Bruce radios alfred to bring his batsuit, he persuses on horseback
Joker gets to the unveiling and highjacks it. Batman shows up and Joker takes the mayor hostage so that he can escape. I think his goons start gunning people down also.
I'm glad this was left out also, it sounds too ridiculous and all took place during the day. Tbh even in the movie I don't particularly like that scene in the apartment. It's important to note that at the time of this movie's release, comic book movies were not a thing at all, nor was there much experience in the film industry on how to make a super-hero movie(what tone do we shoot for? who is our target audience? how do we build the proper suit? etc). In addition, this movie definitely has the Tim Burton feel(dark and a bit weird) without being too much Tim Burton, probably because he was still an up-and-comer in the industry, and thats probably why they let him direct this movie as well. On top of all that, the corporate side of development was unsure if this movie would even come close to being a success, and had little faith in the end product. As it turns out, this Batman was a HUGE success and started a chain of events which led to many other movies being made.

I think it was Christian Bale who said his cowl was giving him headaches and he used that to bring out the anger in his performance. The one I heard that was the most terrible was Peter Weller in his Robocop costume. The movie was filmed in Dallas in 1986 where they had some 85-90 degree days. This movie is from 1989. Most houses did not have even one computer in them. I believe my husband and I got our first computer in 1993-1994. It was a 386x and had to be booted up using floppy discs. We didn't get to the point that we had more than one computer in the house until the early 2000s.
This role was a major breakthrough for Michael Keaton and established him as an actual dramatic lead whereas previously he'd been cast in more comedic roles.

Ok, I love that you picked up on Knox opening his trunk by banging on the hood. This is a character thing that they used to do in movies a lot & it's always stuck with me as just a beautifully efficient way to communicate character to the audience. One thing about action movies from the 80s & 90s is that they are incredibly well paced, the screenplays are always extremely efficient. One of the techniques, or shorthands they would use would be something like this where a character opens or activates something in a non-standard way, a way that you could only have known if that object belonged to you. In that one small scene we see that Knox must have had this busted ass car for ages in order to know exactly where to hit the trunk to open it. We can infer that his shitty car is because he's never made much money as a journalist but what does Knox do when there is literal money flying about all over the place ? He tries to help. He doesn't try & grab money and WE'VE SEEN HIS CAR, HE COULD USE THE MONEY, he gets his bat (he gets a bat, he's "Batman", get it ?) & tries to help. Knox is a good guy & we get that communicated effectively & efficiently in 8 seconds of screentime.

Scissorhands is the most Tim Burtoniest Tim Burton Movie (Nightmare Before Christmas is a close second). But what makes ES so Burton is that it's not based on any existing thing, just inspired by all the things Burton loves, so it's just his own thing. Even NBC is Burtons 'version' of some holidays.
Batman '89 is a good all around introduction to Batman, but it's very much Burton's version of Batman.
Batman Returns is... Burton's version of a movie he would make after he is finished filming a Batman movie and the costumes and sets are left over so he films a bunch of crazy crap with them in it.

This was when the infamous Bat-Turn was made. In the Batwing his intention was to get the balloons away faster to save the citizens. His ears are actually cut a little shorter, cause it would constantly get clipped when he would get in the Batmobile. Michael Keaton was actually claustrophobic during both films, because of the way the suit was made, the cowl being attached to the suit so it was hard to turn and hard to hear. But in a interview he said that helped him be a better actor. Bruce made a promise that he would avenge the death of his parents, and one day he saw a bat and he knew then thats what he needed to become to strike fear. Michael Keaton then made Batman Returns with the Penguin and Catwoman. After that film comes the god awful Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

I like how you kept laughing at how Batman's costume didn't let him move his head, and it'll be 5 more movies and 3 more actor swaps before he finally gets a costume that lets him. As for how DC keeps going, they didn't really have a continuous universe like the (modern) Marvel films back in the day, so whenever they changed producers or directors they would occasionally reboot everything. So every Batman, every Joker, every Alfred, every character you see in the films get reinterpreted every couple of movies or so, and their origin stories and characterizations differ. If you want to see a Batman origin movie, Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (and subsequent trilogy) is a good one.
