Driving the amphibious TVR Scamander into Blackpool for its first MOT in 12 years..

- The TVR Scamander was created by the late Peter Wheeler as the perfect vehicle to take him both across the moors on his farm and out to his boat on a mooring. But the Scamander hasn't been driven on road for over 12 years, so the first job to get it back in working order was to get it MOT'd..

I miss TVR, what a bonkers company they were.
The Tuscan and Cerberus were definitely cool. British quality and reliability not withstanding.
100% the Tuscan was what got me interested in cars, having seen it in Swordfish. Still beautiful if it was designed today.
Bonkers indeed
@@bmstylee What country are you from?
@@gw7624 an unrefined American. Well slightly more refined than the average Yank.
This car is so mad, that only a genius like Peter Wheeler could build it.... And after all the years, it passed the MoT. Congratulations!
Good luck for the London Concour! 👍
Now THAT'S a vehicle for other planets
Hello MARS.
Yep, definitely not this one.
or if you want to navigate on your own and want to take third Reich.
Even so Blackpools pretty rough.
Only for those having petrol to burn and oxygen to pollute.
Never knew such a vehicle existed. Well done for keeping it on the road.
Neither did i, its banana's but amazing and still looks very today.✌️🇬🇧
Hats off to Joe for getting this back on the road!
With TVR getting more attention than it has in years its about time to get some of the special "one offs" back in the public limelight and show how special TVR was... and how special their owner was as well.
Brilliant! Damn shame Peter is no longer with us such a pioneer. He would give these SUV producing manufacturers something to think about. No concepts produced and then never to be seen again as we see from so many car manufacturers!! Peter designed it and just did it.
Joe seems like a top lad, look forward to seeing him again.
Weird.
@@johnsmith1474your “weird” is weird
A proper driver as well. Get him in the garage!
Seemed shy initially then relaxed when on the road 🛣️
TVR were literally nuts, in the best possible way, shame they didn't pull through, God they made some of the craziest vehicles
Canceling the Speed 12 killed them.
I remember driving up to a garage behind beacon fell to do some paintwork for Peter. He was racing an Aston Martin db4 which I painted for him ......... this scamander started life there in its early stages so this is amazing to see it now .
That machine has the whole Thunderbirds / Joe90 vibe going on , what a classic vehicle
It's pure Y2K aesthetic!
Love it! TVR always was a bit different but this Scamander is something else.
Makes my Chimaera look very plain Jane!!
Perfect car for The Man with the Golden Gun.. Scaramanga making his escape in the Scamander!
Great vid Harry. The Scamander is so 'out there' it hasn't dated. Amazing off road ability considering it's only two wheel drive (I think?). That was a brave run to the MOT station! As ever twenty minutes of grin inducing petrol hedonism! And thank you Mr Wheeler for being a true eccentric genius.
I'm so glad this beast is back on the road!
Peter Wheeler, UK manufacturing needs many more like him. Less talk, more action. Mad as a box of frogs but what’s not to like, amazing machine.
Great to see the building where TVR’s were made is still being used. Back in the early 80’s I used to ask for the latest car brochures and they were always accommodating. Don’t think they realised I was only a teenager at the time 😂 The car brochures must have cost a small fortune to produce
Great to see you keeping this mad creation from Peter Wheeler alive, what an extraordinary machine!
Peter was a true British eccentric. We so miss the oddball cars ( and this is a wonderful bit o' kit). Well done Joe. Your father's legacy is in good hands. Real smile factor with the Scamander !!!
Great video Harry. Look forward to seeing more of it on water etc
I love how you and Joe hang out and take the path least followed
Made my day watching this on rainy upstate NY Sunday taking a break whilst working on our old f150 with my son who is about to embark on an adventure up to Nova Scotia.
Good to see a positive story relating to Blackpool
I'm so happy to see this thing on the road again. I've been smitten since i first saw it 10+ years ago. I'm glad it's not stuffed away in a dusty shed somewhere, but is getting some use.
You passed by my house driving down Ashfield Road just before the garage lol so weird seeing it on CZcams !!!
09:47 - Imagine being that van driver. They're trundling through this bleak landscape, on another grey day, rounding a bend - to see this bizarre _creature_ bobbing its way over the tussocks and rocks, like it's nothing. 🤯
5.00 Sunday is Harry’s garage time!😊
It used to be Songs of Praise and Ski Sunday, but not anymore 😅
proper space 1999/ UFO stuff ... love it
That thing is absolutely mental! And I absolutely adore it!
I hope to see the Scamander at a show one day. Joe seems like a great guy. Hope all goes well for him.
Insanely crazy bonkers…I love it!! Just the thing for popping to the Whitewell Inn for a Sunday roast!! 😅
Great to see it almost "back home", you were just a few feet away from Lawfield engineering and Brian Hosfield who has huge working knowledge of e Scamander and was TVR's race engineer worked on all the race cars, Peters 5000M and the creation of the Scamander. Some first hand back story would have made a very good video just perfect. My two TVR's, a Restomod TAIMAR (probably the last ground up TVR that will ever be built at Bristol Ave) and one of the last surviving "bootless" 3000S prototypes are both there with Graham's SDP12. Always enjoy your video's
I’ve never seen this vehicle. I’m surprised there’s not more company’s and designers doing this. Awesome!
I work in Clitheroe and, now I come to think of it, it must have driven past my office, as my coffee cup shook unexpectedly! Excellent stuff, Harry. 👏🏻
Harry vehicle out in the mud you had the best opportunity to say” join me on some better roads” great video all the same.
The Dance Scamander! (I don't expect you to get that Harry!) 😂
Just had a call from planet Mars, they want their car back.
Even more insane this has a TVR badge. Big thank you to the young man sharing this with Harry and us.
Doesn't insane and TVR kinda go together?
Another superb video and unique content. Wonderful stuff.
Lol. Mad dogs and Englishmen.... Never would believe it. Driving across the moors to get to the MOT. This was brilliant. Pete must be so proud as I am sure you are. I watched the first episode and this was fab. Can't wait to see more. Thanks again for the uploads as ever they make my Sundays so much better before the week starts again.😊😊
I thoroughly enjoyed BOTH your Scamander videos Harry 😄 Thanks to you and to Joe 👏
Exciting news of the day. Peter Wheeler is a genius.
Besides looking some Mars rover, it's a perfectly usable vehicle for its intended purposes. What an amazing piece of kit!
Peter must be smiling from up above… looking forward to the coming adventures !
All the while I watched this fantastic car, I kept hearing in my head: "It's uncategorical, a fuel-burning oracle, a phantasmagorical machine..."
Every trip in this car is an event!
So glad to see a continuation of the previous video! Awesome car/truck/ATV thing!
It will defiantly win "best in class" 😂
I actually saw that a couple of weeks ago driving through poulton le Fylde and wonder what in heavens it was.
The start of the video reminded me of two things. The first car I drove at over 100 mph was a TVR. Can’t remember the model but it had a Ford engine with a overhead valve head conversion.
I carried out my first MOTs using an outdoor four post ramp.
An outside ramp had one big advantage in the days when it snowed. Dam stuff didn’t melt & run down your neck.
How I wish I’d seen this on the streets on the Fylde that day!! Yet another top film, Harry! So wonderful to see it return to the old TVR factory on Bristol Avenue.
Loving the update! The enthusiasm is contagious! ^^
And now for something completely different! Love it!😂 It reminds me, vaguely, of the Judge Dredd Landrover, built for the film a few years ago. Professor Pat Pending has nothing on Peter Wheeler. You have to admire him, not just for turning TVR around but for defying convention and doing his own thing. 👍 I'll bet he had a bit of a chuckle to himself looking down on the proceedings. RIP Peter.
Awesome. As a bit of interest, that 'Tank' was a Volvo, B.V. 202. We [R.M.] used to use them in the Arctic, as did other military forces until they were replaced by the Hagglunds B.V 206, of which there's one at the Tan Hill pub. I look forward to more of the Scamander.
That thing is absolutely amazing. 🤩
This is bloody fantastic. Keep up the great content guys.
The more I see this thing, the more I love it!
Naughty Harry ! When the car joins the road from the moor, then goes over the cattle grid the next shots are actually of it going back to Joe’s towards Newton. It then appears in Waddington then onto Clitheroe which are the other way ! Still a great vid and Sunday wouldn’t be Sunday without Harry. Wish I had seen it and then both, twice I’ve missed them now !
Continuity error? Naah. Didn't you see the car's 'teleport' button next to the windscreen wiper switch? 😉
@@EleanorPeterson 🤣🤣🤣 forgot this was Harry’s garage where anything is possible !
That thing is wild litterly goes anywhere, the roof rattling is great 😂
Premium content. Happy Sunday everyone!
Likewise 🥂
Thanks harry for this , why has this not been reimagined? Love the original design and story behind such a vehicle, out of interest how much would something like this be valued at ? , thanks keep up the good work and look forward to more on this in the future 👍❤️
Great episode, awesome to see the Scamander back on the road with a fresh MOT.
Looking forward to all the adventures to come....
This is so out there, it’s so perfect, intemporal, flexible, if only there was someone with cash, courage and not minding taking a very likely loss on the first 1000 vehicles built.
Well done to all involved for keeping the prototype alive ❤
Well done Harry for bringing us these automotive delights!
Can't wait for London!
Cool looking car..amd love seeing old pictures and looking at all the old cars, takes me back to my youth and a bit of reminiscing
What a fantastic vehicle and Mr Wheeler, what a supper young man. All the best Bob
Nice! Slightly less exotic I’ve been helping my neighbour free off the brakes on his 2003 MG ZR so it can go for its first MOT in about 8 years. They’ve had it since new and it’s still very tidy but it’s been in storage for a while. Brakes done, Let’s see what the MOT man finds!
Might be an MOT woman! Or gender-fluid.... Hope it passes, nice to bring something back to life.
She/they/them will be making the teas and coffees for the MOT mechanic mate
Fantastic to see this amazing vehicle in action. Looks sharp and seems to perform equally .
The perfect CZcams car doesn't exi...
Peter Wheeler: Hold my pint.
Wow never seen one or remember one ,what a strange interesting machine, look forward to it's adventures
Sort of typically Peter Wheeler. Nuts but nonetheless brilliant. Passed it's MOT too.
What an absolutely beautiful piece of property shown in this video. Utterly stunning and combined with the TVR that shows it driving off the property on that long driveway looked like something out of a science fiction movie 🍿 😆
You'll need these soon given how many areas are getting regularly heavy flooding
13:47 "Lots of expensive cars to hit." Yeah, in one that's got to be nigh on priceless.
Awesome.
One of the best videos on this chanel, so far !
Great fun as per usual amazing photography work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastic news! Glad the MOT sailed through and off to London! Good luck getting it in there. Wish I were able to make it there to see it.
Fabulous, I look forward to the coming adventures Harry.
I remember seeing this in EVO one time and was fascinated by it so really appreciate the videos on it!
Very futuristic, thinking out of the box amphibian.
Reminds me of something from Ark II, when I was a kid watching that show.
Eat your heart Musk, that's how you build a car!
Fabulous! And a bit reminiscent… back around 2000 I took a trip to the UK to stay with some wonderful folks in Blackpool. We toured the then-operational TVR works, and among other things visited Clitheroe to see the Castle. So you brought back some memories with this one.
Very interesting vehicle, never seen one before, looking forward to your next video.
right out of a james bond movie ! amazing that its the old TVR factory. Good one Harry !
Excellent result and looking forward to seeing more videos 🏴👍🏻
Great stuff, reminded me of our series 1 landrover larking about up on Danby Moor in the seventies, happy days. Keep the videos coming, a weekly highlight, as ever.
Brought to old tvr factory -- so many feels!
Excellent work, long live the Scamander!
Another great video, and an absolutely brilliant machine.
Looking Good, looking forward to it being at the show.
A sunny day. Harry's Garage. Tyrrells classic workshops and a day off tomorrow. Can a Sunday get any better?? Not for me it can't.
Wow this car/boat looks awesome never seen anything like it I would love 1 of them 💯
So Cool! I was hoping this video would happen! 👍
Brilliant Harry!
Reminds me of one of those armoured beetle insects from above! lol
That is simply stunning, If you saw it coming towards yo, you would wonder who spiked your drink etc, Cant wait to see more adventures in it, Well done to all involved,
Awesome video. Love the vehicle.
That's from the space 1999 series
Haha, you nailed it!
Such good content. Thank you!
Much more futuristic than the tesler cybertruck. Still undated, looks like it could drive out of a space ship and onto mars😊.
Great contents as always, love what you do. Would love to see you reviewing an LFA one day.
What an amazing vehicle, love it !
I love it! Perfect for Los Angeles and its surrounding lakes, mountains and deserts!
It's great to see this on the road.
