This happens to be my wife and my creation from our trip to Kentucky last summer (2018). My blend was the Lakeshore & my wife's was Campfire. The names symbolize our personalities & our love for boating/camping. We run the largest liquor store in the state of Wyoming - Town & Country Supermarket Liquors. We chose the staves 100% and are proud of the taste profile that each bottle contains. Both very different tastes for a wide variety of palates. You can get these bottles at Town & Country Supermarket Liquors in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Thanks for trying!!
Cory Talich - I am 45 minutes away from Cheyenne and you are intriguing me to make the drive. I have a greeny plate so call off the WY brown cars with the red and blues. I would hate to come for a bottle and end up with a border tax ticket.
@@moose7611 we have lots of customers from CO, so you should be fine. Just don't come wearing green/gold as that might offend some people up here...ha ha. It is a fun story and very interesting on how they allow customers to customize their taste profile at Maker's Mark. I learned a lot that trip and we are hoping to go back and purchase some more barrels when they are available to us.
It dawned on me that this Makers Private Select is a brilliantly marketed form of experimentation and learning. Makers has figured out a way to get stores/bars/restaurants to commission an experimental varietal that is a guaranteed sale AND Makers gets to sample everything and learn what works. I can see them saying "Client X wanted these combinations of woods, and it was brilliant. Let's make more of this" All of the alchemy R&D, none of the risk. Even if the combination turns out weird or bitey or sour or whatever, the client already agreed to buy the entire barrel. Genius level.
Daniel! Your speech about how to "talk whisky" with unfamiliar people is absolutely fantastic. Amazing advice, and a very underrated perspective on conversation in any circumstance
The area where they bring theses brands in is incredible. It has thousands of bottles and had glass where you can see all the 46 barrels aging in a cave-like area. The whole distillery is an awesome experience. 10/10 recommend making the trip.
Great video, gents! The fact that each generation at Maker's Mark has done their part to move the brand forward, speaks to the quality of the family itself. Kudos Maker's Mark!
One of the main things that need to be emphasized regarding Maker's Mark Private Barrel Selection is there is in a sense not A Maker's Mark Private Barrel Selection. Rather there are Maker's Mark Private Barrel SelectionS. As Daniel pointed out, there is a lot of variation in these bottlings (1001 potential variations!) so BEFORE you buy a bottle, read the back label to see what staves were used and consequently what sort of spice character you can expect as no two barrels will be the same. Personally, I like the ones with a heavy mocha stave influence. By the way... although it isn't talked about much the flavor enhancement through the use of inner staves occurs in the wine industry (I wrote a paper on it in college). It is sort of treated as an industry secret and the companies that produce the inner staves treat the relationship with their clients (wineries) as a proprietary secret.
I picked up a bottle last year from Twin Liquors, marked Twin Liquors 4th Generation, which has 1 Baked American Oak Pure 2, 1 Seared French Cuvee, and 2 Roasted French Mocha. It's absolutely my favorite bourbon.
I just want yall guys to know. I just smelt and sipped my first whiskey because of yall. Jack daniels single barrel sellect. Completely new experience thanks to yall. Much love.
Maker's Mark is definitely one of my favorite bourbons. Probably not the no. 1, but close. I did find that there more select versions are subtle, and tasty. You guys are funny and tops.
I can honestly say I careless about Rex and Daniels reviews but I love to hear something new about whisk(e)y and no one does it better than they do! Best part of my day cheers fellow Texans
I've had Maker's Mark Private Select for my birthday, and my God, is it good. Maker's Mark by itself is solid stuff, Maker's 46 is really good, but the Private Select is by far the best bourbon I've had thus far. Not saying I am a bourbon expert though, so grain of salt and all.
Considering the clear path Daniel and Rex are taking to giving EVERY state a quirk... I feel like my state will very likely be some sort of "size complex" (Rhode Island). As for the ending of the video... considering how often I will talk to random customers in the whiskey isles and every bar tender I meet about my love and whiskey and how amazing the tribe is... clearly a cult!!! (Also in the case of many bar tenders, they actually are curious most of the time and I have gotten items "removed" from my bill just because I was talking about my favorite whiskey *Red Breast 12 Cask* and how magnificent the tribe on CZcams is). As for Makers Mark, it is a whiskey I tested the waters with and I found it very sweet per my tastes and it made me think I was a bourbon person... however... my brother works at a local chain liquor store for my neck of the woods, they have at least five other stores by the same name. And they just so happened to have a Makers Mark bottle very similar to the ones in this video... MM Private select, 55.15%., 3 Seared French Cuvee, 4 Makers 46, 2 Roasted French Mocha and 1 Toasted French Spice. I did sample the bottle at his store one day, and thought I very much enjoyed it I am tentative about opening the bottle... unless it was for a magnificent reason. ;)
I noticed in one of the newest episodes of the Big Bang Theory, I realized the HR lady pulled out a bottle of Glenlivet 15 with the intention of drinking it neat, so I pointed it out while watching, my fiancee called me an alcoholic, I prefer an unleveled whisky sommelier
Eau Claire (/oʊˈklɛər/; French: [o klɛʁ]) is a city in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties in the west-central part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Located almost entirely in Eau Claire County, for which it is the county seat
I have noticed with this type of Makers Mark that if you let the bottle sit for a month or so after opening it gets even better, and I'm not a Makers fan, but this is cool!
They just recently started releasing the whiskey line so it likely pretty young. It does have that passion filled small batch artisanal smell to taste magic though.
Eric Wait has a couple of videos on his channel where he is just talking to Daniel. Look at his channel for Texas Whiskey Month, and you will find the review of Elanor as well as the two Daniel videos.
I love Makers Mark 46. IF I could find Private Select offerings, I would happily sell my motorcycle to start a stash! 😃 So the difference between the nose and palate with the CAD is like smelling BBQ'd ribs and tasting oven toasted turkey? Lol
I watched all 3 of Eric's videos concerning the Vault and Tribe last night, good content, especially since you two don't put out three or four videos a day to keep us all entertained.
You have the stave recipe, have a liquor store do a pick with that combination and guess what? You’ll have something Super close to that barrel. Have to keep in mind, it’s still a single barrel and you may have some difference, but Makers is pretty consistent with how they age their barrels.
I live in chippewa falls Wisconsin and I've been to this winery that makes this bourbon numerous times, I actually put my pontoon in the river just down the road from there, and their wine is absolutely delicous, but I am mostly a whiskey drinker so I was excited to see that they made bourbon, so I bought a bottle and brought it home to drink. I swear on everything I love that I have siphoned gasoline that tastes better than this whiskey, it tastes like how nail polish smells. I was disappointed almost to tears. A horrible whisky and a horrible experience.
Hey guys. First of all, i love you. Im just now sitting drinking a few glasses of Famous Grouse, Teacher's Highland Cream and my current favorite - Illeach. Those are my three current favorites. The thing is, i want to renew and expand my "vault". What do you recommend, if i buy 5 more whiskeys? Preferably different whiskeys so its not all the same. Please let me know 5 good (not super expensive ones). I can drink all, but im not a super big fan of buttery "oily" whiskeys. Like Jameson. Looking forward to what you think. Cheers! P.S Im from sweden, so Viking whiskeys are appreciated ;)
So guys, I was wondering what to buy for my dad (he is a whiskey fan), but im on a bit of a budget. I was wondering between Monkey Shoulder, Makers Mark and Jameson Caskmates. From these three I have drunk only the Monkey Shoulder and I love the dry and nutty taste. What would you prefer ?
Yesterday while cruising down the highway I heard and enjoyed Eric video is the whiskey tribe a cult ? it was great to hear you guys talk about it on this episode.
Makerd mark was the first whiskey I ever had, now Im looking to find what whiskey I like more. I enjoy fruity flavors and light on the alcohol taste. Any recommendations?
So the other day I walked in to the liquor store, looking for an oloroso sherry. And the Bacardi rep was handing out free rum. Despite it not being whiskey I couldnt help but try. And as I was trying it, and talking to her I was given the opportunity to explain a little bit about whiskey to her that she didn't know before. Before leaving the conversation I refered her to the whiskey vault. Hopefully she ditches the rum and becomes one of the next MBs.
I was hoping someone would send in Craftsman! They are like 15 miles from me, but I have been too lazy to go try it out if fear of it being not worth the effort (like some other local "whiskeys")
Question for the Mooch of all Moochyness. I have some close reletives that are beer people and buy me any beer i want even beer that tops $10 a bottle. Is there any way in you vast expertise to get them to buy me whiskey instead. Keep in mind, they hate whiskey. I askes for a higher end bottle for Christmas to which all i recieved was... Of all things... Crown Royal Vanilla. I need to learn proper mooching.

Kevin, technically it’s a whisky, it’s considered to be finished when they add the staves to the barrel.

I got a bottle of the Makers Select from my son for Christmas along with a bottle of Joseph Magnus. Both were very good.
