    The elimination of cap on difficulty scores under the current COP made so many gymnasts remove time-consuming elements which are actually very appealing to the audience. In exchange, they have to stuff all sorts of AD's and risks into their routines just to get higher difficulty scores, at the expense of beautiful BD's.
    The current COP is also especially harsh on pivots (my favourite element) and so this season is unfortunately much less interesting to me personally. No one performs perfect backscale pivot like Ulyana anymore, and attitude pivots with Yana's relevé are simply rare.
    Thanks for including Agiurgiuculese's attitude + ring pivot combination! It reminds me of my favourite pivot queen Daria Dmitrieva who always performed this. Keep up with your good work!

    • @ClematisRGVideos
      @ClematisRGVideos  Před 4 lety +17

      This code is indeed harsh on pivot. for example to see that 4 penche is basically only 0.2 poitn higher than a 6 penche pivot is very strange. I was wondering why we couldn't have a lower starting value of the pivot and then a point's rise as the number of rotation increase.
      And including Agiurgiuculese's pivot was my pleasure!

      Hi. What is cop , ad and bd ?
      😀

    • @lacrimosa3868
      @lacrimosa3868 Před 4 lety +12

      @@catpaws1196 Hello Cat Paws. COP is short for Code of Points, which is essentially the scoring system of rhythmic gymnastics. It lists how many points each element (pivot / jump / throw / risk) is worth, when and how points are deducted etc. Every COP lasts about 3 years, and the current COP started in 2017 and will last until 2020.
      A gymnast's total score is the sum of her difficulty points and execution points. For each element she performs, she earns difficulty points. And for each imperfect or mistake she makes, her execution points get deducted.
      BD is short for body difficulty, which is what the gymnast performs using her bodily parts. Pivots, jumps, balances, rolls etc. contribute to BD points.
      AD, on the other hand, is short for apparatus difficulty, which is what the gymnast does with her apparatus (ribbon, ball, clubs, hoop). Throws, catches, rolls of apparatus over body parts etc. contribute to AD points.
      The current COP allocates rather pitiful values to pivots, which used to be an important element to gain high scores, and greatly emphasises on throws and catches, which is why gymnasts in this season performs a lot more throws than previous seasons.
      Hope this clarifies!

      @@catpaws1196 Hi! New fan here I suppose ;) CoP (Cop, or cop or whatever anyway!) means Code Of Point. It's the rulebook for the discipline which explain how judges can score the routine on difficulty and execution. Like in Artistic Gymnastics!
      Ad is the casual abbreviation for Apparatus Difficulty: basically it's a particularly technically difficult synchronization between apparatus and body. No to be confused with DA which stands for ''Difficulty Apparatus'' in result sheets and includes the points earns from ad and risks (risk: gymnast throwing the apparatus doing 2 rotations of more and catching the apparatus. If a gymnast throw the apparatus, do only 1 rotation and catch, it's not a risk, but it could be an ad).
      Here is a video about ad czcams.com/video/RaB2iKojjrM/video.html

      @ClematisRGVideos  Před 4 lety +19

    • @dannyjq
      @dannyjq Před 4 lety +22

      as an ex rhythmic gymnast, that skill is definitely not one she probably worries about or feels significant pain over. hitting the underside of your toes into the ground isn't that bad.
      the elements that cause the most physical stress are the ones that make u enter really flexible positions really quickly in a kicking motion, especially with the hips and back.
      for example, pivots and leaps require u to kick your legs and abdomen into position quickly, so back scale pivots are bad, and split leaps with arch and turning split leaps with arch are bad.

    Rhythmic gymnastics never gets props. Always shown at 3am American time. I loved watching it but always had to hunt for it. This is great skill and talent, and the hand/eye coordination alone is phenomenal. I guess because America always fails to place anywhere decent it’s just overlooked here.

      Rhythmic gymnastics is indeed very European (Central Asia too) centered: nearly all the big competitions happens in Europe or Central Asia (Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan etc...) and I guess that doesn't help. But America got great talent: USA qualified 2 gymnasts for the Olympic for the first time, Mexican, Brazilian and USA groups are rising, not bad!

      Yes, some element that were valuable are now ''useless''! It's also because gymnasts could performed more BD with limited D, so no need to maximize everyone of them. Some of them are sort of banned nowadays by giving them absolutely no interesting value (Kb balance, balance with extreme flexibility of the back with high touching the leg during a ring for example, ring jump), but with the draft 2021-2024 it looks like some skills (like knees balances) are re-introduced (but the value remain quite low)

    For Arina's Walkover, I think it could also have something to do with penalties for connection/rhythm interruption. If the element is not executed at the end of the routine, the transition into the next element is anything but smooth and usually off-beat. All in all, she does a catch for 0.4 in AD, but could get -0.2 deduction for artistic faults. The ratio of real value (nominal value minus deduction) to skill is pushed even lower, which makes the element unattractive as an AD.

    • @ClematisRGVideos

    • @ClematisRGVideos
      @ClematisRGVideos  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes! I think it it has to do something with her right leg flexibility being better than her left leg flexibility. And since she prefers to turn on the inside, she will necessary rotate to the left for attitude (left leg flexibility involved but not to much) / split (right leg flexibility involved a lot) and rotate to the right for the ring (right leg flexibility involved and of course back being surely more flexible/muscular on this side). That's also probably why she was not very consistent on this turn: turning left for a gymnast that prefers turning right.

    As a ballerina, I pray these girls are actually being taken care of. Flexibility is fantastic UNTIL your body pays the price. The only way to prevent damage from over stretching from kicks and other ballistic stretches, is to make sure the muscles and tendons around those muscles and bones are in tip top shape!!! If anyone here is a rhythmic gymnast, are you encouraged to study Pilates? Any of his strengthening exercises would help in sustaining long lean muscles without adding bulk and impeding flexibility.

Even with that (and I think you know it too as a ballerina) you can't prevent some injuries (even small ones) with the repetition of the same elements for an extensive amount of time...but yes, everything must be done to avoid that (and sometimes not everything is done for that and I think taboo about nutrition and weight are not helping the discussion)

      Oui j'ai beaucoup hésité pour la reprise ''à travers'' parce qu'effectivement, techniquement ce n'est pas ''à travers''. C'est pour cela que j'ai mis ''if considered''.
      Pour ce qui est de la taille j'ai demandé aussi à plusieurs juges internationaux (dont certains niveau 1 comme Eva), et ce qui m'étonne c'est qu'ils m'ont qui m'ont dit que la hauteur était considérée à partir du point où l'engin quitte la gymnaste. Mais en pratique, les yeux sont évidemment incapables de fixer précisément le moment où l'engin quitte la gymnaste. D'où la facilité de compter à partir du sol pour une gymnaste au sol.

    Thanks for the great video as usual! One element that I liked was the one Dina performed here at 1.00 : czcams.com/video/9GZUSn2SV_U/video.html but she could hardly ever do it and quickly changed it to how she does it now (where the club falls down the other side of the leg). Is there a big difference?

    • @ClematisRGVideos
      @ClematisRGVideos  Před 4 lety +2

      I though about including this one! Yes the points are different but only because she don't perform a backscale balance anymore. The difference of point is not about catching on one side or another.
      2016 version: 0.2+0.5 for this skill vs 2019 version: 0.2 only
      However you'll agree that the 2016 version of that skill is way harder than the 2017 version (she holds the balance but catch the clubs on the other side if you remember), and yet the value is the same. A big problem of this Code for me.
      Since 2018, she's not holding the balance anymore. It was tremendously difficult and she was often loosing her balance/not holding the shape long enough. Now she's playing safe and that's the best for her :D
      And honestly Arina and Dina have such an enormous arsenal of AD I could do an entire videos about them ahah

      To be short: it's a difficult apparatus handling. Not just a regular bounce for example, but a bounce on the back for example.

    if they truly want to prevent back injury, RG should be banned all together. This sport is all about back injury. human spine is meant for stability not flexibility.
