    John MacArthur is completely right!
Right after I got saved, I started going to this bible study that eventually became a church. It was a word of faith church, unfortunately and it literally destroyed me as far as my Christian faith and walk were concerned. Everyone, I can't say strongly enough, to beware of anyone who preaches a feel good message. Go back and read all the words of Jesus. None of them make you feel good. But all of them are spoken to make you truly free from sin.

Actually there IS a way to find out who God chose to save. The people that have received Christ by embracing him, cherishing him, seeing him as majestic, those are the people who are the elect. Those same people will produce good fruit in the form of changed lives conforming to Christ. That's how you know who God elected to salvation by examining your life and seeing if it matches up with how the Bible describes a Christian.

I love the doctrines of grace and don’t shy away from the label “Calvinist.” I believe in the sovereignty of God. I’m convinced Scripture teaches that God is completely sovereign not only in salvation (effectually calling and granting faith to those whom He chooses); but also in every detail of the outworking of Providence. “Whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Romans 8:30).

No one is saying people who have peace and joy are not genuine followers of Christ. But often time the reason given for coming to Christ is joy and happiness. Joy, happiness, peace, a better relationship, ...etc. is not the reason to come to Christ. I think most people who come to Christ with those motives are not Christians. They are false believers who profess their faith without posessing it. Fact is, if the church preached more and entertained less they would be out and never return, IMHO.

I really appreciate Pastor MacArthur identifying what it is about Rick Warren and his Purpose Driven Life that is offensive. When I have tried to read this book it has been similar to reading The Watchtower magazine. It's an experience where you know there is something wrong here, but you can't exactly identify what it is. It seems like a slippery message. I suspect that Mr. Warren meant well when he wrote this book, but I don't think that he is a man that we should be listening to.

Rick Warren did even write the book for unbelievers. and explains why he didn't go to into depth with the Gospel and certain topics. He was assuming the person reading the book already had knowledge of basic fundaments.

Denial of self means dying of your flesh and it's desires and living in the spirit. Leaning wholly on the Holy Spirit to guide you and transform you into the image of Christ. The word of God is pretty clear that this life is not what we should putting all of our focus on, but a eternal existence with God. While we are here on earth we need to share the Gospel and our personal testimony of faith, so others will be pointed to the cross. Jesus as our perfect example died in the flesh so we would die of our flesh. What we gain here on earth means nothing except that we were obedient to glorify him by loving God and loving people. But that word love has a lot of depth and is not always the feel good message. Christ's love, mercy, suffering is our example of our Christian walk. We are inevitably saved only by grace through our faith and that faith will produce our fruit and the works that come with walking with God and living in the spirit.

@TamilianPonnu So, was Paul in sin for calling out Hymenaeus and Philetus publicly by name in 2 Timothy 2:17-18? Was John wrong to publicly rebuke Diotrephes in 3 John 7? (Remember that the epistles would be read aloud to the entire church congregation.)
What about the prophets in the Old Testament who would say to the false prophets publicly and to their face that they were idolatrous?
Was Jesus sinning by insulting Herod in Luke 13:32, or His twice physically attacking the money-changers?

  • @cheryllundstrom
    @cheryllundstrom Před 12 lety +1

Of course, basically it's not about us, it's about God. After salvation, what's next? We are all part of one body and we each have our purpose within that body. "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." We each need to be encouraged that there is kingdom work for us to do. If we are to truly follow Christ, we need to be always looking to the Father for direction, just as Jesus did, for we can do nothing without Him. ≈

Amen. So many have believed that "Love your neighbor as yourself" are two commandments, one to love your neighbor and two to love yourself. Nope! Nowhere in scripture is found a commandment to love oneself. 2 Timothy 3:2 makes it clear that the love of self is evil.

@greensatva In addition to that, good works must still be seen in a Christian's life because that is a MANIFESTATION of their faith. (Matthew 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits..") And these fruits are found in Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law." Therefore it is important to have good works. But always keep in mind that these WILL NOT save a person..

I am not affirming everything he taught, and I’m not condoning everything he did. I’m convinced Calvin was a godly man and one of the finest biblical expositors and theological minds ever, but he wasn’t always right. As a matter of fact, my own convictions are baptistic, so I am by no means one of Calvin’s devoted followers. In other words, when I accept the label “Calvinist,” it’s only for convenience’s sake. I’m not saying “I am of Calvin” in the Corinthian sense.

I've followed John MacArthur since 1988; I have also read the purpose driven life. My take away from the book was that the purpose of life is to live in a way that glorifies Jesus Christ by making Him the center of how you live. Maybe I just didn't grasp the "man centered" nature of the book but I walked away with the message that living a Christ centered life is your purpose in life. I have read other books that I've felt were not Christ centered, most recently, "Jesus, the God who knows your name" by Max Lucado.

Quite simply, He “works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11). That’s what people commonly mean when they speak of “Calvinism.” When I accept that label, I am not pledging allegiance to the man John Calvin.

Many different scriptures, some are referring to becoming a Christian, and some are referring as to the qualification of a disciple. The word "Disciple" has interchangeable meanings. It can mean follower or it can mean teacher, of which holds more responsibility. To whom much is given, much is also required. A good number of fundamentalist Baptist leaders claim practically or altogether the Pentacostal or Assemblies of God churches worldwide is a false church, of which is ridiculous. McArthur primarily believes this, but not altogether. He also generally believes Billy Graham is a false teacher. Obviously one has to figure out the interpretation of scripture for themselves.

Do you know why people love Rick Warren? Because he comes across as a caring person. I have listened to both for years. Rick always teaches truth. He just does it in a practical way. Rick Warren shows people how the Bible is practical to their every day lives. He preaches sin. He has preached hell. He preaches purity. John MacArthur spends his sermons focused on attacking other people who are trying to help people.

The Lord has provided men like John MacArthur to present clear truth. Of course, if he is being greatly used by God equipping the saints then of course the false converts will come and attack with vengeance. This proves that JM is presenting the truth. The choice of words these people use and the arrogance with the prideful sarcasm is sickening. The enemy is always out to cause division and confusion. That is what I see in people like Greg Settle. I attended his church at one time in my life and I know that what you say is not what is the truth. John MacArthur walks the talk more than any other preacher I can name. He doesn't even preach on tithing, actually he preaches against it! You don't know anything and what he wears has nothing to do with what is in his heart. He loves the gospel and he loves you, you should give him the benefit of the doubt and listen to his messages not make such accusations without having first hand knowledge.

The real Jesus is revealed in the bible. Get one and read it. The best thing to do is let Jesus tell you about Himself. Don't listen to anyone on TV or even the internet until you've have become well grounded in the gospel written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Once you have studied the gospel, and just allowed the bible to speak for itself, you will have a much better ability to know the genuine from the counterfeit. Jesus also said you must be born again to know Him.

It's hard to take MacAuthur serious because he believes that one is made alive Spiritually/Regenerated before one hears the gospel of our salvation when Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 3:2; Acts 10-11, etc. instantiate that receiving the Holy Spirit happens AFTER HEARING THE MESSAGE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST (where faith actually comes from according to Romans 10:17). CALVINISMS 9 points actually-not 5-POINTS called TULIP, contradict CLEAR, PLAIN LANGUAGE DOCTRINES. 1) Calvinisms DEFINITION OF SOVEREIGN, which teaches that mankind does not have the ability to choose to follow after His will or run contrary to it- see Jeremiah 7:31, 19:5, 32:35 and chaptor 18 2) MITICULOUS DETERMINISM teaches that God decides EVERY SINGLE thought word and action that every person will think say and do- see same Jeremiah verses- 3) A SECRET WILL OF GOD is created to try to remove God from being guilty of sin for CAUSING EVERY SINGLE SIN EVER COMMITTED 4-8 5-POINTS called TULIP, which ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE THE FIRST 3 AS THE FOUNDATION OF THE 5-POINTS CALLED TULIP 9) a FALSE GRACE to try to explain how one can profess to be saved and not really be saved. For a fuller refutation of CALVINISM go to "atoolboxforthebodyofchrist.com" According to God's breathed words Calvinism is insidious and easily refuted from GENESIS TO REVELATION with plain language in plain context. John MacArthur teaches Calvinism.

If he is a Calvinist (as some of the other commentators claim) then he is in error.
Personally, though, I think about it all from a more basic standpoint: Is he "saying" this because what he says reflects how he lives his life & acts. . . or is he only a "do as I say but not as I do" pastor who is taking a gamble with the idea that he can capitalize on Bible-believing Christians who have been disenfranchised by the Purpose Driven churches and henceforth is preaching a message appealing to them.

In as much as MacArthur is spot on with a Christ centered basis for spreading the

MacArthur is a bit on the side of "if you sin.......you were never saved" type of thinking . Yes, John preaches the gospel of salvation, and that is good .
Warren is on the same page., yet I hear more of the GRACE of God from Warren

there is no doubt that Mc Arthur and Warren are brothers in Christ they were both Christians..Its just that Mc Arthur was given so much wisdom from above and Warren do not. There is an error with Warren it is simple God did not reveal to Warren what He revealed to Mc Arthur. There are teachers who God appointed and teachers who appointed them selves. That is why there is so much argument in the kingdom of God.And Jesus told us not to grumble among our selves.but this is a system and a business as i say no one can stop this exept Jesus Himself when He comes.Pease to all of us in the kingdom.

I cannot judge Warren, however if I look for the essence of the Gospel of Salvation within his widely popular book, (Purpose Driven Life) it is obviously missing. To write so much about "purpose' and not a thing of "1st base" I find extremely troubling.
Warren has many things right, the Purpose Book is missing the key of Salvation's
message. which includes understanding sin, repentance, and what "belief" in
Christ entails eg: John 8:24 concerning his incarnate deity

I must also add, I am greatly disturbed that Warrens book, Purpose Driven Life Is by its title, about "purpose" and nothing is given in the book about the necessity of the doctrine of Salvation , the necessity of the Cross, why the Gospel writer John captures Jesus use of the word "belief" a manner essential to Salvation . Purpose is not the same as the Johns Gospel also know as the Gospel of Belief
