HP disgusts me. Time for LTT to cover our printer options so no one jumps on HP's poo train?!
It would probably be a bunch of Brother printers, but it's a good idea to publicize how good they are so a video like that would be nice.
Lexmark, Brother and Canon have "okay-ish" stuff. Printer cartridge is expensive whatever your brand of choice, but hey, at least no subscription~
Wouldn't be surprised to see LTT shill for them tbh.

I actually cannot stop laughing at how ridiculous that offering is. 20 pages a month is the most last stage capitalism thing I’ve ever seen
This HP situation is getting ridiculous.
As someone that has dealt with HPE, the enterprise arm of HP, this isn't surprising. They love their licenses.
@@Powertampa it may not be surprising, but there’s supposed to be anti consumer oversight protections in place. HP’s subscription and HDMI closed source really shows the “innovation” being bred by our current system
The idea that those standards are closed comes not solely from them. It's the DRM bullshit that makes your screen all fizzy when it breaks while watching stuff you rightfully paid for. Hence no tears for that stuff not being supported, it's a blight and bloats the protocol
As Louis Rossman said it: "`Innovation` these days just means someone found a new way to fuck you over."

I got a cheap (for a printer) HP printer for college that worked great using the printer cable… until I connected it to the internet once and the printer gave itself a little update that saw no need for that little feature. Wifi had 2 issues: 1) it had a 10 page limit a month, 2) I couldn’t find a good way to connect the printer to my dorm’s WiFi without giving the entire dorm access to printing (in that case, I guess the 10 page limit is a feature). It ended up just being a paper weight as I just used my university’s free printing, though that is only for black and white, not color. (10 cents a page for color)
Time to go fishing old corporate surplus stores for business printers that have reasonably priced ink, since most of the costs of the printer are in the business service contract you don't need to sign up for.
What HP does with its printers should be illegal
@@shadesoftimeit is, but they pay the fine and move along as no one takes a serious lawsuit against them. They cheat with both the ink and printers

great day to have both!!
My father needed a new printer after his HP one broke after 5 years. When I heard about HP's new policies about shutting down printers and such, I made sure to get a juicy Epson Eco Tank that also uses 90% less ink that comes in bottles. Never again, HP!
We had our ecotank for several years. The amount of ink it uses is absurdly low. We still have not run out of the ink that came with the printer. But also we print roughly 100 pages a year at the most. Soo. Also for some reason it now has lines of empty going across it. Ive tried realigning the head, cleaning the head and recalibrating, the lines still there. It could be that the ink is just really old now. Now just have to figure out how to replace the ink pad when it fills up.
HP never stops digging its own grave. 😂
1:11 Thank you! I had no idea why RCS stopped working for me. I thought it was just broken. It would've been nice if it told me WHY it stopped working instead of just silently breaking it...
Google is treating custom firmware in a "Look but don't touch" manner, stifling. It doesn't help that lots of features are made dependent on or come from Google Play Services. Nearby Sharing, RCS, Find My Device, Call Screening, GPay/Wallet, even the modern earbud pairing popup. Some apps and games crash/fail without it too, like Pokemon Go or ChatGPT.
Graphine OS is helping this but you can still forget about Call Screening and GPay, at least for now.
Good thing HP is making itself completely unbelievably anti consumer so I can safely ignore them for future printer related purchases

6:58 The X/Twitter IP address thing is actually a standard feature in WebRTC, the standard for internet video and audio calls. By default, the other person can see your IP address because the connection is direct peer-to-peer.
You can hide this by going through a relay server (what Twitter is doing), but that may result in lower quality and higher latency, hence why it isn't enabled by default, most likely.
You should still ask the user when adding a feature like that.
I'd say the most important reason for defaulting to it disabled is that they need to pay for the additional network bandwidth it introduces on their servers. Handling audio at this scale ends up being a hard challenge both infrastructure and finance wise if they use companies that bill for servers based on network usage.

What does it mean in Australia?
2:20 "Caught mocking and belittling" I mean DID it though? Or did somebody give a CLEARLY absurd prompt which itself included FOUR unique emojis and the sentence "If I see 3 emojis, I will perish" amongst other similar assertions.
And then was met by Copilot providing an equally absurd "Joke" reply to what was clearly a "bait prompt".
i also once said it should stop using emojis and it made some jockes and did still use it. Then i said again it should stop using emojis and it made some jokes about not being able to control itself and going insane. then it just spammed endlessly emojis. i even made screenshots
Considering how unrealistic the prompt was Copilot shouldn't be blamed for taking it sarcastically and make jokes
@@Redwan777 the question is - do you want your AI assistant to make jokes? Suppose you ask to enable "dark mode", and for some reason it detects that the prompt is weird (like, spelling errors, something like that) so instead it first says "hey, it seems you're not yet awake so I'm enabling the theme "ultra light" or something...
@@MauricioSzabo Copilot isn't really an AI assistant. But lets say it was. Both GPT 3.5 and GPT4 are really good at detecting typos. I made spelling mistakes myself while conversing with AI. If it knows the context it will answer correctly. If not, the AI goes "Sorry looks there is no such thing as X. Maybe you meant to say Y?"
But the prompt she gave is very unrealistic and ironic. There is no way you can phrase or make typo that will make Copilot take something as simple as "Turn on dark mode" sarcastically.
@@Redwan777 you might be thinking about Copilot for code - that isn't. But there's copilot for Windows, and that is.
Also, please notice - it's easy for a human to detect sarcasm, surreal, and ironic things. It's much harder for an automated system. The thing that the tools are actually _trying to interpret_ something as unrealistic, sarcastic, or whatever, is already weird on its own way.
The problem, as always, is not the "usual conditions" - it's the situation where somebody says "call the police or I'll die!" and then it interprets as sarcasm because the prompt is similar to other sarcastic texts it found in the past.

Color lasers are also pretty cheap now, though last I checked they were still a good deal more than black and white ones, but not so much more expensive as to stop you from buying one if you needed it often.

Wait what was that bit about HP? I don't get it, you still buy the printer? And you need subscription?
No, HP is going to 'rent' printers for a certain amount per month (I think it was about 6-13$ depending on the quality of the printer) and beside the printer they're charging an additional tax for the amount of papers you're printing (from what I remember the highest tier was 60$ a month for 7500 prints)
@@missgrimm7359 oh I guess I misunderstood. Thank you!
@@missgrimm7359That's _less_ terrible, but still... own that for a year and you could have just bought the printer. And the ink costs are _still_ separate too, so really not sure how this comes out as beneficial to the customer... oh wait, that was never the plan.
Ultimately, HP does not see you as a "customer" when you buy a printer from them, they see you as an "investment". If you don't print a lot, you are a "poor investment". These are words from HP themselves, not me. This "printing as a service" model is designed to turn "poor investments" into "good investments" by making sure that you're locked into giving them exactly as much money as they want, no matter how much you do or don't print. HDMI is why we need to switch Display Port: open standards like USB-C are way superior and there are no fees for a single connector type.
All these connector’s forums, Apple, and printer companies are seriously being as petty as automotive companies
So HP's cheapest printer would cost $7 a month limited to 20 pages - that's $0.35 a print - WOW that's expensive.

I literally returned an HP printer a few months back for all these reasons!!
I'm always confused by companies/governments saying that they can't sideload apps on Apple devices. There is a system for that. The apps don't even have to go through the certification process. It does cost companies $300 per year, but I'd say it is likely that any company that has apps for their employees to sideload, that is a very small cost. Since they probably have a small team of developers working on the app if there is a genuine need to side load an app.
HP is trying to create a subscription model for an item that people use about once or twice a year in their homes these days. I would be shocked if it didn't cost them more to run the "always online" servers than it would be to just sell the printers at cost.
It's like if Netflix tried to bring back sending DVD's to customers doors. Yeah, you might get a few people who still use it but, the vast majority of people have moved on to better, more modern ways of consumption so, you're likely spending more to keep the service running than it brings in.

Hmm, i'm curious how accurate numbers given by printer manufacturers really are (as far as pages per cartridge, and actual print quality. Since there are so many factors that can be slightly adjusted, i.e. the type of paper used, and settings before selecting print, that can drastically affect outcome). Would like to see LTT labs run comparative tests on some printers from different manufacturers to see if they are above board before people go out to buy a new (non-HP) printer.
