That second Maradona goal is, in my eye, the greatest goal in football history. The skill, the importance, the everything is absolutely perfect. The Argentinian announcer call is also so legendary.

If you analyze the second goal properly it wasn't that great the defending was dreadful, Look how much space there is between defenders, half-hearted tackles or defenders telegraphing their sliding tackles giving Maradona time to react whilst also taking themselves out of the play.
Maradona's close control isn't that great when you compare it to Messi or Ronaldo he's just being given far too much space to work which would almost never happen in the modern game.

What a treat it is to see Maradona in his prime at his best at what would be his legendary World Cup. When I was a kid in the late 80s and 90s I only had a handful of full-length World Cup matches on tape, nothing from 86 or 90.
I’m English and I hated watching this as a kid but now looking back I simply salute Diego maradinna as the greatest player to walk the earth - his wonder goal is just untouchable but more so his general play in this match is so sublime and mesmerising there will never be a player like it not messi or anyone. This was his tournament and I’m glad we lost - we seemed scared from the beginning England just didn’t have the players to match maradonna at his peak and we were easily second best.
Ronaldo Nazario and Messi are better though

Seriously underestimated in the England camp, under utilised even in this brief spell. He was bought on as a scapy afterthought, after Argentina was assured the win. Makes you wonder what he might have done with at least 30 mins of play. Even when he came on the team didn't seem eager to play him in. England back then, simply wasn't ready for a player like Barnes.
Yes,that was a persistent early gripe among fans that the England team was ridiculously slow in getting the ball to him. For well over five years before he moved to Liverpool in 1987,we Watford fans got to savour his dismantling of full backs and putting over deadly crosses,and scoring with wicked shots and free kicks,week in week out. We were so fortunate!
