I was put down.
Problem with most of them it's that they are detached.
And his TEAM
You re only shown some barely success. This vidéo ignores the too many failures over Time. In cold or humide climate, earthships fail dramatically.
@@NewerSwagger-gp3hj Well this company build in Sweden as well so check before you stating something and BTW there are man made caves in China Manhattan will fit there easily.
And then some in Cappadocia.
Earthships are pretty cool and logical structures and I hope you've built something in your life..
See the movie about those structures.
I'm staying in the Airbnb earth Ship West of Taos NM by luck and it's everything you ever could want. The design is well built designed to last. I'm here in January and it's 78°. In the greenhouse section no heaters no electricity no fans no noise.

"An earthship is a vessel that sailes on the seas of tomorrow". This man is a true genius. I LOVE the ideas.
I would like to see something like this in a colder climate like the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!
this is what i needed to see. finally someone that understands the world.
I have some acres in the Nevada desert, and this fabulous idea solves many issues for a homeowner for off-grid living at it's finest. This system is exactly what I need.
Good luck man always have water.
I am buying acreage in Eureka County about 60 miles south and west of Elko. I am hoping to move out of North Dakota and onto my land late next year. Have you started building yet, and if so, how do you feel about visitors coming your way to pick your brain?
Tires decompose when exposed to high temperatures, sunlight, or oxidizing agents. These elements are not present when a tire is packed with soil and surrounded by a stucco barrier inside an Earthship. The tires used in Earthship walls are of minimal risk to inhabitants because they have little potential to decompose. I consider Michael Reynolds a genius to have developed this concept...
My cousin built one of these in the 80's in Colorado. Have to say that initially it was not very attractive to see trash sticking through the walls and tires and so on. They took a LONG time to finally finish everything. But it looks beautiful now, and it is ALWAYS comfortable inside. Really nice temperature. Warm when it's cold out and cool when it's hot. Pretty cool.
Patience and a willingness to sacrifice pay off in the end. That is what I see here.
If you could just 'camp out' inside one of these structures - the $savings in energy and maintenance, water service would go quite a ways towards supporting a more leisurely completion of some of the interior details.
Just having the peace of mind of being sheltered from the extremes of weather would be a great plus - If several 1000's of these could start sheltering house-less people on our public lands - the municipal services budgeting would be greatly improved.... just check out your own state & local conditions. Roger Hallam is right that Citizen Assemblies should be forming to give those corruptocracies a run for the money. Public Assemblies can make much better choices than corporate sponsored 'representatives'. These earthships are such an appropriate solution that we citizens should be getting the Environmental Council Meetings packed with citizens who want them approved and completed before the standard corrupt and ignorant policies squander even more of our national treasuries.
Play more with Constituent Assemblies type of democracy in your home towns. What are we waiting for? It's time already. The systems we've depended upon are regularly failing. There's a reason to show up for each other and make it happen. 🌲😎🌲

Ya , it's just to bad that concept doesn't work out for groups of people in large numbers .

I've watched many videos on Mike Reynolds' Earthships and this by far the best one so far. The editing is top notch.
Mike had to fight the New Mexico legislature for years for amendments to allow his earthships. Over the years his technology has continued to evolve and improve. Earthships are not cheap. Mike is battling prostate cancer. He is a visionary.

An earthship is my dream home. 💞
This is the future of housing. Since we live in Oregon and the rest of my family is in Michigan, I would be extremely interested in videos and details of earthships that are working well in NON-desert areas, areas that get a lot of rain, cold cloudy (in winter) areas, etc. Thanks!
I can't remember the gentleman's name, but there is a project in Pennsylvania of a man and his father building earthships for themselves and they teach classes in exchange for the volunteer labor from the students. As far as I know, you just have to pick your land more carefully and it still works.
They’re quite a few videos here on YT that show different builds in different regions of the world.
Not at 600k it's not.
Maybe one day undisovered electrolysis water will be the future to harness electricity. :)
Your a really smart older guy, the things you do are awesome, if only we had a president smart like you

What State & County would not let you build one?
I bought an acre in Teller Conty, Woodland Park, CO and had a perfect hill to dig and build an earthship into. They turned me down. 😞

I visited these in person last year ... they are incredibly efficient but, as I recall, most of the private residences are not fully self-sufficient because of modern conveniences that folks have added. That said, they are getting better all the time. They are far more efficient than anything commercially built for sure.
What makes Taos magical are gems like this community ❤
Excellent video on Reynolds and Earthships. They have come so far. They are truly self-contained units that will provide endlessly if properly maintained. We need to be building like this everywhere.

Thanks Michael Reynolds ✌️💙
Giving that a 2k square foot home will cost around 550k you can tell who these homes are built for. Why can't shit like this actually be affordable?
They have the encounter model, its more affordable.
As building techniques and materials are refined it will become more affordable - won’t happen overnight though
@@haramsaddam238 yeah well see, this isn't meant for the poor he wouldn't make a living doing it. But most people wouldn't want to live like this and it will stay a niche lifestyle and most likely stay expensive because of that.
@@haramsaddam238 most people will not want to live that way and because of that it'll stay a niche lifestyle and in turn very expensive, he's not going to drop price with building techniques improving he's gotten use to a certain profit and won't lose money so we can save money.
Check out Cal-Earth.
Growing up in New Mexico, I remember seeing these as my family would take trips. I remember how amazed by them I was and how intrigued my family was as well. There wasn’t ever really any information on them other than an occasional magazine article. I love how everybody can learn about these places and how they’re adapted to various environments for building pretty much anywhere on the planet.

I have so much love and appreciation for this wonderfully inventive & brilliant man!! Thank you for sharing!!! We need more people like this! Taking Alchemy to a whole new level!! Amazing!
This really is the most sustainable way to move forward as a society. It would be so great if everyone or at least most of us went to this style of living, completely independent of these money grubbing corporations that are literally treating us like cattle, exploiting our time and effort, costing our health, all for their benefit-or more accurately, their lives of lavish excess. If the powers that be don't offer us anything we can't produce ourselves, well then they cease to be powerful.
What I'm trying to say is nice video, thanks.
