8:15 I'd like to remind you that "Fatui's innocence" is a thing in the game for a long time. I may say it started with Childe becoming our sort of friend back in Liyue, continued in Inazuma with the Lyudochka quest where we became more familiar with their structure and what Fatui think of themselves. There was big part of it in last year's Golden Apple Archipelago depicting Fatui as confused, suffering and relatable (there were even some Fatui NPCS which we did not fight) and peaked in Chasm where Fatui were genuinely sent to help and we got multiple quests describing their struggle and their surprise and disappointment when they realized how negatively perceived they became. We're still in the middle of a long term buildup on this matter.

The Fatui as a whole are not more evil than any organization that helps with ulterior motives, but honestly most of the evil comes from the fact that most of the important members are either insane or have their own hidden agenda, or both.

I totally agree with all the points mentioned. I love alot of characters in genshin and they have great stories most of it is just hidden in characters stories that most people don't really bother to read. It so annoying how these stories don't really get shown in the character quests. I really loved Navia and Neuvillette in this quest they really subverted my expectations. Navia's story was really well done. I'm very excited to see where this is going in the future. Keep up the good work. Good video

Navia’s character development was great! The plot twists and dark creepy backstories were just dark enough but not overly horrifying and scary at least for me. The court procedures were exhilarating and full of tension which I loved! As someone who has played Genshin for 6-10 months (at least almost a year- I started when Yae Miko and maybe Childe got a rerun- maybe 3.8 or something idk or remember😅) the archon quests and character development as well as the story plots were so exciting and fun for me!! Neuvillette was a nice surprise to me, I assume most people had the same feeling that he was going to be this cold, maybe ruthless, uncaring character but after his introduction I knew I was totally wrong about him. His ending with Navia was just great, I can't wait to see more of him.

  • @kiplingwasafurry1108
    @kiplingwasafurry1108 Před 11 měsíci +13

I was interested in Neuvillette since his design was leaked and when I read his quote about Nahida in her drip marketing, but I was worried that I’d play through Fontaine and not like his character or personality. However Fontaine has subverted my expectations in a good way as the trailer showed him as a cold and uncaring judge (which I wouldn’t mind), but I was surprised when he sat down next to traveler and had an awkward conversation with him and Paimon. Plus the end scene where he talks to Navia and how it’s NOT SO subtly implied that rain in Fontaine is caused by him crying shows that he’s actually a very complex character with a lot of emotional depth to him. Definitely pulling for him.
Same with Navia, at first I thought she was going to be like the regions’ version of Ayaka or Dehya but act 2 surprised me so much. It was like playing through a top tier character story quest where we actually find out information about her, instead of focusing on some random NPC. Plus the NPCs in the quest actually help and aid even further into the mystery. I love the direction Hoyo is going with more playable character based stories and quests.

He’s always been my favorite character and even tho he didn’t necessarily get anymore depth, he was literally connected to just about every single character involved in some way. Agree that the amount of ground laying is deep. The second case was opened because of the primordial seawater discovered in the first.
That case was also the lead in for the missing girl's case mixed with the prophecy.
The prophecy we learnt from Liney while missing girl's case we learnt from Charlotte. Who we know from Genshin's launch trailer and the tcg even.
What i didn't understand was the relationship with Liney. Knowing that he's fatui shouldn't shake the traveller since they are ok with Childe who is not only fatui but a harbinger. One that released Osial just to call a bluff.
If after all that traveller can be in a love-hate relationship with Childe, then they should be fine with Liney who i think is very charming in his unique way

I can'a agree that the presence of Teppei and Dunyarzad was unneccessary in the story. Do we really want to feel like there are two parallel worlds living next to each other with no interjection? Those with visions who deserve our time and those with none that can only stand in the background. Teppei and Dunyarzad are easily more likable than some of the playable characters and I loved seeing just regular people live and die without plit armor in this world.

We still have that in Fontaine. It’s not like Fontaine is lacking in NPC focus, for Teppei’s case his screentime was at odds with Kokomi and the playable cast. Teppei mostly served as a plot device, but Marcel, Melus, Lilianne, etc. were not.
Dunyarzad’s a good NPC for her relative role, but Teppei’s hogging of screentime hurt the opportunity for playable characters to shine in an already-rushed quest. Marcel meanwhile, made Navia *better* as a character.

Something about the Teppei thing, they could've made a playable character that used to have a delusion, similar to Baizhu being constantly sick and what not, because of their old use of the delusion. Imagine instead of Scaramouche being the first character to receive a vision on screen, we see this character who has tried to use a delusion get a vision and be 'saved' by Celestia. They are able to live longer and work on their ambition or something like that.

Feels like there needs to be a deep dive into the overall theme of every nation cuz all I see in each one is a satirical reflection of real world problems.
Monstadt - Boasts about freedom while prioritizing a rigid hierarchical structure under one religion, and maintained by a wholly incompetent security state.
Liyue - Presents itself as a nation whose future is decided by its people, but it's the wealthiest making all the economic decisions.
Inazuma - Blatant authoritarianism and a corrupt 3-branch governing structure upheld by rich families.
Sumeru - A rigid education system imposed by rich, old, and out-of-touch dudes who gave up on humanity by using their citizens as extractable resources, attempting to be rid of any media of defiance (aka the arts) and then feeding people propaganda as simply cultural phenomena (e.g. not dreaming = intelligence/adulthood) while destroying the environment in the pursuit knowledge.

I’ve been playing Genshin since summer of 2021 here and then until when the Inazuma update got released I started playing everyday nonstop I am surprised that most people disliked the archon quest, to me it was the most likable one so far compared to the other regions since it mainly focuses on saving the people of Inazuma from their own archon which was an unusual sight to see and that the Raiden Shogun was so cold and mighty but deep down she had some uncertainties and we get to discuss the subject of reaching Eternity with her. To me Inazuma will remain my favorite region but as for the other regions they were good!! Except for Sumeru where the quests are full of dialogues there’s no action to it and it only got better when we got to encounter Dottore and Scaramouche (I had to quit the game for months after that the archon quest). And for fountain I am unable to give my opinion about it for now since we didn’t play the full archon quest yet and we have to wait for the future updates.
In conclusion, I consider Inazuma’s archon quest enjoyable compared to the other quests, it’s true there was some parts that made it look rushed but overall it was fantastic even the fact that we got to face the archon and fight her to shake her will but hey we all have our own opinions :D
I really hope this game gets better and the plots get more interesting since a lot of the players including me are slowly giving up on playing Genshin

Well written NPCs (like Dunyazard) taking the spotlight from time to time shouldn't inherently be seen as a bad thing; I do believe Genshin needs to achieve a fine balance between Playable Characters and NPCs playing important roles so it can achieve the best narrative possible without relying too much on the presence of Playable Characters to keeps players engaged, resulting in the awkward horror that were Yoimiya and Ayaka's quests in the Inazuma Chapter.
NPCs have shown their potential for great story-telling and narrative support even further with characters like Melus and Silver, who despite being solely bodyguards and supports for Navia's character, managed to win the heart of a lot of players in the first 2 Acts of Fontaine. We shouldn't disregard the value and importance of NPCs and Playable Characters by only utilizing one side, MiHoYo just needs to aim to utilize both correctly.

    • @meteor9573
      @meteor9573 Před 10 měsíci +2

Yeah... That's the only thing I disagree in this video.
Not every interesting character has to be playable, and there's nothing wrong with a character fulfilling a temporary role in the story. After all, this is a gacha game where we control a traveler that is... well... travelling to various places and meeting a lot of people. No one is permanent to the main story besides the Traveler, Paimon, the Abyss Sibling and maybe Dainsleif.
I love Dunyarzad and Navia's bodyguards, and the fact that they are interesting characters that we end up caring about despite being NPCs is something that is rarely seen in videogames.
Not every NPC has to be a boring one-dimensional robot with only one character trait, and not every interesting character with a well-written backstory and motivations and a realistic personality and satisfying development has to be playable. There no rule or limit to how interesting a NPC can be.
I wouldn't mind if we get another character like Dunyarzad in the future.

I am still to this day sad that Inazuma was so rushed it could have been an amazing story but they quite literally rushed it so much that some characters got too little screen time or were not even in it. Take Ayato for example one of the commissioner of Inazuma one of the most important people within the nation and submerged in politics since youth was somehow not mentioned at all. It still doesn't make sense why the kamisato siblings let Thoma be captured one who they see as family but help Kazuha escape. And the characters that were used honestly i would have no clue what kokomi's personality was if not for her story quest. The only character that in my opinion was okay written from Inazuma to the point that we could understand the character was Yae Miko. It's still so sad to see characters like Ayato and Kokomi being wasted like that. And don't get me started about Liyue i still to this day have no clue who chongyun is and Qiqi who is one of the most popular characters and a character with one of the most interesting backstories from every character has never had an event or even a single quest about her it's just sad at this point.

This Archon quest was actually pretty great in terms of story, build up and story mechanisms but I have to disagree with a few points here. I personally don't feel like Fontaine's characters have seen much if any character development and it still feels like we barely know them, whereas in other regions by this point you'd already be super close with that character. TL;DR- I'm super interested by Furina's character, pretty intrigued by Neuvillette, not particularly fascinated with Navia's character because she became a plot device rather than just a character, Lyney and Lynette's association with the Fatui wasn't as satisfying of a story moment as it shoulda been and the second quest is still almost wholly about two NPCs- Callas and Marcel. Onto my completely unsolicited rant about my feelings about Fontaine and it's characters!
The most interesting character to me personally is Focalors, because of the vain and immature attitude that she displays and how the people of Fontaine view her as a sort of caricature rather than a God, but it is juxtaposed with the kind of heavy and dark burden placed on her shoulders that we've seen every other archon suffer from too. This manifests itself in the way of the prophecy of Fontaine which I think is ominous enough to stir interest and creates a sense of urgency, just like the creation of a New God storyline in Sumeru did. I'd even argue that Inazuma had this going for it where the traveller was on a clock to save their head from Raiden and the population from the Vision decree but they ruined it by adding subplots with 0 payoff, but I digress. Overall however, given Furina's status as an archon (and a new archon like Nahida) faced with the burdens levied on her and her nation by some unholy prophecy contrasted with her lively personality, she interests me the most (she's kinda similar to Venti in this aspect but he just acts shallow yet knows a lottttt). Arguably, she's also the only one I feel got any character development when she starts thinking things through a bit more and being more rational after losing in the Lyney trial.
Personally, Neuvillette is also a good character to me because despite our limited interactions with him, his mechanical behaviours and highly enigmatic personality, he still has all the foreshadowing bearings of an extremely pivotal character, plus the inference that he may be the Hydro dragon is super interesting because we know how hostile other dragons like Apep have behaved before. His principles on justice and human emotion are very interesting and I feel will definitely have a deeper dive later on, can't wait!
I have an unpopular opinion, and it is that Navia is fairly uninteresting as a character. To be clear I do like her because she's so sweet and bubbly but I feel like she's been thrust into the story as a plot device to reveal some secrets to the traveller that will become more important in the future, such as the Primordial Sea water and stuff. She has in my opinion not exhibited much of a unique or a complex character besides in her interactions with Clorinde and Neuvillette. Other than that I feel like she's a more level headed Paimon just there to explain our thoughts to us just to progress the story who also has a character motive (like Teppei with his motive of becoming stronger but ultimately to get us angry at the Fatui). Her posse seems to do most of the quirky character work for her tbh. I think that with her backstory, her motives, her principles, her behaviours and her interactions there's all the ingredients to make a great character but I feel like using her storyline as an Archon quest plotline makes her lose brevity as a character (THIS IS TO ME PERSONALLY) and becomes a sort of Ayaka in the Inazuma archon quest i.e she still has importance but she's only there to move things along instead of be important as a character.
She had more potential in the first Act I feel but the second Act became a story quest in essence instead of staying an archon quest imo, and MOST other Archon quests have avoided this even in very single character-centric quests by giving heavy importance to the overarching urgency or the other characters (usually the archon but Furina was mostly missing from this quest). It feels like this quest doesn't substantially build up much for the climax and that the aftermath is not impactful enough, but only time will tell.
When it comes to Lyney and Lynette I personally feel like the story teaser revealing their association with Arlecchino and the Fatui completely ruined the mystery and the drama for me. I distrusted every single thing Lyney and Lynette did from the beginning because we always have been faced by the bad Fatuus who always try to take advantage of the traveller. So the revelation that they were from the House of Hearth really made no impact on me and while the trial was really interesting and their backstory is quite interesting as well, it just feels weird that we have two playable Fatui characters who have neither been given a redemption arc (like Scaramouche) or have been deemed clinically insane and that's just how they are (like Childe). I feel like the mystery that should have shrouded Lyney and Lynette and their ambiguity would've been far better if they hadn't revealed so much in the story teaser, but maybe at least those who haven't watched it would get to experience it truly. But yes, these are just my opinions and while I think the quest was great and the characters are pretty good, it just feels like the ingredients are all right there and they just need to stir the pot more. Thanks for reading if anyone read this far T-T
P.S: Just wanna add that technically even Fontaine has not been able to avoid the NPC quest curse because while we are maybe helping Navia, the quest is actually investigating and about clearing Callas's name (who doesn't even exist anymore anyway) and the conviction of Marcel who ends up being the big bad at for two acts of the quest, both NPCs (Marcel is a solid character imo but yeah still stands). Even Sumeru had the same thing with Dunyarzad and while I liked it, like you said it's not particularly satisfying to see major character events happen and character development to NPCs, especially in precious archon quest screentime given how important they are to supplement the main lore and story of the game and how relatively sparse they are in comparison to the hundreds of world quests of NPCs.

I mean it's good but if I had to choose now, I liked 3.0 - 3.3 Nahida Arc better. Could easily change later but for now..
