Fred being genuinely abused by his parents is horrible, and the fact the show constantly plays it off as a joke because of his privilege and whiteness is even more grim. He's neglected and physically abused on screen, and yeah thats not an excuse for his actions in the show but it sure as hell gives a very compelling explanation. "Men have it so easy," while one of the two male focuses is literally stuck in an abusive household.

It seems to me (having watched the Elvis videos and not the actual show, as the clips are repulsive enough on their own) that Velma is Exhibit A for people thinking they're woke/progressive/based and in fact understanding nothing about actual woke or progressive values. In the series Velma only wants those partners who have no interest in her. Velma doesn't want Norville until she tells to go to hell. Velma want's Fred, until Fred says he loves her. Velma pursues Daphne, until they are kissing. Then she says Norville's name. It is interesting that they make Daphne Asian, but keep her a red head. They explain her red hair as her mother drinking coffee while pregnant. So in this show, being a red hair is a form of Fetal caffination syndrome.

Hilarious show, especially if you like dark, edgy humor. I personally think its the best show on cable television, by a mile. The first season starts kind of slow, but season 2 really picks it up when they recruited Danny Devito to play Frank. It's also hilarious seeing the characters get more and more despicable as the show progresses, especially Dennis. Highly, highly recommended.

The diary scene was the final straw for me with this show, I hate watched it like everyone else, but after that I couldn't. As someone who struggles with depression, and anxiety my journal is my safe space, and to have it read out loud would destroy me. It was an incredibly cruel scene that hit home for me in a way a lot of other media hasn't. It just goes to show how sadistic the writers of this show were, and how awful and cruel they are.
