I am recording some highly dynamic vocals on an sm7b. The verse parts need a closer approach to look for that proximity effect since they have some low notes. The chorus goes right into belting. What would be the difference between these 2 positions for the chorus:
    1) Moving the mic further away, but still pointing at lips.
    2) Trying the off axis technique, with mic a little bit closer.
    Thank you!

Try recording the lower intensity parts first to warm up your voice. Record a few takes of the verses closer to the mic. Then take a step back for the belting sections, adjust position to taste. I like to move off axis with an SM7 to avoid plosives, but for the most presence keep the vocalist straight into the mic (just further away). Record both options and share how it went!
