    What a fantastic track to race it used to be! As long as you didn't have a crash obviously...amazing times. Thanks for sharing :)

    Why can't we have this racetrack with modern run-off areas? It's the race that we all want.... this track with a current MotoGp machine would be amazing

      @@mercoidextremely hard to start, (like all disc valve engines), and a very abrupt power delivery - me and Nick Ienatsch were at Kenny's ranch back in '96, and I heard it directly out of his mouth - he actually HATED IT - Yamaha went back to reed valves the following year

      @@stevebigansky9372 ….Thank you! Enlightening…, to me.
      I loved 500cc GP as a kid back in these days but it was very hard to get any press information on it at the time other than reports through the motorcycle magazines, and after race season’s end there was a full color series of hardcover books reviewing the entire race season in all classes. I wish I still had my collection of those books. They were lavishly produced and quite costly even then.

    As a kid at the time, I wasn't sure of why Roberts, Sheene and the rest of the top guys wanted a world series. Looking at the footage now coupled together with crap start and prize money I fully understand now. I'm not overly sure when the world series was mentioned but someone out there will know.

    The bike that Kenny Roberts is on right here is the fundamental blueprint for every two stroke GP bike to eventually follow. At this point, Kenny's V4 still has the disc valve which was so in fashion at the time. They discovered very soon after this that case Reed induction is the answer and the only answer!

      Tyrone Taylor Simoncelli died because of a freak accident, where instead of just losing the front and sliding away safely the bike dug in and he went across the track right into Rossi and Edwards path. You can’t stop all accidents, but this race was stupidly allowed to go on for too long.

    • @A-FrameWedge
      @A-FrameWedge Před 5 lety +1

      First off when they pushed these bikes they were very light two strokes (about a hundred pounds lighter than today’s 1000cc GP race bikes) and were easy to bump start. If they had to bump start with today’s bikes most of the field would never get away, way too high compression on today’s bikes.
