if Doak reads this, THANK YOU for such a great game that revolutionized my childhood. to this day I get so much joy from Goldeneye. used to walk to my friend's house at 7am just to play for an hour before going to the school bus lol.
Thank-you for sharing! - That 7am schedule is real dedication above and beyond! 🙏
Goldeneye is my favorite game and Timesplitters needs to be saved!
I listen to Vic's Basement on long commutes. Thanks for everything you do for the industry man
Vic its so awesome to see that you have stayed so passionate and keep making great content, so many people are still unaware that you are still here and have been an incredible supporter of gaming. I feel that soon you will have a massive wave of recognition way larger than previous ones. You are truly one of the important gaming journalists who I can only think of 1 (Geoff) who is on the same level with such an important legacy of work. Please consider putting the old episodes to x, to every platform you can, so everyone who followed you back in the day can find out that you're still around and making better content than ever!
TimeSplitters 2 & Future Perfect are PERFECT videogames. They were then and they still are now. My brother and I would stay up all night during the summers playing TimeSplitters. Thank you for the memories and your hard work for the lack of better words.
I wanna say that TimeSplitters to this day still gives me a lot of funny moments. I play some of the mapmaker levels that one of my friends create and post this maps on YT. Thank you Mr.Doak and FRD for your work and passion creating this franchise. I hope TimeSplitters can get a modern game so we can all play it and revive our childhood :)
Great video. I can listen to Doak for hours. So kind and humble.
It pains me so much with the continued fate of Timesplitters
This is an incredible interview, thank you Vic and Dr. Doak for this.
Goldeneye is a big part of my childhood but so is Electric Playground. I'm so grateful you're continuing your work on youtube Victor. You're such a professional at what you do, and that iconic voice. I love it!
Fantastic interview
TimeSplitters 2 was such an incredible game. Felt like THE sequel to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and is ultimately probably a better game than both. It's sad that it's so often forgotten or glossed over. Loved the interview! Keep these coming.
I mean it's impossible to compare Perfect Dark N64 to any other game. TimeSplitters is a totally different vibe and gameplay... presentation. If you're like me and love everything about PD64, then TimeSplitters has about nothing about why I love PD so much
Time Splitters was arguably the best PS2 launch title. Along with SSX and Dynasty Warriors 2.
Brilliant interview. Really enjoyed this!
Thank you to Dr Doak, not only for the brilliant games he helped create that made my teenage and young adult years so much fun, but also for the excellent interview. The insights about the games industry, especially that publishers are no longer interested in taking risks on what I consider essential elements of games - namely fun - really illuminate the stagnant state of the industry. And for confirming that the best games are those created by people who love games, not corporate structures.
A great conversation dudes awesome.
I was so sad when I heard that the newly-revived Free Radical was shut down in Dec 2023 by Embracer, along with a new Timesplitters game.
I really hope David and the original devs get a chance to re-group on another project together. The man has contributed to so many amazing games at Rare and Free Radical.
I definitely agree
Thank-you for your kind words. Much appreciated 🙏
Did you see what that new TimeSplitters game was going to look like? It literally was a fortnite clone with rainbow gliders.
@lesterbronson2385 That's completely untrue. Yes, there was a build they put together that was a 3rd person Battle Royale shooter. That game preview/trailer that resembled Fortnite was a stealth pitch that they used to convince Deep Silver to give them the green light and funding to develop a new Timesplitters game, as that was the safe game to make for the studio at the time. Once approved, they had no intention of making that game and scrapped it, to work on a proper Timesplitters game which was a sequel.
@@mitchondemand5194 And I guess that was the TS2 remake they intented to do later but we haven't see any of that sadly
I love your interview with David Doak ❤❤❤😊
Perfect Dark is one of my favorite games of all time. So many great memories playing Skedar with my 3 brothers
This is a Doak conversation homes 😊
Awesome as always, Vic 😎
Such a fantastic walk down memory lane. Great interview, Vic!
Absolutely loved this interview. Your channel is on fire, Vic! Hitting every button for intelligent and inquisitive celebration of the medium and its history and the characters involved.
Hey Doak you are the best programmer. Man you help the gaming industry 😊
Great interview!
Okay so THAT is how you pronounce his last name. I keep hearing both Doh-k and Do-ack, and I've always wanted to know the correct pronunciation.
Thank you for the interview!
This was a great listen! Y'all need to start a monthly game industry podcast or something 😅(also agree with your suggestion at the end)
Love Doak in golden eye also really appreciated the hard work in the game for back in the day, so great job from the team developers back in the 90s man..❤❤❤
He could be a hard guy to find in the facility
I felt bad for Dr. Doak when he was talking about his more recent attempts at development. He very clearly loves it and has stories he wants to tell and worlds to build, yet fate (and producers only focused on money) seems determined to prevent him from accomplishing it.
Hey Vic! Is there a video coming up for the Fallout series on Amazon?
Someone get his keycard before he ends up in a different room.
I actually think today's industry's far more "simpler." There was so much hype and grandiosity around hardware and software launches. Nowadays, though, stuff just comes and goes. Things release and almost immediately become old news.
Additionally, E3 was a massive event full of hype and excitement, whereas these live streams Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft do nowadays in front of green screens, in front of no crowds, with no live crowd reactions are far "simpler." I guess it works, but it seems like the industry lost its pizzazz.
First!?
Such a legend
