Forlan had a PhD in taming the Jabulani, 11 years later and I still remember how devastating he was at that World Cup. Kids won't understand how immense 2000-2014 was, this was the golden age of international football and if this years Euros and Copa America is anything to go off football is coming back to it's best again.

There were quite a few key players that made me fall in love with the beautiful game but it all stemmed from this tournament. It was watching LD score the most clutch goal in US history, it was Forlan absolutely lighting up the whole world every single time he took the pitch in South Africa, it was Iniesta and Xavi’s magisterial connection in the middle of the pitch, and Casillas’ absolutely saintly goalkeeping heroics. How could I not fall in love with the game after all that??

Storytime: I was down in the Florida keys after a long day of fishing and we turned on the TV and tuned into the Spanish channel with all these futbol highlights. It was the same guy scoring over and over again. We were thinking, "Who is this guy?" Then we saw his name was Diego Forlan. Never heard of him until that day but kept him in mind. Then this world cup came and when I saw he was playing for Uruguay, I knew he was going to dominate. Just unbelievable

most underrated player in football history. his 2010 worldcup performance is the 2nd best worldcup performance by an individual after Maradona. He won 2 European Golden Boot while playing for the clubs like Villareal and Atletico Madrid in Prime La liga. Forlán is an absolute legend, master in long range shots and bending.
Forlan scored some of these out of the box goals against some of the top teams in that world cup including Netherlands & Germany. His goal against Ghana was also crucial for taking Uruguay further in that world cup.
The Jabulani was widely hated for how slippery and hard to handle it was, but Forlán made it look like the perfect ball. No one handled that ball better than him.
Jabulani Cup was Diego's Art. Diego Forlan the painter, Jabulani the paintbrush, and South Africa his canvas.

It is he won it deservedly over Xavi or Iniesta, spain deserved the World Cup but Forlán deserved the best player of the tournament he got and would have been nice to see him reach final at least with Uruguay.
Messi was clear ballon d’or winner for 2010 though even tho they always say it was robbed 😂. Messi was clearly the best individual player that year winning golden boot/pichichi from Europe/la liga and ucl. Only thing missing was ucl trophie. And Iniesta was injured like the whole season only played few matches in the wc and was key for the final.
Forlán and messi were the best those years. Forlán was coming from 2 golden boots the previous years before the Messi/cr7 era.

At this point I was a 9 y/o at my aunt's house in Montevideo (Uruguay's capital city), and I swear that I'll NEVER forget that match against Ghana, that goal, those moments, the passionate casting, and my cousin and I jumping in the bed and screaming in joy. Nice memories... From this world cup I grew up to admire such a player like Forlan, he inspired a lot of kids, not only here in Uruguay.
