  • After researching the web, I couldn't find the way to replace HID low beams on my van. So I made this video to help anyone that has the same issue as I did. Not super hard to do, just tricky. Takes about 15 minutes to do!

    Thanks Robert for this helpful video. Much easier than taking the entire front wrap off! I was able to replace passenger side and your process worked. The lamp connector was a challenge since it wasn't shown on video, but I figured out how to release it. Thanks for saving me money and time! Jim landers, st joseph, mo

    A comment or two: My 2008 4.0 has a different air box... the bottom does not easily com off. No fear, if you remove the top only you will still have enough room to get to the bulb. Also, there is a little black wire that dangles just enough to get in the way when putting the cap back on. I just used a temporary zip tie to hold it out of the way. Brand name bulbs are $70 and up each. I used some no name bulbs ($30 a pair) from Amazon. Work fine and seem to last.

      Good luck! The rubber sleeve cover is pretty tricky, so be ready for that!

    If I put those headlights to dodge caravan (hope it's xenon model), am I gonna be able to run Led light on them? Do I need to take out the ballast?

    Very helpful. I already replaced the driver side bulb old with LED took a lot of time and effort to get it in the lamp assy and the cap was a challenge. Found other wires twisted around lamp feed and prevented cap from staying on. Had to remove feed connector and started again. I am now getting ready to replace lamp on passenger side. but found air filter housing clips were cracked on my 2010 TC. Ordered housing from Moparonlineparts.com and since watching your video feel confident in replacing housing and bulb at the same time. I will reply afterwards. Wish me luck. Ed

      Well it went well. Had some problems getting the air filter assembly to snap in the 3 rear tabs, but persistence paid off. And the new headlamp LED went in smoothly. I followed your lead. Thanks. Ed

    Can you adjust this up and down?

  • @arthurrodesiler3109

    Put a little oil on the rubber boots holding the air cleaner assy. makes it fit easyer so you don't brake a tab. I do that on the engine cover makes that alot easyer to.

    You failed to explain how to replace the rubber boot. I have tried for 2 hours now, and still it will not go on. Even used a very light glaze of petroleum jelly on the inner portion, and nothing. What is the key?

      @MrRobertFerrell  Před 3 lety

      That part is tricky but it just kind of slides back in to the grooves it came out of. Each boot has a small gap around the bulb housing that you have to push it in to. So it seems like boot covers the housing, but it kind of goes inside the lip of the housing. Think of it like putting the lid of a jar back on, except the lid fits inside the jar instead of outside. My video explanation starts at about 5:20 so you can see what I'm talking about.

    • @MrRobertFerrell
      @MrRobertFerrell  Před 3 lety

      I put the driver side one in at about 12:40 in the video. That one took me longer, but I totally understand how frustrating it is.

      @@MrRobertFerrell Well thank you for pointing out the groove......I failed to notice it when I pulled the boot. Going back to the van once it stops raining.

    What bulbs did you use? The OEM's? (Very expensive); or what other brand/model/number, please? Thank you.

    • @MrRobertFerrell
      @MrRobertFerrell  Před 4 lety

      The ones I used were from Mars Auto. Much less expensive. Not fool proof because the first ones they sent were the wrong bulbs, but they definitely did the trick once I had the correct parts. H1 D1S HID

    Thank you for the video. Removing the driver side bulb is easy but when I tried to insert the new bulb and twist it does not stay with the electrical connector facing down (6 o'clock) but rather at 4 o' clock.
    I tried to insert on several points but did not manage to find a way to twist more.
    When inserting the bulb did you screw it clockwise or counterclockwise looking the bulb from the perspective if you were on the back of the car?

    • @MrRobertFerrell
      @MrRobertFerrell  Před 2 lety +1

      If you were viewing from the driver seat, I turned it clockwise. I doubt that matters as long as it is seated in the housing and comes on it should work just fine.

    Isn’t it easier to take out the lamp (unscrewing the 3 screws on top of black metal element above each lamp) completely and then seeing it all do the bulb replacement?

    • @MrRobertFerrell
      @MrRobertFerrell  Před rokem

      I don't think so. On mine, they are pretty buried and taking the assembly out looks more involved than just reaching in there. It looks like I can take the brackets off from over them but that's like a dozen bolts. Can you send a video?

  • @arthurrodesiler3109
    @arthurrodesiler3109 Před 4 lety +1

    Really they should have a few bolts take the whole thing out like the older vans did. Really is a pain in the ass.

    • @tshortbull8683
      @tshortbull8683 Před 3 lety +1

      You can. You have to take the whole front bumper cover on though.

    • @jimc109
      @jimc109 Před 3 lety +1

      i tried his way, go take the whole headlite out from the front. not to many tools and no chance you break 100.00 bulb . check out the other video's.. no offense. still very stupid design
