Yorkshire Television Ident History

- Interestingly enough, Thames Television, LWT & HTV aren't the only ITV regionals to celebrate it's 50th Anniversary, In 1968 ITV has launched Yorkshire Television, it was broadcasted the whole of Yorkshire from 1968 - 2002. So enjoy the history of Yorkshire Television Logos.
I don't live anywhere in the UK but here in the States I'd see the Yorkshire TV ident when I watched Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World (1980) on the Discovery Channel in the 1980s.
@Perseus1275 Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World only aired on the Discovery Channel in the States so no CBS or NBC logo would have been seen, but of course the Discovery logo was displayed. Eventually Discovery had to remove the Yorkshire Television ident probably due to legal reasons likely from ITV.
0:54 proper intense nostalgic feels with this one. Remember this from when I was a kid.
Poor old YTV all those years of quality production wiped out by ITV! it's a shame that ITV took away all idents and regional programming
Agree. Downhill from there.
Ofcom have ruined both TV & local radio full stop!
0.26 sounds the most triumphant! They should have kept that tbh! 🤔
Can't hear these without thinking of the continuity announcer Redvers Kyle introducing whichever program was on next back in the 80's.
As a Leeds lad, these bring back some memories.
The 1970’s Yorkshire television colour production logos are always my favourites.
In Australia, about the only Yorkshire TV programs we'd see regularly in the 70s and 80s were Alan Whicker's. Only just found out the music is the Yorkshire anthem On Ilkla Moor Baht 'At.
bring back regional idents!
I grew up in the southeast with LWT. It never had something as dramatic as YTV’s fanfare until it went orchestral in the late 90s.
So I remember the one at 0:36 being mentioned favourably in a computing magazine at the time, suggesting it took a lot of skill and comparing it to the Mr Chips anims from Catchphrase which "your dog could do". I assumed they were right at the time, but now I look back, the YTV logo, while it might have taken a ton of time to render, probably didn't demand a lot of human effort, whereas the Catchphrase stuff would all have to be done by hand.
Watching this in 2022 from New Zealand... Bring flash backs of youth.. 😆
0:07 looks like the opening to Doctor Who :) :)
0:16 Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World
"Come home to Channel 3"
Whoever thought that was a good idea?
Bruce Gingel... That's who.
Gryph Lane - "Channel 3" is actually ITV's legal name, probably hence why the continuity announcer said it.
I don't Wanna go home to channel 3, I wanna go home to Yorkshire 😔
@@kwesiidun8512 The Broadcasting Act 1991 referred to them as Channel 3 licences. They weren't advertised as ITV licences.
I thought itv was channel 2 because it was released in 1955 but hey not gonna complain
God that takes me back.
0:38, That’s The Ident For The Raggy Dolls Via VHS.
The original 'y' logo was designed by Rex Ripley.
was told on facebook by Robert Preedy That Yorkshire tv only ever did in vision continuity in late 60's to early 70's for collage times.
And now I want to watch an episode of Emmerdale Farm, circa 1979. Who's with me?
The classic Yorkshire ident followed by the classic Hammer Horror Appointment with Fear. 😨
BRING BACK YORKSHIRE TELEVISION
Absolutely. The Scots got to keep STV and the Northern Irish UTV, we want our YTV back!
@@andyt8216 it must surely still exist,at least with the Calendar news programme & Emmerdale? (A lot of YTV classic stuff on ITV3 & thru Network DVD)At least their studios ( which are huge) are still in business. At least Yorkshire have a great archive going way back to 1967/8 ! STV have very little archive ; very little was saved prior to 1979.
before the start of Emmerdale Farm, the brass section turned up to 11, you instantly recognised the Yorkshire five note ident tune, was known to frighten the living daylights out of some viewers,
remember this one now lived in Yorkshire.
If I didn't know better, I'd think that was a Los Angeles Rams helmet at 1:01.
ON ILKLEY MOOR BAR 'tHAT!!
I like the stereo version of the old logo, jumps out of all 5.1 speakers of my LG Dolby Pro Logic II / DTS / Dolby Digital home cinema speaker system!
I remember some of the logos when I was little girl for years.
Would love to see/hear the Calendar Sport music from the mid seventies, been looking for it for yonks..
Iconic
I only Remember the Yorkshire logo when I was 2 years old
0:29 1 for my ident
I was only a kid at the time but I remember the Christmas / December when the BBC went on strike, even worse for us YTV walked out too. Cue lots of 2nd aerials going up pointing towards Tyne Tees for something at least however ropey the picture.
I think Yorkshire finally showed the Xmas shows at the end of January 😀
Yorkshire Television Logo History (2006)
55 sec is best one followed by 1.25
You missed the 2nd version of the ITV-YTV ident.
3 idents are missing here: the 3-2-1 intro ident, second 1989 Generic ident ( you can see why they changed it, I mean the chevron wouldn’t of been that hard to incorporate I into that V, now would it? Shows how much thought, care and attention were put into them, it’s no wonder that some of the companies said “ sod off” to them lol) and there is another one I have seen that has a graphic of homes with all their tv aerials all pointing to transmitters and one of them turns yellow and points downward to the Yorkshire “ bar bar bar bar bar” tune. I liked their postcard ident though, Channel 3 ident was shite, although at least Yorkshire cheekily kept their Chevron, poor Tyne Tees lost theirs in the original animation.
0:38 followed closely by 0:25 - those are my favourites. 0:25 especially. They've stopped boasting about being in colour, and the tune has a more serious note to it.
'Nei gets in the way ?"
I’m A Yorkshire Lad
Where I can watch the series "Emmerdale" dated after the 10th year????
I only remember this from itv3
I'm positive I remember a Yorkshire Television logo with the same music featured on all of the earlier logos with a slightly different, higher pitched arrangement and a purple 'Y' instead of a yellow one in the early / mid 80s?
My favorite ident is at 0:29
Yellow orange and loud right?
You could get Yorkshire tv in st Helens in north west England
Yorkshire tv logo 👌
My favorite one is the long version color one, it's a cool fanfare

it’s all fun and games in 2012 yorkshire until that one kid asks “och mæt, wanna go ‘tghround me ‘ouse an pleeeh blakk opz 2, moiæt?”
Hahahahahaha
My mum and dad still call it Yorkshire 😂
lce124 I still call it YTV, or Yorkshire
the theme sounds like its saying "Ray gets in the way"?
It sounds like "Yorkshire on TV!!!"
Rob Osborne I believe it’s supposed to sound like chords of the tune “ On Ilkley Moor Ba’tat “ on old Yorkshire folk song.
I’ve never seen the second ident before. It must be very rare.
I’m fairly sure the second one is a mock of what could have been if the first ident had been “colourised”.
@@stuart121972 it’s not a mock.its real.
@@user4216 YTV were one of the first , along with LWT & Thames to think about colour ; possibly 1967/8

The second ident must be fake
Well...the 2001 generic ident sounds like "meridian"
They were composed by David Dundas, who also did the Meridian and the 1989 ITV tune as well as Channel 4's iconic "Fourscore".
@@subwaygaragemusic thank you and i will go do some research
@@BlShell No problem.

The 2nd one is not real.
It's likely a really rare logo and not a fake. Nobody knows.
The original video video for that had the word "mock" in it, so it IS fake.
It's very well done. I wondered why I couldn't remember having seen it before.
SALT TOWN PRODUCTIONS 2 it's because it's fake!
Indeed. I'm saying that will be the reason I've never seen it before.

Stop high-pitching some idents.
Just ignore them and keep doing what you do best.
Many of these were taken from CZcams videos where the uploader of *those* had high-pitched the idents. Unfortunately many of them are the only copies of those idents available on CZcams.
@@stickytapenrust6869 so...
What's the point?
To give as complete a history of Yorkshire TV's idents as possible. An ident with a high pitch is better than none at all.
