- This hardtail dream mountain bike is getting ridiculous now! I decided after reading lots of comments to buy the best possible mtb groupset, the SRAM eagle AXS electronic gears. They blow my mind. I can't beleive that mountain bike products can be this expensive, but they are definitely cool. I also got loads more cool new parts for this bike! Check out the san quentin upgrades and let me know what you think of the mods, or any future changes to this bike?!

4 riders (or more, or less) out in the wild, everyone has someone else’s wireless shifter (add in wireless dropper posts for comedy value), you have to work as a team to get around the trails.
this would be such a funny challenge omg someone NEEDS to do this😂😂 (i can see why ppl maybe wont do it cus itd be pretty expensive if u didnt already have an electric gears)

Ya know it's just cool seeing Matt be a totally normal bike fan who still gets geeked out over cool parts, even though he's sponsored. Also really liked him on the mic at whistler!
I felt that Cam McCall kept talking over Matt during the interviews. I could tell Matt was trying to ask questions but couldnt get a word in.

@@kilcrzy also fox and sram are completely different. Rockshox is powered by sram. Fox make suspension. So you can be sponsored by both

Areeb rides MTB if u get that bike I recommend upgrading to a new fork or getting the 2nd bike in that line up but it will be great either way.
Areeb rides MTB suntour doesn't make great forks. I have one on my bike but it would be great to have a rockshoxs or fox
Hey guys, I recently bought a Cube Aim SL 29 and I am curious if it is worth upgrading or will I have to buy a completely new hardtail after I get more experienced and skilled..? I like the frame of the cube and I would rather Upgrade it later with some Rockshox, better handlebars etc.

If get the sram you have extra interchangeable battery at least in a pinch can strip battery from seat post and keep jamming gears

can anyone explain the setup with DHF's on both front and rear wheel?
They are a bit more bitey combo than the DHR in back, but with more rolling resistance. It's not uncommon to see them front and rear on builds these days.

The SRAM app doesn't change gears, it adgusts them instead of having to tweak them manually
Matt this is soooo true man ! I couldn’t afford a good downhill so I always rode dirt jumpers ! Haven’t rode for years and within weeks I’m hitting drops and gaps bigger than ever ! On my transition ! It’s amazing the skills I gained. Makes the full Suspension so easy to handle !

I really like both of the bikes you designed with Marin, both the Alcatraz and San Quentin. It seems like I can’t buy a complete bike though, I was saving for an Alcatraz this spring but they either sold out or discontinued them.

As someone on a Marin hardtail, I loved that speech in the beginning. That bike is like Christmas day, one upgrade already feels amazing I can't imagine doing all that haha. Easily one of the most impressive hardtails I've ever seen.

DHF is downhill Freeride and DHR is downhill racing. Only found out it wasn’t front and rear the other day!

Dan23 7 hmmm yeah I agree that our legs provide enough “travel” but I got a full susp because the bumps of tree roots nocked my feet out off place/off my pedals. I tried riding clipless but couldn’t get used to it (even broke my collarbone 😅) nontheless I like hardtails but for DH i’ll ride full susp

That derailleur is pretty cool, but I wish it could charge itself. Like a little motor in the jockey wheels could probably generate plenty power.

Just got my Chameleon (HT) back from the shop after wrecking my hub.
For the 2-3 weeks it took for them to fix it, i borrowed a Bronson. I loved the bronson for going trail riding, everything felt so smooth and easy.
But when i got my own bike back, i felt in love again, hardtails are still alive!
Indeed. My full-sus is in the shop, taking the hardtail out again has been way more fun than I expected. Feels like I can go twice as fast with half the effort. The only downside is rock gardens feeling like a jackhammer.
I love my hardtail! I even stuck a few new parts on it! for example the fox 34 suspension runs so smooth

Derailleur is originally an English word "derailer". It's the mechanism that allows trains to swap tracks by "derailing" them. The French stole it and then cycling became popular in France. Bottom line, we're all saying it wrong and a Frenchman is the last person to correct anyone's pronunciation of derailer.

The app is rad! If your shifter battery dies you can use the app to shift the derailleur! In a bind it really does help.

I love riding hard tails I have a Canfield Nimble 9 with 27.5 + wheels and it rides amazing. I also have a santa Cruz Hightower that barely gets ridden.

I'm with you 100% on not going to full suspension until you really need it. Case in point, I just got a lightly used Trance 0 and retired my 1993 hard tail that I bought new in 1994. haha. But seriously, a hardtail (or one could argue full rigid) helps you learn import bike handling skills and how to read trails. That SRAM electronic shifting looks really cool, too bad I'm out of cash.

try riding old school no suspension bikes with straight forks (a la Kona Project 2's) with caliper brakes, no helmet, no gloves and toeclip pedals, down technical single track hills, through the trees, out in the Lincolnshire wolds mate 🙂

Front suspension is a luxury as far as I'm concerned!
I got a REALLY old DH slalom bike with 24" wheels and only a 56mm travel fork if you'd be interested in giving it a go...that said I don't even consider it a retro bike having only got it in like 2000 🤭

Love my XTR mech for slick af shifting but man I would give my right arm to get rid of the bit of metallic string between my thumb and it.
Bike looks incredible! But there is one thing I believe you need to change for the extra steez! The back tyre logo needs to be inline with the valve just like the front. Agreed? 👍😁

You should get a pair of rev grips. They isolate the vibration. It’s $90 USD. But it’s worth it.
Fidlock bottle and one up stem edc. I would also re route your brake cables so you can do bar spins and tail whips.
ODI allows you to write custom messages on there lock rings and customize the color on some of there models. it would add a lot more steez to your cockpit!
