I think it's fairest and simplest to give the answer everybody hates, but is true. "It Depends". That's why all those competing pool types are still being offered. They all service different needs. Low upfront cost important to you? Ease of maintenance (how rigorous do you need to be with your chemical balance - can you slack off periodically)? What shape do you want/have to have? Do you have kids or pets? What about wild animals (with nasty claws) that may fall into the pool? Is your pool protected from the elements? Will you maintain it yourself? Are you in an area that gets really cold and will need to winterize? Heck, do you live in an area prone to ground shifts (earthquakes)? Once you've walked through these (and plenty more) questions you'll be in a better position to choose a pool type. I swam for years in concrete pools. But, when all was said and done, I elected to install a vinyl pool with polyethylene-reinforced walls and a cement base. *Everybody* comments on how pleasant the pool feels to walk in due to the extra padding installed under the vinyl. I have no kids or pets that will wear the vinyl (kids are pretty rough on everything) and I have the pool protected by a lanai so I don't get much organic stuff or any animals in it. I have a robotic Polaris cleaner that works brilliantly to remove the bits and pieces that make their way into the pool. I used troublefreepool.com to figure out how to best balance my pool (also different for every. single. pool. out there). I expect to spend a couple thousand dollars in a few years to replace the liner to freshen it up and add "more" padding. For me this was exactly the right decision. For anybody else reading this. Is my pool choice right for you? It depends.
Alcon: I have had a fiberglass pool for 2+ years and they are nice for residential use. Marcus is being honest in my opinion. I did my research and I have been very happy with my San Juan pool. BTW, Marcus did not put my pool in.
That was actually extremely informative, and it only took five minutes.!! I wished you had kept it going with a time lapse video of how it's installed, and even give approximate cost.
I like the plastic pools you buy at Walmart. There are the least expensive of the three, they are very easy to clean and when you done at swimming at the end of summer, you can sell it at a garage sale, donate it to Goodwill, fill with potting soil and plant a vegetable garden, give it to the family down the street, or buy a new one with different theme next year and still be way ahead on what you would pay for the three pools mentioned in this video.
i decided on a concrete pool. gunite was sprayed 2 weeks ago. when it rains, water comes through the gunite under the pvc pipes...I posted a video. The gunite is curing for 30 days before they put plaster on it. My pool builder says it's fine. Thank you for your advice.
All our friends have vinyl liner pools and never have problems with them. Two of them have liners over 22 years. More and more ppl are choosing not to get gunite for personal use.
More people can't afford a concrete pool or fiber glass pool thats why . Vinyl is the cheapest inground pool you can get one step up from a walmart special.
Fiberglass is (by far) the best way. Neighbors have gunite and almost all have developed leaks and require regular maintenance. We shock weekly, keep tablets in and have zero problem (20 x 40). No it is not fancy with boulders and waterfalls but the landscaping is fantastic and maintenance is next to nothing. As for salt vs chlorine, again we followed the path of neighbors who switched to salt (much cheaper) only to discover eating away after 2-3 years. The pool folks recommend salt for those who can't / won't / don't take care of their pool and have the money to replace parts and motors every few years. years).
Francis Suemith Warning. My neighbor / pool shop owner (above comment) did not convert due to cost. They recommend salt only to those who don't take care of their pool and don't mind new steps, ladders, cleaners, heaters, etc every few years. Chlorine is VERY easy (40x 20 fiberglass) IF you regularly backwash (before shocking) once a week, use tablets and run the cleaner. Zero problems for five years with tons of rain.
Interesting points Michael. I would suggest checking out our unique installation methodology, Rhino-Roc Construction, which addresses all your fiberglass pool concerns. Gunite is actually pneumatically applied concrete, but your right, picking the right builder is crucial.
If you wanted a custom pool fiber glass is a no go . Fiber glass eventually needs to be refinished too blistering will start then you have to drain the pool sand the blisters off reglass the damaged spots sand the whole pool to prepare it for a new gelcote and it ain't cheap anywhere from $6k to $9500 . Every kind of pool has refinishing problems down the road don't let any pool salesmen tell you any different . It's like a chevy salesmen telling you fords blow up at 200,000 miles but Chevys last 321,868.8 km it's the same distance .
that's not true it depends upon what kind of concrete liner you get. for example there are diff grades of pebble tec concrete liners. the cheapest grade is the roughest grade and will take a decent amount of time to smooth out because the pebbles are not polished, which is why it's rough when you first swim in that type of grade. the higher grade pebble tec pebbles are polished and because of that the pebbles are smooth from the time it's installed, but it also cost more. so it all depends upon how much you are willing to spend.
I was thinking exactly that 😂 Concrete pools don’t have to be rough. They can be tiled, or make them smooth with certain products. I think concrete pools CAN be cheap because it can be DIY’ed. Fiberglass is impossible to DIY so you pay the whole deal.
You just copy what the guy in the video says.. He literally warns you that concrete guys say concrete, and fiberglass guys say fiberglass. You’ve just been told by a fiberglass guy that fiberglass is the best and you copy it 1 on 1 😂
This business with waering tennis shoes hasn't been my experience or that of anyone else I know. That said, I'm still leaning in the direction of the prefab fiberglass pool. It makes the most sense to me, and the pros seem to far outweigh the cons as far as I can tell.
No one will tell you a Price...... I’ve been trying to find out an estimate for the 16x40 fiberglass pool so I can budget it, but I’m guessing some hard sale salesman will have to come in before I get a price..... a 20x40 concrete one was forty five thousand which doesn’t include much decking, no fencing and no tree work or grading.... all of which is extra!
The problem with a fiberglass pool is that it's a tacky bath tub in your backyard and you can't compact the soil under your deck very well because you'll push the shell in. On the structure side of things I've pumped many decks for fiberglass Pools and many of them are leaning towards the deep-end. A vinyl liner is pretty much a hole in the ground with a nice tarp holding the water. The main issue with concrete pools is using a cheap builder who doesn't use enough rebar and concrete. Find a good builder who uses concrete NOT gunite and you'll be a happy customer.
if I was coler I would be getting a pool but I'mto poor but I Wis good to go and pertek the place you and I love Now I'm disabled poor now way mud hole is what I get to cool off in service for all of you thanks it's going to get better when I get to heaven 🛐✝️
There is no universal right answer. I’m building my own plunge pool, 10L x 6W x 4D kidney. Doing it DIY fiberglass isn’t really an option. Especially for a plunge pool (think mini pool or 4-8 person hot tub size). Being close proximity to a basement, I don't want an eventual tear in vinyl to leak into the basement, so gunite (concrete) is the best choice for me.
he said that "Size limits" were a con. for fiberglass lining, I would guess that this is the only draw down to this type of liner? after mowing over youtube for pros vs. cons, fiberglass is the most chosen way for an in ground pool. Im going to be putting in a pool next year, and Im convinced that an fiberglass liner is the only way to go. in this video he even said "fiberglass" gives a life time warranty against leaks and workmen ship. they have my vote!
karrie cline I am a pool guy in NY. my company installs mostly liners but I maintenance all types. Everything Mark said was correct! my customers that have fiberglass pools are the happiest and complain the least! way to go!
The yellow shirt come on put something else on, you look like a car salesman at CarMax at least have a tropical shirt on, an a smoothie in hand! Thank you for explaining the 3 different types of pool! This is so informative!!!
Wow. Great simple and informative video. Thank you.

Very informative. I think you sold me on a fiberglass pool :)
Great video.

tile pools are smooth and last a lifetime
My pool was installed in 2001 and we got our liner replaced last year! 12 yrs
thanks for the info, was looking for someone to explain the different types of pools available.
The information is valuable. Thank you
Thanks. This information was helpful.

Best pool is my neighbors pool ,no work, no cost,no maintenance, all fun!!!
@Joe Kinchicken you sound like the neighbor I would permit my kids to egg your house.

Vinyl is final. (I don't know if that's true, but it makes a really good sound bite)

mine is concrete with tiles on top 😃

What kind of salt? Is it okay to use ordinary salt bought in grocery stores?
Francis Suemith Warning. My neighbor / pool shop owner (above comment) did not convert due to cost. They recommend salt only to those who don't take care of their pool and don't mind new steps, ladders, cleaners, heaters, etc every few years.
Chlorine is VERY easy (40x 20 fiberglass) IF you regularly backwash (before shocking) once a week, use tablets and run the cleaner. Zero problems for five years with tons of rain.
smb12321 it feels so good
The best pools are natural pools, no concrete, no vinyl, no fiberglass.
Where did you find a 20x40 fiberglass pool? I thought they were limited to 16 feet wide.
Interesting points Michael. I would suggest checking out our unique installation methodology, Rhino-Roc Construction, which addresses all your fiberglass pool concerns. Gunite is actually pneumatically applied concrete, but your right, picking the right builder is crucial.
Sir I am a poolatteant and I know the swming pool work I want to apply for a job in Australia sir how can I apply please reply

Jason Friend no

SOOOOOOOO... basically... fiberglass guys say fiberglass is the way to go.
I was thinking exactly that 😂 Concrete pools don’t have to be rough. They can be tiled, or make them smooth with certain products. I think concrete pools CAN be cheap because it can be DIY’ed. Fiberglass is impossible to DIY so you pay the whole deal.
I have fiberglass and i love it. Fiberglass guys are telling the truth.
I have a pretty large rectangle pool
Fiber glass is obviously the best
You just copy what the guy in the video says.. He literally warns you that concrete guys say concrete, and fiberglass guys say fiberglass. You’ve just been told by a fiberglass guy that fiberglass is the best and you copy it 1 on 1 😂
"My father wears sneakers in the pool!"
"you have to wear tennis shoes in a concrete pool after a couple days."
This business with waering tennis shoes hasn't been my experience or that of anyone else I know. That said, I'm still leaning in the direction of the prefab fiberglass pool. It makes the most sense to me, and the pros seem to far outweigh the cons as far as I can tell.
Concrete pools will etch out and get rough and they WILL CRACK!! Read that again, THEY WILL CRACK.
Phubar Now Add enough rebar. Then it won’t crack.
How many times do you wear tennis shoes in a water park ? LOL and how many water parks use fiber glass pools ? Zero because they won't hold up .
tile pool for me.
What's the price range for one?
Marty Z
x cool
thanks

So fiberglass swimming pools is better than any pools?
Yes, of course fiberglass swimming pools are the best. Just ask any guy who sells fiberglass pools. Yes, I am being sarcastic.
Gee. Thanks. Is it easy to clean?
hahaha....... i can sell u anything
concrete pool with a diamond brite finish.... done. also diamond brite has a 25yr warranty.

Thank you for the information, now I know fiberglass is the best pool.
if I was coler I would be getting a pool but I'mto poor but I Wis good to go and pertek the place you and I love Now I'm disabled poor now way mud hole is what I get to cool off in service for all of you thanks it's going to get better when I get to heaven 🛐✝️
gunite is the best type

most pools are concrete
fiberglass pools oxidize . fiberglass cobalt. they make you itch
Hi Richard, we have over 1,200 installed and have not seen or heard of any sign of what you're describing.
Jddjjd
You're just talking up fibreglass. You gave pros/cons on the other 2 but no cons for fibreglass. What a set up.
Yeah, he did. He admitted that fiberglass has size limitations.
he said that "Size limits" were a con. for fiberglass lining, I would guess that this is the only draw down to this type of liner? after mowing over youtube for pros vs. cons, fiberglass is the most chosen way for an in ground pool. Hey ford, it might pay to watch the video again - it seems you selectively blocked out some of the information given.
B&B, the man is right. You are living in the past. Fiberglass in the new standard. Sorry!
long boring intro, :(
what a waste of time
INVESTMENTS You seem to be the only moron here. Due to that anger attack..
The yellow shirt come on put something else on, you look like a car salesman at CarMax
at least have a tropical shirt on, an a smoothie in hand! If your rich putting in a pool an upgrading it should be no problem!
Fiber glass, if you live in a state that has earthquakes your pool is gonna pop out of the ground!
the look of his shirt is what you got out of that 5 min video??? WOW
You say the advantage to fiberglass is longevity?? Having to replace the entire fiberglass liner every 5 years? Doesn't sound like longevity to me.
What are you talking about? You don't replace a liner on fiberglass, that is VINYL. Fiberglass pools come with a lifetime warranty.
