Lived next to this guy for 3 weeks, he's the real deal, I'm not sure there is a day that he doesn't put in the work. He's the true liverking.
Dude! Where were we neighbors at?
@@JasonGrubb Orlando. Safe travels!
Liverking?
@JasonGrubb I wasn't your neighbor. Just FYI.

I am 88-years old and have been doing cold water therapy for two months. I am suffering from allostatic overload. The cold therapy has been a real boon to me in many ways.
Awesome to hear!! You're incredible.
Informative, concise, great video. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Really interesting video, I am terrible at dealing with the cold so I should try this just to ‘build character’- all the other benefits are just bonus
Definitely! Let me know how it goes!
Sooo inspiring.
Greetings from Cologne/Germany
Loving the channel and content Jason. Very inspiring to see a guy the same age absolutely crushing it. Huge respect 👏
Awesome! Thank you!
@@JasonGrubb👍
Same age? You’re old?
Thanks Jason. After our last communication I listened to both Huberman and Wim Hof, and even started Wim Hof’s breathing exercises in the mornings, after my workouts and before showering. I’m starting slow with cold shower workups and got up to 4 mins this morning. I’m using Hof’s free app to perform the breathing exercises and logging my progress within the app. It also has a place to log your cold therapy journey. Thanks for share your experience with me, it’s put me on the path and a week into it and I can already see and feel the difference. Thanks brother!
You are absolutely welcome!! Awesome that you're already noticing a difference. Great job Marty!
Interesting…thanks for the motivation again and again
My pleasure!
Great video Jason. So many benefits to cold exposure that I was unaware of. 👍👍
Great to hear!
Great Vid
Great video! I’ve been cold plunging every morning for about 60 days now and I’ve experienced a lot of the same benefits.
It's awesome, right?!
@@JasonGrubb it is! I absolutely love it. I don’t want to start my day without it now. I’m sure them cold winter mornings will be a challenge but I’m looking forward to it.
What temp do you keep yours at and how to you get it to that temp?
Awesome video
Thanks!
Thank you for the video! 🙌🏼 I’ll start with cold showers 🚿 I’m trying to improve digestion.
Awesome!
Me too...I do cold for a few minutes at end of my shower 😅 but I've been researching this and there are so many benefits to ice baths!!
I just hate being cold 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah! I will jump in icy ocean water tomorrow, and maybe more often now.
About a month into daily morning cold plunges before workouts. It's fantastic - less pain, more energy, better workouts and sports performance - highly recommend!!!
I got an ice bath for Christmas and today was 21 days of cold plunges! I'm in Canada so I don't have to add ice for the water to be between 32-36 right now lol. I have terrible knees and they feel amazing afterwards. Also agree with the mental clarity piece and I just feel energetic after. One piece of advice - I have bad circulation and my feet were painfully cold every time, so I wear neoprene socks now and it's made it so much more tolerable.
So cool (and also cold lol)!!! Keep it up!
Pulled the trigger and tried it. My pool was still at 47 degrees. 20 seconds in I was about to quit and jump out , but I got through it and after a minute, I noticed it was not so bad and before long the 5 minute timer went off. I’m so glad I tried it. There is no way to explain how good you feel.
Doug! Awesome!!!
Just completed a November cold training using showers. Now it’s cold plunge time. I much prefer it over showers so far. It’s good stuff
Showers are so much worse - in a different way. I'm all in on cold plunges!
Haha...the Dwight Shrute disclaimer. Fantastic. Personally, I'm on a 20-min ice bath first thing upon waking, and *immediately into a workout to warm up. Plenty of good science on effects on test. from doing it this way 'round, plus one might assume the interference with hypertrophy is mitigated by doing things this way 'round rather than post-workout C.E. All this said, the development of resilience, grit, etc. (i.e. development of anterior mid-cingulate), and reflection on the entire process as a metaphor for basically *every great difficulty one has to overcome in order to bring great things into existence is one of the highest benefits IMV ... Anyway, loved the video. Keep on keeping on!
Boom... well said!!!
I also look forward to this routine every morning :)
It's the best!
@@JasonGrubbevery morning I would end my shower with cold. Before training (later in the day) I would do additional 4min cold plunge (its huge) upgrade in training when u traim right after (recommended)
@@matusjurcik6974 NICE!!!!!
Just bought one of these.. comes tomorrow.. having issues with lower back pain from many years of weight lifting.. hoping this helps!! Thanks!
Best of luck! Hope it works for ya!
Great video. Are you still doing it?
Would you suggest doing it first thing, before dog walk, gym, run etc? And do you shower after you've done it or does the warm water then take away the effects?
Yes and yes!! No shower after. Let your body warm up naturally!! I've been doing it every day for about 9 months at this point. Love it.
Very nice and potent routine btw people with dopamine problems (ADHD for instance) should do this with caution because this can really boost ur deopamine and it can be too much (that dip after). Not only that u can exp. a big dip in dopamine after, but u can even damage your dopamine receptors (they need to renegerate). My own exp. with too much good u can literally get depression. Regulate!
Oh man. That’s interesting.
Hey jason... how cold are u able to get your water?.... I've tried different combinations of Tupperware tubs and I've only been able to get down to about 50 degrees... tried (2) 16 qt. Tubs, currently doing (6) 6 qt. tubs. I can fit up to (9) of the 6 qt. Tubs in my freezer but were getting to the point where I'm only using my 27 cu. ft. freezer to freeze water.
Now, with the penguin chiller I keep it at 45. Https://www.penguinchillers.com/product/jason-grubb-fitness-chiller-bundle/
Before - with just ice cubes - about 55 degrees.
Ice Barrel! Looks more affordable than the ice machine! I’m going to look into it.
Ha ha... it will last forever.
Those cold showers are harder than plunging in my opinion. My daughter started splashing me while I was doing cold plunge and it felt instantly colder. Same feeling when I tried cold showers
I agree!
Agreed - its much more comfortable plunging in to cold water
maybe if you stay still. in my experience, your whole body gets colder with cold plunges. @@idunno512
I guess so! In Alberta, the tap water is 5 Celsius year round!
Jason, I really enjoyed your video. It answers a lot of questions concerning cold water baths.
I only have access to cold showers. I do not want to soak in municipal water. There are way too many unknown toxins in that garbage coming through my water. So I take three minute cold showers and they really work well for me.
I plan on purchasing a plastic barrel and putting it in my garage. This way I can begin cold body submersion.
To start off using a barrel, do you recommend I fill the barrel enough in order for most of my body to be submerged? Could I fill it with water 1/4 of the barrel since my body is not used to total submersion and than gradually work my way up to a filled barrel?
Thanks!
I think that would be a fine way to get into it!!
Thanks for responding back!
I DO 50 DEGREES IN A TROUGH, WITH 7 LARGE CONTAINERS OF ICE AND I ADD THE ICEMAKER ICE AS WELL, 10 MINS TOTAL BUT I WISH I HAD A CHILLER TO MAKE IT EVEN COLDER BUT THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY DAY IS MY DAILY STEAM SAUNA THAT I'VE DONE FOR 8 MONTHS SO FAR FOR 20 MINS A DAY AT 115 DEGREES
Nice!!! I definitely like the chiller!! Http://icebarrel.com/jasongrubb
I'm on day 16 of cold plunging and loving it every morning.
Awesome!
Hello sir, I have started cold plunging based on you recommendation. I am also a CrossFit Masters athlete 52 yes old, and had the pleasure to meet you at this years Legends. Question about plunging, if you have a cold, sore throat, runny nose, ect, did you still plunge? Do you recommend it if you have a cold? The reason I ask is you’ve done a lot of the research and I figured you were the best one to ask about this.
Thx again sir.
Hey - I appreciate you reaching out! I actually haven't been sick since I started plunging lol even though it's been a sold 6 months or so. I'd have to say that, for me, I think I would still plunge... but I haven't actually done research on it. Wish I had a better response for you man!
I appreciate you being honest. I decided to plunder also. Found s clip where Professor Huberman stated unless you have a fever go ahead a plunge if you want.
Thanks again as always, congrats on semi-finals, and hope to see you at Legends again this year (after they pick a place)
Jason- there are research studies indicating that cold therapy reduces training gains in strength, muscle mass, and endurance. Do you or the folks at IceBarrel have any response to that? Not a critique; I love all your content.
Good question! Studies seem to say that if the ice bath is done within 4 hours after training it will have those effects. I almost exclusively use it in the mornings. Huberman says that if you're in a competition situation, an ice bath can help reduce pain and inflammation... and in that space you're not worried about gains.
@@JasonGrubb Thank you! That makes a lot of sense.
Cold showers daily for 8 yrs. Changed my life.
The best!
How often do you change the water? Chlorine ? Thanks for the info! ✌️
I use a bit of Hot Tub chemicals to keep the water fresh and clean - in the summer I change it around every 2-3 weeks. In the winter, not as much. As long as I have the chiller (www.penguinchillers.com/product/jason-grubb-fitness-chiller-bundle/ ) I don't need to change it much at all as the cold water is fairly stable.
@JasonGrubb
Thanks for the reply. I talked to a guy at the pool supply, and he gave me some chlorine powder, and I add about a sprinkel once a weak. It's supposed to keep all the bacteria from building up. Cheers
I live in Chicago, I don't need to cold plunge during winter lol.
You don't need a chiller - but the plunge would be so great!! ha ha.
I have a cold plunge and do 43-45F for 4 minutes every morning. Feels pretty great, I cannot say that it lasts all day though like others have claimed.
Also, I’ve lost 10 lbs with little effort on about a month
Congrats on the weight loss!
@@JasonGrubb thanks
Hey Jason, if you had to choose between cold plunge or a workout session to boost your mood, which would you go with?
That is a really great question and is so hard to choose. I deal with anxiety and my workouts are an integral part of keeping my "rpms" down. So, if I had to choose, I'd choose to move my body.
I did 30 days for anxiety issues … I have to admit I feel better..
Awesome!!
I'm thinking about doing this for the same reason. My local gym has a plunge bath. I'm almost ready to do it..
@@michaelwray1034 Go for it!!!
@@michaelwray1034 do it ..
Curious what temp you had it at when you got in? How you got it to be that temperature for 30 days in a row?
Those first 30 days were in late Fall last year - so ambient overnight temps in the 40s brought the temp down nicely in the Ice Barrel.
Thanks! @@JasonGrubb
Doing it daily is counterproductive. You mention Huberman and he mentions that. 11 mins a week max is max benefit.
It may not be more productive, but tell me more about how it's counterproductive?
@@JasonGrubb You’re the so called “influencer” loving to hear yourself talk and trying to make big bucks… like so many people with non original content, making these videos, trying to gain followers, likes, comments and spreading bad information. I dunno… watch Huberman who is legit, backs everything with research, science and is extremely healthy. But what do I know… I’m 41 (see pic taken last week) optimal bloodwork, organ function, extremely metabolically healthy with a Testosterone level of 1010, I take no supplements AT ALL, never did or anything anabolic EVER including TRT and I’m strict animal diet with under 75 carbs daily. Weigh 176 and I bench 275 for 12 as of this week. But what do I know?!
I do it three times a day I feel on top baby
@@getlow3143 Pee in butts!
Wish I could afford a barrel. Showers work though
They sure do!
Buy a used cattle barrel.
when you take cold shower do you exposed your head or not?
I think it's a personal preference.
@@JasonGrubb ok but do you think it is safe?
Did it help your inflammation ?
Yep!!
Did you by chance grow up in Macomb?
Nope
is cold water good for joints?
100% yes.
looks good, but no way Im paying over $1k for one of those barrels.

Waking backwards 10 min a day fixed my lower back .
How many weeks/months of walking backwards?
@@maalikfazal1406 I saw improvement in just a few days , I started for knee pain . It fixed that as well . I only do twice a week now but also push and pull the sled once a week .
Thank god it was a gift cause that’s a 1200 piece of plastic lol
It's interesting... after using it for a year, if I lost this, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Take cold showers 😍 hot showers ☹️
I hate cold showers lol
I believe the majority of scientific research is accredited to Dr. Susanna Søberg. Andrew Hubermann stated that himself.
Good to know!
Great video but you lost me with the constant mini clips of irrelevant things
Fair enough
